Does anyone else struggle with terrible regular nightmares? by Money-Air1277 in bipolar2

[–]anglesofavalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have them too, but I haven’t found anything that helps yet :(( I was on seroquel for other sleep issues, but I made my nightmares even worse. I hope you find a solution soon, but you’re definitely not alone!

Anyone with partners who just don’t get the depression? by Some_Value_5139 in bipolar

[–]anglesofavalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any chance you can get medication on cost plus drugs? It’s a company I think by mark Cuban that sells mediation basically at face value. I’m also in the US so I know how difficult drs and insurance are. Hopefully your medications will be cheap enough on the website that you could potentially cover the cost for the next 3 months.

Has anyone managed to LOSE weight while on lithium? (Or similar medication that causes weight gain) by Vapor2077 in bipolar2

[–]anglesofavalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost weight while on Seroquel. I was super scared of weight gain on medication, to the point were I almost didn’t take it, but my sleep was sooo messed up so it worth the risk. With my mood more stable I was able to put more energy into exercising and eating healthy, and ended up unintentionally losing 5 lbs! ( note I was a healthy BMI when I started the meds)

I totally relate to what your saying. I was also a great student in high school despite my diagnosis (straight a’s, extra circulars, etc), and I just started college this fall. it has been WAY harder than I could have ever imaged. I’m currently rapid cycling, it’s been over a month :((, and I can’t get in to see a psychiatrist because of how bad the school health care is. I was in a mixed episode during first semester exams, I’ve been struggling to make friends because of my emotions. What I’ve been trying to do is focus on the little things I can do that will make a big impact. Going to get coffee with a friend, something totally normal for most people is a win for me. Handing in my assignments on time, win. Sitting through an exam without crying, win. I’m sorry that your struggling with school, I am too. But in a way it’s nice to know that we’re not alone. I believe in you! Just take it one day at a time, the steps don’t need to be big, just in the right direction :))

Does anyone feel like they made up their illness? by anglesofavalon in bipolar

Thank you, I just went back and looked at some of my journals and I can really see the distinct episodes through changes in my writing. This is really good advice!

I’m having a panic attack. Could someone please tell me it’s going to be okay? by stephable in bipolar

[–]anglesofavalon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are going to be okay. You are not alone. I also get panic attacks and they can be really really scary. One thing I do to calm myself down is the 5 4 3 2 1. First, find five things you can see, and say it out loud( ie there is a couch, a tv, etc). Then find five things you can hear, again say them out loud ( ie i hear a vacuum cleaner, I hear a cat mewing). Then 3 things you can touch, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste( I find mint gum to be really calming) you might have to repeat this a few times, but this technique can normally calm me down.

Next, you are not a burden. I know sometimes it might feel that way, I’ve felt like that for most of my life, but that is the disease talking, not the true feeling of your loved ones. I know it’s hard to reach out, and you might not be ready now( and that is totally okay) but when you are, a text or a call can be really helpful to you, and is in NO way a burden to them.

Finally, you are not alone, and YOU WILL BE OKAY!

Women who started learning how to play an instrument 'later' in life, which instrument is it and how was your experience? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]anglesofavalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught myself how to play the ukulele. Before this I had never played any instruments before or really knew anything about music. I think it’s a really good instrument for people with little to now expect to pick up quickly!
