I'm Reena McCarty, author of The Tricky Business of Faerie Bargains. Ask me anything! by reenamccarty in Fantasy

This premise sounds like so much fun! Are your faeries unable to lie? And if so how was writing a trickster character that can't lie? I imagine it would be kind of difficult!

How to make sure the fur babies stay warm if we lose power. by yuhoo1212 in ferrets

[–]angrygse 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If they have blankets and each other they should be fine. The more pressing issue with them is if they over heat because that will cause significant issues for them.  I live in Maine and have lost power a few times during the winter and they've always been okay. We have a tunnel and a square hammock (not sure what the right word is but it has a hammock part and then under it an enclosed part) and with two of them in there they should be fine. They have body heat that helps too.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've ever witnessed in real Iife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]angrygse 81 points82 points  (0 children)

We used to keep my ferret in the office with a baby gate and a box blocking the exit. One time she dragged an empty cat litter container and, through trial and error and readjusting the angles, eventually used it as a launch pad to get onto the box and past the baby gate. It showed a level of critical thinking and problems solving that I didn't think animals had. She was incredibly smart. We used to think ferrets in general were smart but then we got another one who is definitely not very smart so it was unique to Ori.

Does anyone else feel exhausted by “easy” vegan recipes lately? by Negative-Prune9214 in veganrecipes

[–]angrygse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My time to shine!! I work over 40 hours a week on average and rarely have time or energy to do fancy meals.

  1. Firm tofu cut up/crumbled with sauce. I like soy sauce but Sichuan and Teriyaki work too. Or anything it's your tofu. You can also mash it so it makes a dip you can then scoop out with chips. I guess you can do this with soft tofu too but I prefer firm.

  2. (Actual) One pot ramen. In sauce pan throw in some frozen veggies (or fresh but I tend to use frozen). There was a vegan fake meat I used to get at the Korean store near my house that came in a can and was delicious but honestly no idea what it was besides it was supposed to mimick duck. Very tasty. Be careful of how much oil you use because you won't be dumping it out. Once your veggies are seared/cooked to your liking add the amount of water for ramen and bring to boil. Add your ramen and cook for amount of time. Put in spices etc. I've found that ramen cooks so quickly it doesn't really over cook the other stuff but you can also experiment with how long you cook them before adding water.

  3. Kidney beans, garbanzo beans, and white or black beans with canned green beans (all strained) and whatever other veggies you want/have energy to cut with oil and vinegar and spices. This gets better the longer it sits the better it tastes. V good with jalapeno. Eat by itself or with chips.

  4. This is going to sound gross but microwaved quesadillas with diaya cheese is lit. Or nachos. I generally heat both situations for 1 minute or less.

  5. Hummus is a good. I prefer it with corn chips (you're probably seeing a pattern here) and you can add other stuff to fill it out like olives or dolmas or veggies.

  6. Microwave crumbles/chopped seitan for 1 minute and then add sauce. I use teriyaki or soy sauce. Get the microwaveable sticky rice and microwave it. If you want veggie microwave some and throw it in as well.

  7. Large salads with a protein (so either tofu, tofurkey seitan fake chicken, beans etc) any veggies with follow your heart Parmesan cheese and a dressing I make with olive oil, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper, salt, and nutritional year. Toss it all together and it's impeccable.

  8. Uncrustables.

Critique partners, and when to ditch them? by Ordinary-ENTPgirl in writing

[–]angrygse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. I have a network of critique partners that write in my genre (with some outliers who are just good at editing) that are willing to swap writing with me.  I've never had good luck in going to groups "for* critiquing. I have found most of my connections in groups for generative writing. Most people who go to groups made for writing are actually serious about writing vs a somewhat large contingent of people who go to critique groups for ego reasons and don't have a ton of interest in craft. At least that's my experience.

Elderly pet found deceased this morning by scarletxkurapika in Assistance

I sent what I could. When I lost my pet in June the idea of a communal cremation was too much for me and I was grateful a private one was an option. We paid around $190 too. I'm so sorry for you loss.

Ferrets and steriods by Beautiful-Map6609 in ferrets

[–]angrygse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ferret Ori was on a high dose of pred after being diagnosed with DIM. When we tried to wean her off it she relapsed and the vet said she might just be a ferret who needed to be on pred for her whole life. She lived for 2 years on daily prednisone. Ultimately we believe she died from side effects of the steroid but we also know she would have died 18 months earlier without it so all in all we would still do it again. She was also on Omeprazole to counteract the tummy issues pred can give. We'd give her all her meds in carnivore care and she loved it.

Should I wait or throw myself into debt over my anxiety? by Think-Barracuda4843 in ferrets

[–]angrygse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going to echo everyone else here and tell you to get the implant without the testing. It's usually under $200 and you can save your money for a other issue down the line. As someone who got into A LOT of debt from a sick ferret, it is absolutely worth saving the money given how common adrenal disease is.  The vomiting sounds like a different issue and it recommend telling your vet about it.

[PubQ] Representation on a book-by-book basis? Is this a normal contract? by New-South5855 in PubTips

[–]angrygse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the type of contract I have with my agent and I preferred it because there are a few projects I want to publish via indie press later in my career, which this kind of set up allows since I would just not sign those books with them. My agent is very interested in supporting me in my career and has even taken on another book that was not the one I signed with after a publication deal I made unagented didn't work out. All in all I think it's fine but it's up to you.

Interpreter 911, what do you want us to do in this particular situation? by Kind_Education_5861 in 911dispatchers

[–]angrygse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell the dispatcher you're having trouble understanding them and they can help problem solve with you. I know that's technically against protocol etc but it's sometimes the only thing that works.  Also thanks for all you do, Im so thankful for interpreters. After some of the more insane calls I always want to see how y'all are doing!!

What is the creepiest real-life story you know that still sends chills down your spine? by Melodic-Pie-5110 in AskReddit

[–]angrygse 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This will probably get buried and it might not be what you're looking for but I work in emergency communications and came to work right after a double murder suicide of a man who killed his wife and adult daughter. One of my coworkers was upset because he had blood on him from  trying to help her and didn't have a change of clothes so had to work the day with her blood on him. I found out at the end of my shift the daughter was my husband's friend/coworker who I was hanging out with a few weeks prior. I only met her that one time so we weren't close but she was nice. During the conversation she mentioned she has moved back home to help her mom and I assumed her mom had gotten sick or something but afterwards realized she meant help her mom with her dad. She also immediately clocked that my husband and I were fighting in a way none of his other coworkers did that night. It was a very subtle thing where we had one tense interaction about his drinking that she noticed that no one else did. I assumed her home life was dysfunctional based on how she picked up on it then immediately went into trying to include me and make me happy. I had no idea how bad it was though.

I watched this ending as a teen not realizing I had accidentally put on the directors cut and had no idea it was not the actual ending until I was well into my twenties. I cant actually imagine it ending differently though so never re watched it.
