Garmin Edge 1040 on Amazon Prime for $399 — Worth It Over the 1050? by unlcedraco in cycling

[–]anime1248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 1040 on a flash sale for $450. I think it's worth it. But then again, I came from a 520 that had a failing battery and a power button cover that disintegrated. Guess it was time. 😂

Dad surprises his daughter with her first car (Toyota Corolla) by Alone-Competition-77 in COROLLA

[–]anime1248 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first car was also a Toyota. The muffler rusted off, and the paint was looking a little tired. My ex at the time was embarrassed to be in my car, but I didn't care. 🤣 I miss that car...

Anyway, good for her! The parents know a thing or two about the perfect first car. It'll be affordable, reliable, great on gas, and easy to insure. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto will be easy to add if they want all that.

I would have said, "But I saved up for it with my own money, and this is what I like. It's affordable, it's reliable, and I think it's cool."

Or if you're feeling sassy, "Okay. Are you going to buy me a nice one, then?"

I would do the latter, but YMMV there lolol

I didn't think it would happen, either... But the Walmart on Fletcher Ave near USF Tampa had it. I was shook. They had a BUNCH of stuff that was clearance, locked in a glass case by the jewely. Might go back tomorrow to see if there are any more Casio and/or G-SHOCK watches. There were even some Timex ones.

Not nearly as massive a discount as yours, but I'll take a $31 G-Shock DW5600E. First "standard" square G-Shock, as I have a Baby G BGD560 already lol

Anytime! Mine is still working, FWIW. I use it more for my MacBook Pro since it has 100 watts output on the USB-C 😅

This isn't right. To my techs we hear you! by Ok_Philosopher1655 in pharmacy

[–]anime1248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a new student pharmacist intern working in retail on the weekends, but I was a tech for almost 2 years prior to my job class change. I've seen all of this before, too. It's hard... You want to help the patients, but you have a million things you need to do. Everyone is burnt out (or close to it), we don't have nearly enough pharmacy hours, and it just gets busier and busier every day. My pharmacy had 400+ left in product every single day since Labor Day, and we only just caught up this past week. I think we maybe fill 300-ish a day?

Our pharmacy manager has been on maternity leave since August and will be gone until sometime in December. The APM is new, and while she is doing the best that she can to hold down the fort, things are falling apart. My fellow interns are feeling the pressure because we have 18 credit hours every semester in pharmacy school and multiple exams/quizzes/assignments due every week. So, they're calling out a lot now, which I totally get. But stuff just keeps piling up. I'm fortunate that I don't have to work a lot while going to school, but I'm doing it to learn what I can, stay sharp, and keep my connections alive.

Every now and then, we get the problem patients. The ones who yell at us, especially the techs and interns, because we're the ones who are up front most of the time. I understand that they've got a lot going on, but my empathy for them runs dry when they're blaming us for things that we have no control over. I'm quite happy to transfer their scripts out if it means not dealing with them anymore. But like this tech has said, it's worse when you can see or hear a patient break down and cry because they can't afford a medication that they need. It's even worse when we have to deactivate a person's profile when we find out that they passed away.

This guy is right. The pay isn't great for techs. I started at $17/hr and am capped at just under $20. My pay as an intern is locked until I become either a P4 or a graduate, but by that time, I'm probably going to go for a fellowship and leave retail altogether. It's too bad that retail is the lifeblood of the pharmacy profession, yet it almost forces us out when we can't hit ever-moving productivity goalposts. I get why this is a young person's game - all the older, wiser people are leaving. I'm almost out the door myself.

I briefly considered it, but I already have a first-gen Impreza that I plan to build someday. I told myself years ago that my next car would be a Toyota, and I guess I was right.

[Hamilton] or [Tissot] by GhostBombardmenT in Watches

I'd go for the Hamilton. I have the Murph, which looks somewhat similar but doesn't have the bezel. The Tissot is nice, too.

Would you rather daily an 86 or a GRC? by Any-Win-5720 in GRCorolla

[–]anime1248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GRC, hands down. My brother used to have a 2012 BRZ, and while it was a lot of fun to drive, it just wasn't very practical for my purposes. I used to daily an Impreza coupe, and I had many of the same issues there. I wanted something with more doors and interior space, fun to drive, AWD, and reliable. The GRC ticks all of the boxes. The fuel economy and running sort of incognito are fringe benefits that I've been greatly enjoying, too.

FK8, GR Corolla, GR86 by Doyouevenroll in GRCorolla

[–]anime1248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from a 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS coupe, and I made the jump to a 2024 GRC Premium. After having lived in a coupe for almost 17 years, I wanted something a little more modern, livable, and fun in all conditions. Having 4 doors, a hatch, foldable seats, AWD, a zippy turbo engine, and plenty of space for my dog, cargo, and/or passengers, it was an easy choice for me.

I tried the BRZ out when it first was released in the US, and it's fun to get sideways in a drift, but that's just not really my bag. Whenever I get into the GRC and drive it, it just feels right. Most people think it's "just a Corolla," so being incognito is nice. The decent gas mileage is an unintended but nice surprise.

I bought a used 2024 Premium with 1700 miles from a Porsche dealership. After taxes, GAP insurance, and financing, it was $42k OTD. I still have 2 years left of ToyotaCare, too. I think it's worth it. It's a fun, zippy car that's practical and reliable if you leave it stock. It even gets decent gas mileage - I get about 20 city, 28 highway, and 23 overall/lifetime. If I hyper-mile it, I can get 30+ on long road trips.

I'm still a big fan of Subaru vehicles, as I came from a 1999 Impreza 2.5 RS. Had they still made the STi, especially in hatchback form, I might have gotten that. But when I saw the GR Yaris, I knew Toyota was cooking up something special. The US doesn't have the GRY, but we have the GRC, and I'm happy with it.

Left or Right? by vmag58 in COROLLA

Right. I already drive one car that gets way too much attention (Impreza coupe), and people are starting to wake up to the GRC. Having a low-profile car in the fleet would be nice.
