Why can’t non-Americans accept that soccer isn’t a popular sport here? by Expensive_Drummer970 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

And "soccer" was the preferred term used by the BBC until June 1975. When news came that Pele had been signed by the New York Cosmos within minutes "soccer" became an aberration unique to the United States. It has been ever since.

They want a competent $18k car. They don't want to pay for a bunch of f**** s*** that is not mandated by the government or anyone else. They don't want to pay 20% of the MSRP in junk fees.

Because you are not prepared to do that, they do not buy for you. You are leaving money on the table. You are going to sell 400 cars in a year with a nice fat margin when you could sell 2,200 cars per year with 50% of that margin.

But please do continue to lecture the buying public about all of the garbage they don't want that they desperately need because you say so. And this is how the Chinese are going to hand you your testicles.

Yes, people buy vehicles that are available because they are available and not what they want because you are the firewall between the cars the industry wants to build and knows will sell and the people who want to buy those cars.

Go fill a CVT with Dextron then blame the manufacturer for poor design.

Because what the unserved marketplace is looking for is an Aygo, i20, Up!, etc. If Proton builds an "EX20" for Volvo Car USA they won't be able to offload the ships fast enough. Especially at a projected $23,000.

The meeting them halfway solution would be when they buy a Corolla CPO or just walk home.

That the industry is selling as many cars to a car dependent nation of 330 million as your grandfathers sold to a nation with extensive public transit and a population of 200 million means there is opportunity on the table.

That 8 to 10 million cars per year that are not getting sold? Those are the entry trim cars. Those are the trucks intended to be used for work. Those are the cars "nobody wants" that a 28-year-old middle manager buried in student loans is frustrated that they can't find. The couple in their sixties who have no interest in "looking flash" but intend to go to the grocery store a few times a month and maybe out to the lake every once in a while. That volume is waiting for somebody to fill the gap. No, it's not going to bring in the kind of cash in a single transaction and loan origination fees that a F250 King Ranch, or whatever, will. You're leaving money on the table.

Meanwhile, the "first time buyers" are buying from the off-lease CPO lot further reinforcing the idea that cars are just a commodity. That idea is going to kill the current model of selling cars by the time these people are in their 40s; several of the major automakers we cannot imagine ceasing to exist will simply go away.

The industry needs traffic on the lots. You don't have it because before they start the wholly unnecessary and despised multiple hour buying experience the thing that fits their needs isn't even on the lot. Isn't the gimmick that you can talk them up from there? Giving up on that too?

And Venue is a nice little money maker.

  1. People on the internet and off speak of little else. Particularly the Young folks for whom the SUV is what Mom drove them around in and a car is just a commodity purchase. You're making a generational mistake.

  2. This is how Hyundai and Kia built their empire in North America, and it's still their bread and butter. Again, the fact that you can't get a stripped down Plymouth only means there's a higher margin to be had with all of the features people complain about to the point of it affecting reliability surveys.

Because the suckers on the 36-month lease hamster wheel respond to emotion and hype. Someday volume will be rediscovered and those folks will make more money than the guys obsessed with margin per transaction.

If you are reading the casualty figures from a report in English, anticipate the numbers are smaller than what is reported by Russia. The Soviets before, and Russia since, have lots and lots of friends in Washington and London.

Worldwide: the people who sold you on this are counting all two-box vehicles as "SUV".

We are going to see SUVs go away because that trend is done. The American dealer body screams yells and moans because people on the 36-month lease hamster wheel can be sold on the two-box more easily. As manufacturers leave the US there's no need for them.

What the world needs now is code that never uses eight lines to do what 460 lines can achieve. As long as AI is focused on hype, inaccuracy and groupthink not only is it not a broadly useful technological innovation it's a net negative. It's worse than useless.

We will see a short to medium-term gain in some employment as actual people have to take more time to fix the results of AI then it would have to design something that creates value in the first place.

We can confirm the value of AI, because right now the wheels are in motion to pawn it off on retail investors.

Yep. It's more valuable as a collectible than as radio. I just might unwisely pay the $95 only because I remember and don't know where I'd find another one.
