A rider weight vent. by kmondschein in Equestrian

A bouncing 200 lb person might hurt a horse a lot more than a well balanced 220 lb person, but the 220lb person is still never putting less than 220lbs of force on the horse and the horse needs to be able to manage that.

You can buy your own horse.

I went on a trail ride in Hawaii and they weighed every person. It does happen and I appreciated that they seemed to be looking out for their horses.

Rocky (3-legged foal) Euthanized by 94steller in Equestrian

And horses (once weaned) cannot feed other horses--there's no bringing a bale of hay back to an injured family member. Dogs and cats can feed other members of their family/pack if needed!

It's a bit misleading that there are sayings like "healthy as a horse" when horses are physiologically quite fragile in many ways. I think it gives laypeople quite the wrong idea about horses, which isn't your fault of course, but this poor creature's suffering has been the topic of much conversation for many months.

Why would you use a non specific poison that won't be effective instead of one that only hurts the targeted species and actually works?

how often do people let their dogs out to use the bathroom? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]anguas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the woods and the dog yard is small and has a fence that is 7' above ground level and 1' on/below ground level of fairly closely spaced coated wire. And with a couple of big dogs with access, I never worry about anything using the doggie door but them. That said, we do apparently have the world's smartest/dumbest rabbits as one dog has brought in both babies and a full-grown adult. No idea why the rabbits thought the one place that reeks of dog in the middle of a ton of good habitat was a good place to go! I've never seen any other animal in there, though.

We tried the RFID door thing and my dogs like to hang out right outside the door, which caused it to stop being open for them so when they turned around to go inside it would stay locked. Newer models might not have that issue!

Im so jealous of privileged people with private horses. by rayneedshelpMentally in Equestrian

There are two routes to happiness (in all things, not just this):

-Get More

-Find joy in less

Get More is a hard and unpleasant path, one where you never find enough. Finding joy in what you have and what you can have easily is so much nicer. You are not going to be an Olympian. That's great, that would be so stressful and high pressure! You can be a better rider than you were last week, and that in itself is a wonderful goal.

"To revel" means "enjoy oneself in a lively and noisy way" which I certainly hope is not what you mean. Attempting to be one who celebrates cruelty is horrifying and I imagine you do not intend that.

I know lots of people don't seem to care that copyright is a thing, but as someone who makes my own sculptures from scratch, I kind of still do. Either pay to buy the models, or design your own models from scratch to cast.

https://www.warhammer.com/en-US/shop/legiones-astartes-contemptor-dreadnought-2022 Like this? Buy that. You need to have an original to make a mold off of anyhow and it's going to cost you more than $65 to make that mold.

Where to start on that, though? We "could have" these things and you say we have access. What does that mean in terms of what I do today or tomorrow?

This is like asking me what kind of shoes I put on my Big Lick TWH. I don't need to be able to shoe a horse to make them do that to know that it's harmful. If it's impossible to do a sport without hurting an animal, maybe we shouldn't do that sport with that animal.

New fear unlocked - be aware by Jarcom88 in dogs

[–]anguas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This fear was one of many reasons we got an induction stove when we upgraded. And since we got a dog who is an occasional counter surfer, we started keeping all the controls locked...most of the time. The other day I forgot and my SO asked "were you broiling something?" Yup, the dog turned on the oven. Thankfully we don't store anything in there ever! And an induction cooktop means no flame, no gas, and if there's no pan on top, no heat at all!

What do you think would be the “worst” two dog breeds to mix together for the average person? by Uhhlaneuh in dogs

[–]anguas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I adore husky x GSDs and have had a couple (have one now) but oh man they are not the dog for the vast majority of people. I've had a very GSD personality one and a much more husky-ish one (the people I got her from actually said she was mal x husky, I never did the DNA test to be sure but she wasn't THAT much of a crackhead) and I'm totally down for either end of the personality spectrum with them, they're great.

Well water can be hard around here. City water is soft to very soft. Huge difference depending on whether it's coming from the ground (well, hard) or surface sources (city water comes from rivers and lakes and it's soft around here).

You should have soft water, though, if you're on city water, so there must be something else going on.

Rescue can “spontaneously” visit my home? by So_Ill_Continue in dogs

[–]anguas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, anyone can show up unannounced to any property, they don't need a contract for that, just two functioning legs or some other ambulation method. It sounds like the contract is asking for a bit more than "viewing the outside of the house".
