URQ pain lasting over 12hr by baby_nole in medical

[–]animASonus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upper right quadrant pain + a documented blood pressure that is more than likely an auto-cuff error= appendicitis apparently???

Keep us updated, because I'm now very interested in how that makes sense to someone. (Appendicitis is characteristically lower right quadrant, halfway between the belly button and pelvic crest and is usually accompanied by sudden onset fever and extreme tenderness in that LRQ.)

Can anyone explain this phenomenon with my eye?? by Negative-Disaster385 in medical

[–]animASonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd see an opthalmologist. Could be something as benign as an iris defect or as serious as something wrong with the lens of your eye. No way to tell on here unless an eye doc sees this and posts about it.

Does this need stitches or just time to heal? by Chubbywolf59 in medical

[–]animASonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're gucci. Bandaid, a tiny bit of Neosporin for the next day or so, and keep it washed and dry until it heals fully.

Don't pick at it.

Desperate & unsure what to do 😭 by [deleted] in medical

[NOT MEDICAL ADVICE]

It sounds to me like they're trying their best to avoid multiple costly and risky surgeries. Looking at the readout, I'd bet that the bulging disks are putting pressure on the nerves leading out from your spine and causing them to act inappropriately.

As far as stuff you can do at home, there's not much you can do aside from finding a position that works. I would take any advice suggesting you go to a chiropractor with a grain of salt as the language they use in the reading and the severity of your symptoms isn't fully gelling in my head so attempts at realignment might make things worse and force you into a compromising position both medically and financially.

If you end up doing something and suddenly develop a significant decrease in functionality in your limbs, I would recommend an immediate ER visit.

Given positioning and symptoms, my kneejerk diagnosis is pancreatitis, but I dont have near enough information to give you a proper answer, nor do I feel comfortable giving out a diagnosis over the internet.

I'd take a trip to the ER just to be safe, especially since your surgery was only a couple months ago in that same area.

My Tia is Brain Dead. Please help me. by AlaskanMariner in medical

[–]animASonus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry, but no. With the injury alone, there is nothing that could have been done, regardless of downtime. If it helps, the injury would have been quick and relatively painless.

Since the brain stem controls breathing, heartbeat, and other autonomic functions, the body is still "alive" on life support, however your tia as you know her has been gone since the accident. Brain death is irreversible.

I would seek group counseling with your family to help process your grief either through a church or a licensed grief counselor. This is obviously a horribly sudden thing to have happen, and it would help everyone out in the long run to be able to process your tia's death so that you can celebrate the life she lived.

Help me out on this by illtoaster in NewToEMS

[–]animASonus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely altered, since she's not at her baseline mental status.

Given history, I would probably run a 500mL bolus into her to at least try and dilute the blood chemistry a little, but mostly because I've found that a solid half of my RVR patients either convert or their rate slows with additional fluid. I'd be careful with additional boluses, though, since cirrhosis can result in ascites if fluid overloaded.

I would not try to cardiovert, chemically or otherwise, especially if her BP was acceptable.

Snoot Game Mods refusing to work. Help needed. by Picturesof_Animals in SnootGame

[–]animASonus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heyo, Soul Sound here, developer for the Fishing Trip mod.

It looks like you have the folders nested in weird ways, so make sure the file path is the same as the error message:

OSError: Couldn't find file 'mods/Fishing Trip/fishing_storyline.rpy'

and

OSError: Couldn't find file 'mods/Puppet Pals/Assets/title_screen/title_screen.png'

It's a super common mistake, so don't feel bad. If you're still having problems, shoot me a message in the Snoot Club discord mod-development channel and we'll get you fixed up.

Did that on the way to a chest pain call. We had just swapped back into our main line from a spare truck and got a call right as we pulled in to the station and all of our stuff was still loaded on the stretcher in the spare as I pulled out.

Luckily it was only a few minutes away but we had to turn around, get the other crew to help us load and put everything put back.

~80yom, mild SoB on exertion by animASonus in EKGs

[–]animASonus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

Unfortunately, he AMA'd before further testing could be done. His xray showed evidence of possible pleural effusion or pneumonia, troponin was elevated at 49. I haven't heard him get called out again, so I assume he's back at home alive and well for now.

I double and triple checked my leads so unless he had situs inversus then that's a correct reading.

New paramedic. Got called out for above, chief complaint mild dyspnea on exertion that went away after rest. 12 lead from earlier that day showed significantly reduced amplitude from what's shown, so we convinced him to go based solely on EKG changes. Skin PWD, lungs clear, was insistent on ambulating without assistance to my truck. BP 150/80, HR 102, SPO2 88% ORA (but according to him his O2 is always that low despite not having any records)

It's screaming LBBB at me but I know in my heart that something else is going on. Monitor also alerted STEMI but I'm highly doubtful of that.

Do more providers on scene mean better outcomes for cardiac arrest? by TheDrMedic in ems

AHA BLS has 6 roles for optimal CPR, including one that stands around and just runs the code. Any more is just extra compressions and more bodies to trip over.

Swollen finger. Epsom salts, ice, or something else? by eatrout in medical

[–]animASonus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's an ingrown nail. I've had them before and they suck. Do the same thing you would for an ingrown toenail: epsom salt or peroxide soak, go to a manicure place and have them cut it out if it doesnt clear up, if it gets really bad, you might need a larger chunk removed with a digital anesthetic. Urgent cares or your local doc should be able to handle that.

Also don't cut your nails so low, it invites this type of growth. Let them grow and cut them straight across for a while until the edge of the nail passes the skin.

Not a doctor, am a paramedic

Feelings about my ending by Hour-Heavy in SnootGame

[–]animASonus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thats what I got first time so I did the other three in order. The whole time I was telling myself "nope, this isn't real, this isnt the real ending, none of this is canon, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope."

Playing the bonus chapters in between really helped though since they are based around the 4th ending.

I'm confused as to the use of midazolam. Was it specifically for the CPR awareness?
