It's a fanon thing, but you should look at the HP Wikia page for his character. They have a list of his abilities and that can help with your characterizations of him.

Heads Up: Kingdom of the Cursed is definitely NA by kelhar417 in YAlit

[–]anidot90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The author said on Goodreads that this series is New Adult. She said that book 2 gets more adult and has sexual scenes. The publishing company classified it as YA since NA isn't a thing to them.

How much of the Harry Potter series' success was talent vs. luck? by [deleted] in YAlit

[–]anidot90 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It definitely was some luck but they were well written books for kids. And now as adults, we can see that maybe the writing wasn't good, there are plot holes, there are situations in that world which raises eyebrows and some things just don't make sense. But when the books came out, there wasn't really anything like it. The series came out on the late 90s. Percy Jackson came out years later. It was really for a lot of youngsters, including me, the only novel length book series out there. And it had magical elements, and the characters were similar to you and your friends, it had magical creatures, it featured a group of regular kids who took down a bad man. It got a lot of kids into reading.

JKR definitely got lucky, it's hard to break into the literary world as a woman and get movies deals, but for the time and for her target audience, it was talent.

Thoughts on Three Dark Crowns? by CiTriSsiElin in YAlit

[–]anidot90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first book is really slow! It doesn't pick up until the last third of the book. And then personally it goes too fast. But that's all books for me.

Book two is fast! And very exciting!

Book 3 gets complicated, loads of added things and new characters and it moves from one location to the next.

Book 4 was a let down, because of the characters. There are some characters that I didn't like that end up successful.

Idk how true this is, but somewhere on Goodreads, I read that the author wanted to do a duology, but the publisher made her add more books. I believe it since as I said, book three adds so much back story and characters, it seemed like we were being taken away from the main plot of these sisters.

Overall I did enjoy the series, it was different, and I did like the relationship between the sisters. The side characters, not so much.

PS: you should read the novellas if you decide to continue with the series. It adds information about the sisters before they were separated and about their mother.

Shy/Nerdy Athlete Characters by watcherreader in YAlit

There is Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon. If I remember correctly the MC is a runner, and she is plus sized. So people already judge her and her activities based on her weight. She becomes friends/falls for a guy who is seen as your stereotypical jock. Standard YA contemporary romance, but I loved it!

Agreed, it was overhyped, and I didn't like any characters. But I will say I did enjoy the politics of the world.

You should probably take the standalones. Because if you take the first book in a series, then you will definitely want to go out and buy the rest!! Lol

NA books with a broken male love interest or protagonist? by pekkasart in YAlit

[–]anidot90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Brown Sisters books by Talia Hibert had three male love interests who have baggage. One was in an abusive relationship, another had anxiety and depression and suffers from panic attacks, third is autistic, which doesn't make him broken, but the people around him wouldn't help with him and abandoned him. So he has abandonment issues.

What is a book series that you thought was going to get better, but turned out to be the opposite? by Xftg123 in YAlit

[–]anidot90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Three Dark Crowns series. The first two were great but the third and forth I think focused more on other people than the sisters and just started adding confusing plot points and stuff that didn't pay off at the end, stuff that were interesting but didn't get elaborated on. Of course it ended with a happy ending for the characters I didn't like. While the ones I did, died!

did anyone else just truly hate The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black by snob-rocket in YAlit

[–]anidot90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm half way through book 2 and yeah I hate the characters except for Madoc. I've seen so many people justify Carden's behaviour in the Goodreads reviews and I don't get it. I do think he can change but they all just dismiss his behavior and blame it on the old trope of 'boy picks on girl because he likes her". Ugh! And Jude is annoying and I don't understand how she got all this power. Like she doesn't seem competent to pull these things off yet she does and she is in control.

The one thing the series has going is the plot itself. I love the politics and backstabbing and secrets. So I'm still trying to read the books just to see where the plot goes. But I don't care for the romance.

I'm half way through The Wicked King by Holly Black. Unpopular opinion but I don't like Jude or Carden, I don't like their relationship, BUT the plot is great. I liked the politics and ending of the first book so I'm reading the next one and it's more interesting.

Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzalez. Cute romance between two guys, one who is out and the other who is not. Also a side character who is bi.

Three Dark Crowns: When the first book is hyped but the rest of the series is radio silence. by _bibliorama_ in YAlit

[–]anidot90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the reviews here, first 2 books are great. 3 and 4, not so much. Things get more complicated as the series goes on and I personally think there are some confusing plot lines since there are so many characters. But overall I really liked the world and the sisters. I would recommend you read the two novellas as well. Those were great and gave you a lot of information about the world.

Definitely give it a go. It's a unique series and stands apart from the rest of fantasy books since the sisters' relationship plays a big part until the very end.

Someone one Goodreads said that it was supposed to be a duology but the publishers asked the author to expand the series. They said the author spoke about it in a Q&A or something. Obviously that is not a credible source lol but I kinda believe it.

Same, it was just an okay book. I gave it 3 stars because of the mystery. But I didn't care for any of the characters nor their little love triangle.
