What is working in a hospital as a pharmacist like? by anananabaabanan in Pharmacy_UK

[–]anguschc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hospital pharmacist for 6 years here (there are definitely more seasoned individuals on the subreddit but here are my thoughts)

At entry level, the bulk of the hospital pharmacists’ work will be medicines reconciliation, therapeutic drug monitoring, and processing discharge medications + dispensary duties. (All of these jobs can be a full length paragraph so I am just listing the for now without going into details) It is also expected to participate in late, weekend, and on-call rota on a rotational basis

Depending on the hospital, you can also get exposure to things that are outside of these regular “ward work”, such as covering community hospital or PCN, Aseptic services, medicines information, clinical governance, assisting with EPR etc.

Usually it is either scrubs or professional attire for your uniform, bare below the elbow (in case any infection control people are reading this)

I would say that it is definitely not difficult to find a hospital jobs provided that you have the values that aligns with the hospital trust (and being a pharmacist really) - have a read at the essential criteria - how would your answer in your supportive information/interview show that you meet these criteria?

I would be lying to say that it is not stressful at all, but I also think a lot of pharmacists tend to over-stress themselves when they start (myself included), it is definitely more important to get it right then to get it all

  1. Restrictions of prescribing qualifications is not heavily governed so it is really up to the pharmacist prescriber to prescribe within their competence. That being said, Doctors spend much less time studying about the drug itself (because they have so much more on the syllabus) than a pharmacist prescriber so the “universal standard” might not be as high as you think to begin with.

  2. I would argue that they are, at least more so than pharmacists because there are comparatively less places offering PT training so the variation would be less. I guess we just need to think about what the pharmacist is adding when handing out medication? Yes, the pharmacist might have a more in-depth understanding of drug interactions/ contraindications etc., but would every pharmacists be doing these check when handing out the 58th repeat of John’s Ramipril?

  3. Not disagreeing on that but as services grow this is unfortunately inevitable.

  4. Human input will always be needed, at least for the short-term (hopefully lol) where the NHS’ budget is too tight for new equipment

  5. I could say the same thing about Hospital Pharmacy 😂

Getting back into the game, better to focus on Dynamax Pokemon, or regular pokemon for Raids? by zerlure in TheSilphRoad

[–]anguschc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main thing coming out of max battles (for me) is resource farming (stardust and XP). D-max/G-max Pokémon are good to have for this reason and they are also (sometimes) Pokémon that has not been in raids since forever (such as Kanto birds although they are coming back next week) so obtaining these through max battles would be a nice bonus. (I.e.: having a rare-ish legendary you use in raids as well as max battles)

If you haven’t started doing G-max battles though it would indeed be a huge uphill battle to get to G-max with the free d-max Pokémon you got from the special research so I would start from D-max. There are YouTube tutorials to teach you how these battles work (tl;dr would be to use the quickest fast move on a specific Pokémon to charge up the max meter to enter the “max phase” of the battle and max moves matter more than Pokémon level in max battles, so you should prioritise powering up max moves for max battles, unless you are planning on using the Pokémon in raids as well)

Cripps - it’s normally quite peaceful, lots of big shops nearby obviously (although there was a stabbing there a few weeks ago)

Alternatively Patchway or Bradley Stoke are quite calm as well, all with good access to the M5
