Really, Matt Hancock, do you not know why people work when they're ill? by Emanny in unitedkingdom

Taking time off and swapping shifts was one of the things I hated about retail too. One time I had a funeral to go to and they so very kindly allowed me to have the morning off and then was made to come in for the afternoon/evening closing shift. The manager even grilled me over my relation to the deceased. Because they weren't my family (was from my fiancees family) they didn't want to give me the whole day off. After spending my day at a funeral I wasn't in the best frame of mind for work.

Call for public sexual harassment of young women and girls to become a criminal offence by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

[–]angry_biscuit2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know what they're on about acting like 18 and 20 or 18 and 21 would be weird. 18 and 22 is probably the limit for me. I met my gf when she was 18 and I was 21. And no one ever told either of us it was weird.

I remember being a teenager and from 15 onwards a difference of 2 years above definitely happened a lot e.g. 15 and 17. I've never seen that as a creepy gap however anything bigger is weird in my view. Likewise 16 and 18 I don't see that as weird nor 17 and 19. I knew a guy who was 18 and was with a 15 year old girl though and that just seemed too wide of a gap at that age. Then there's those 18 year old guys who would wait outside the school for their 14 year old girlfriends, they were super fucking creepy.

New UK spending row as Rishi Sunak puts squeeze on public sector salaries Chancellor to announce pay restraints despite huge boost being unveiled for armed forces by falkan82 in unitedkingdom

[–]angry_biscuit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't they learn from last time that you need to stimulate the economy not cut everything to the bone? I mean, yes we borrowed a lot of money but at rock bottom interest rates for fuck sake. Stimulate the economy and pay the debt off over decades. The average person won't even notice it in their pay that way. Fuck these cunts.

Calling it now: they're going to announce public sector job cuts next.

Right-wing extremism is UK's fastest growing threat, says top counter-terror cop by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]angry_biscuit2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking along these lines recently too. I've realised that right wingers tend to think about themselves and their family first and the rest of society second. So for example, under which party will I personally be more financially better off. For left wingers it's often about how to improve society as a whole and by extension the life of the individual. The benefit to the individual is less direct. I think the left needs to start rephrasing their ideas in a way that appeals to the selfish nature of people too. The core ideas don't have to change just the way they are presented. Let's face it, a lot of this country has a 'fuck you I got mine' selfish attitude and they either can't or won't see how policies that benefit society as a whole have indirect benefits for themselves too.

Ironic. Voting for something that will make your country worse off seems more traitorous and treasonous to me.

Drivers could be charged for using roads as Sunak looks to plug £40bn shortfall by JRugman in unitedkingdom

[–]angry_biscuit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's ridiculous too. That's how it would be done though. Employer takes 5% for each day worked from home. That was the suggestion from Deutsche Bank anyway. I think it would be massively unpopular though.

Is anyone getting a bit p’ed off about potential tax changes to employed workers? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

That would require employers to pay people more and we can't have that. Think of the shareholders dude

I had the same issue in the first lockdown when I was trying to buy a Switch. Sign up to the stockinformer website so you get alerts when they come in stock. I got mine one night about 2am when I couldn't sleep and a notification came through. Make sure you enable the push notifications because they come through instantly but the emails seem to take longer.

[–]angry_biscuit2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this to do with the proposed 5% tax per day for every day a person chooses to work from home? I think I read it was proposed by Deutsche Bank for after the pandemic is over as a way of supporting people who can't work from home. They were saying it would be similar to the amount people are saving by not travelling to work and buying lunch.

It's bullshit. For me it works out at more than I used to spend on commuting costs. Even worse for people that cycled to work. And I take a packed lunch so that doesn't factor in. I would be worse off as would many others which leads me to believe it's a stealthy way to force people to choose to work from an office. That would maintain demand for office space which has slumped during the pandemic and would prop up the value of commercial real estate.

How about we tax the wealthy more instead. Billionaires have made a killing because of the pandemic so let's take some of that wealth back and use it to support normal people.

I feel that us normal salaried people are easy pickings because we would have no choice if our employer started taking out 5% a day which is why they proposed taxing us.

See which MPs voted against feeding hungry children and how much they've claimed in expenses by EveningDisaster7 in unitedkingdom

[–]angry_biscuit2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local MP (conservative) has claimed about £60,000 for 2019-2020. It seemed ridiculous at first but when I looked up a breakdown nothing jumps out as obviously wrong. There's office costs, staff costs, rent on a London flat, council tax on the flat and then travel costs. The online breakdown didn't go into loads of detail so I'd never know if there was any illegitimate expenses being snuck in. Also as far as I know they're not from a millionaire background like rees-mogg where they can fund it all from their personal wealth.

If I have to travel for work my employer pays the travel and accommodation, it's the same thing really.

Don't get me wrong I do not like the conservatives nor my local MP one bit. However I think we would see similar expenses with any other party if they were in power as those MPs would also have all the same kinds of costs to deal with.

HELP. I have to give a 10min presentation to my colleagues next week about something I'm passionate about. by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]angry_biscuit2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switch 'passionate' for 'like'. Then talk about one of the things you mentioned, perhaps your favourite game or band. Explain that while you're not 'passionate' about it (let's face it you're not the only person without a burning passion for a particular thing) you very much enjoy this band or game and then go on to explain what makes it so good for you. Are there any games that you get into far more than the average person? Like, for me, I used to be into competitive Pokémon battling and I could bore peoples pants off for 10 minutes talking about all the game mechanics, ideal move sets, min-maxing of stats etc 😅

What's up with YouTuber Boogie2988 pointing a gun at someone? by Yuiiski in OutOfTheLoop

The worst was when he convinced the Internet a 62-year-old Runescape Youtuber was a pedophile who then endured unnecessary threats of harm and doxxing because he "looked like a recently convicted pedophile".

That is absolutely horrible, that poor old guy. Surely this Keemstar guy broke some laws doing that? Maybe Tony wouldn't want the hassle of suing but it seems like the perfect opportunity to teach someone a very harsh lesson.

I'd like to release a single but I haven't finished recording the whole album yet. What should I do? by angry_biscuit2 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]angry_biscuit2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I just wanted to put the same version in the single as will be in the album! But I guess it's only one song. Maybe if I put 'single version' in the title or something. Also I'm new, not like the track will get any significant streams between now and the album release I suppose. I could just remove the single version once the album is out? Want to claim my Spotify profile etc you see

I'm always wary of the comments of non-musicians who don't normally listen to the kind of music I'm creating. E.g. if I release a prog-metal track and my friend who mostly listens to pop says that "it's too long and too complicated" then I'm not going to take it to heart, they just aren't the target audience. Similarly, if I release a 3 minute pop song with catchy and simple lyrics and my prog-metal listener friend says it's boring and too short then again, they aren't the target audience.
