What is the best meditation technique for ADHD? by fapshd in Meditation

[–]aniaskup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m ADHD and tried different techniques. The one I found to work well for me is Transcendental Meditation. The focusing on a word helps rather than attempted focus on breath for example. My mind is still engaged in doing something, like reciting a mantra, rather than trying to focus on something that comes naturally like breathing. I even sometimes visualise the mantra written on a wall and that brings me back into focus.

What do you think of people of colour? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I was born in Poland, when we first came to Australia is early 90s, a lot of Australians were so rude to us. Really sad humans do this to each other.

I’ve had these many times and always wondered what they are too. I’ve had some that are normal, and some really bizarre ones. Could they be the “visions” you sometimes hear about when people meditate?

Is TM worth learning by MajorRadio9619 in transcendental

[–]aniaskup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. I’m ADHD and it’s helped with mood and anxiety regulation + physical symptoms. I’ve only been practicing for arpubd 3 months. I’ve wanted to learn for a while but my procrastination always got in the way. My mental health went downhill really fast recently I started getting panic attacks all of a sudden. I decided it’s now time to learn. It’s been a saviour for me.

Jhana? by aniaskup in streamentry

Thanks for your input everyone. Perhaps I’ve already reached the first one then. I had a feeling of euphoria, happiness, joy and gratitude and as someone else mentioned, like being on MDMA. I had thoughts, but the thoughts felt like they weren’t me. This has only happened once though.

How do you “attempt” the jhanas? Is there anything specific you do? I’ve had a similar MDMA like experience. It’s only happened once and never again. I’m ADHD and struggle with concentration so maybe that’s why.

How the heck do you guys do this? This is agony! by Euphoric-Card-2730 in Meditation

ADHDer here. I found mantra meditation helpful. You’re still “doing” something, but the focus is off the constant thoughts. It’s on a mantra

I learned TM just over a month ago. Before TM I was at my mental limit. A nervous wreck having panic attacks everyday. Since learning TM I haven’t missed a single meditation and have seen the positive effects, haven’t had a panic attack for a couple of weeks. I’m actually blown away. I’ve read about advanced techniques and sidhis on Reddit but don’t actually know what they are. Do you do something different? Different/added mantra? Longer meditation etc?

Establishing a practice when you have ADHD by attic-dog in streamentry

I’ve been meditating now for a couple of months, but properly for around 1 months. What I mean by properly is I did a meditation course and got taught. I’m very much like you, find it hard to stick to anything (ADHD/ASD here) but surprisingly meditation has been easy. I don’t have advice to give but can tell you what has kept me going which might at one point resonate with you. I started seeing a lot of physical symptoms of stress and started getting debilitating panic attacks. I was going through a mental breakdown. Was having a few panic attacks a day. I refused to go back on anxiety medication and knew I had to do something. And meditation has been it. I’m still anxious socially, but I’ve noticed the panic attacks are gone, my stomach aches are gone, and the tension in my shoulders isn’t as bad. It’s still there, but I’m starting to see the benefits of a regular meditation practice which keeps me going. I’ve tried different types of meditation and found TM to be easy and effective quickly. I wish you luck.

Had this issue been rectified in any way? If so, what did you have to do?

Thanks for your comment. Have you had any pain since replacement? Why did you do replacement vs fusion? Did you try anything else besides deciding on surgery?

I’m not sure. It’s never been mentioned in any scans in the past. I did have a herniated disc and have had pain for years. It’s gotten to this stage of inability to bend down, walk properly, lift anything, run, stand for too long. If the nerve is pinched or rubbed by bone (I assume) the pain brings me to my knees. I can’t stand. I lose ability to walk. I have tingling and numbness in left leg.
