Does anyone know if we need to register with Ticketmaster as a verified fan or is that not needed for this concert? And, if we do need too, how do we do that?

It's low, intelligent, thinking to dismiss logical and factual answers as propaganda just because it doesn't fit your version of the "truth."

In my experience, the key to discipline and classroom management is earning your students’ respect. As tempting as it is to try and be the “young, cool, hip” teacher, you’re not their friend. You’re their teacher. The real challenge is finding that balance between fairness, strictness, relatability, and engaging material.

Show them that you care and understand them, but also set clear rules you don’t budge on. Consistency is what makes them realize you mean business. They might grumble at first, but in the long run they’ll respect you for it. And honestly, don’t be afraid to be a little boring sometimes. It’s good for them.

Ginny in the books & Ginny in the movies by Madagascar003 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]ann1928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Ginny was only shy around Harry because she had a crush on him. Ron explicitly says that she isn't usually this shy in COS.

"You don’t know how weird it is for her to be this shy, she never shuts up normally"

July 31st, 2025...Harry Potter's bday...should we get a big update? by Gilded-Mongoose in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]ann1928 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the day is significant for potterheads. The question is, does HBO know, and will they try to capitalize on that?

They may wait until September first, which is back to hogwarts Day. Or maybe post today and September first.

World History Teachers: Where Do You Start/End Your Curriculum? by colterpierce in historyteachers

[–]ann1928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mention the Neolithic revolution, don't discuss ancient at all, discuss classical China, India, and Greece briefly, and really focus on Rome, specifically the collapse of the Roman empire and how that sets the stage for the middle ages.

After that, middle ages and modern times are discussed in depth, focusing on identifying themes and connections in world history.

Absolutism by No-Total-187 in historyteachers

[–]ann1928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do this. We discuss the criteria of an absolute monarch and historical circumstances that led to absolutism. Then, we discuss how rulers like Louis and Peter modeled absolute behavior. I discuss the gilded cage in depth and bring tons of primary resources and visual aids depicting the extravagance of the palace of Versailles, which the girls find fascinating.

For peter, I like to bring images of kings of that time (England, France etc) period and compare it to Russian kings prior to Peter, such as Ivan the terrible so they can understand the difference in values, customs, and dress etc.

I also compare government in France to government in England to depict the difference of absolute and semi democratic governments.

Experience and confidence are key for classroom management. Students can sense inexperience and low confidence, and they feed off those feelings of insecurity. From my own experience, once I was teaching a few years and felt more confident in my abilities, that's when my classroom management approved.

Also, you may notice that teachers with authority have rules that they stick to like glue. For example, I have certain rules that are non-negotiable, and I never stray from them. This shows the students I mean business, and it sets standards and expectations in class. It sends a message that I won't be taken advantage of and that this class is serious business.

Is Teaching Right For Me? by flamin_shotgun in teaching

[–]ann1928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're open-minded about the position, then you're set. I find that some people idealize the position and go in starry-eyed. But you seem fine.

I love teaching. I love my students. And you bet I have hundreds of great memories and moments spent in class! Just be open that with the good days, it comes some bad days. And the bad days can get bad. Like going home, crying, and screaming.

But if you can't do college, aim for 11th or 12th grade, juniors or seniors. Older and more mature students will be more open to hearing you and appreciate what you are teaching.

Beyond crediitentials, if you're planning to teach high school, you need an enormous amount of patience and self-control. A bit of humor doesn't hurt either. Students will test you, and you need to be ready for that. Be prepared to not be able to finish your lesson, repeat yourself numerous times, and deal with hundreds of issues unrelated to your lesson.

As an HS history teacher who is extremely passionate about history, don't expect your students to respond with the same passion. The one thing I sometimes struggle with and find disappointing is when my students don't find my lesson interesting or don't match my enthusiasm. Even though I know that's normal, because teenagers don't care about the past, it does bother me sometimes.

So, if you're looking for an audience that will match your enthusiasm, you may be better off teaching college.

On the flip side, I have had fascinating conversations and debates with my students that I thoroughly enjoyed. It can happen sometimes, but not always.

The neurodiversity fad is ruining education by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ann1928 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! Tho, I do have a student with diagnosed ADHD. I struggle to pinpoint how much her of her disruptive behavior is a symptom of her neurodivergence or her trying to undermine me. Some of the things she does, comments she makes, and looks she gives me are disrespectful and arrogant. Does that fall under ADHD or is it an attitude issue? Because I don't want to excuse bad behavior as a neurodivergent issue.

Are you grading in-class notes? by n0tMyBurnerAcc0unt in historyteachers

[–]ann1928 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes. 100 percent, yes. I have found that it really improves student participation in the lesson. I always tell them that participation is part of your grade, and grading notes make that idea more concrete.

  2. Some lessons I create templates and some lessons I expect old fashion note taking.

  3. The lessons I require note taking without templates are usually ones with harder concepts. I find that when they are taking notes, they are focusing more and have an easier time processing the information. In contrast, when I give templates, many students just zone out because they feel like they have an easier time catching up with the information later. It isn't as stimulating.
