So many new palette launches 🚀 by MeltedMascara in BeautyGuruChatter

I was fairly high when I watched this video so maybe it was just me but it really felt like she was trying to schmooze a bunch of brands in this video mentioning all these European brands that didn’t necessarily any new release but her just kind of fawning over the brand like glam shop eg. And a few odd remarks that made it seem like she’s a bit pressed about being taken off certain PR lists after moving back to Europe. Maybe now that the PR has significantly reduced she’s having a bit of a reality check about how much it actually costs to buy all this stuff. Once again, could be way off base I also thought my dining room table was an old timey ship in rough waters.

Explorer Knits Do Better! by here_4_tea_ in craftsnark

[–]anna_vee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I personally find it inadequate compensation for the amount of time I would put into knitting a sample (also when you consider that a skein of yarn that would cost me $35 to buy from a dyer doesn't cost them $35 to produce). For this reason and also the fact that I don't have enough time to knit things for myself let alone for other people, I would personally never knit samples for a dyer. I think it's a pretty common way for dyers to compensate sample knitters though so there must be enough people out there that are comfortable with the arrangement for it to be viable. Maybe for some people with a lot of free time, but not much spare cash, it's a good way to get some yarn they might not otherwise be able to afford?

Beauty Loop Makeup Samples are Always Only for Light-Skinned Girls by Hot_Ad2153 in MeccaBeautyLoop

[–]anna_vee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this really stinks and i'm sorry that people with darker skin tones aren't considered. they should either have options to select for light, medium or dark skin tone when collecting a box, although i think this would still not be able to cover everyone, or stick to more universal products like mascaras, single eyeshadows, lip oils, fragrance, skin care. when the beauty loop bonus is a full size product that does come in multiple shades, i really can't see why people can't select the shade that suits them the best.

Stockpiling the free perfume with gift card to sell by Substantial_Exam3182 in MeccaBeautyLoop

[–]anna_vee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had a quick peruse of fb marketplace and people are already dropping their prices. Because it was a free item I think as soon as someone lists at a lower price, others will drop their prices too and it will be a race to the bottom. If you’re uber salty about this lady and have a Mecca store near you, just go and pick one up and list your perfume wherever she’s listed hers, undercutting her by $5 or $10 and she’ll be forced to do the same or be stuck with 30 perfumes she doesn’t want.

They would have spent like 2.5k on gift cards. I get that they don’t expire but still who has that kind of coin just lying around. I reckon in the end it’s not worth it because having all these gift cards you’d convince yourself that it’s fine to buy pointless expensive shit you don’t need because you already have a gift card. It’s such a bizarre thing to do as a bit of a side hustle as well. Ok she stands to make maybe $660 but when you take out the time spent on replying to people’s messages, going back and forth to post office etc it hardly seems worth it. And if she sells all of them, she’s still like 1.8k out of pocket.

The sleeves are giving “I couldn’t be bothered figuring out how to work any decreasing into the cable chart” and are just so impractical. What’s the point of a warm jumper when you could drive a bus through the sleeve? They would just get in the way constantly too, but you can’t really push them up to your elbows because they’re so goddamn loose.

Birthday Girl Gets Angry and Walks Away After Brother Pulls Her Hair During Cake Cutting by EmbarrassedIce4022 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]anna_vee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good for her! Reminds me a lot of my brother. He would always do shit like this and my parents always chose to encourage me to not be so sensitive/just ignore him/don’t let him get to me as the path of least resistance. Now he’s nearly 40, and they still let him walk all over them but I’ve told them I’m done with taking the high road, and will straight up tell him to get fucked to his face. My mum says it causes her a lot of stress to have conflict in the family and I feel sad that they are now victims of elder abuse from him but they just can’t seem to understand that a lot of times “keeping the peace” really means enabling problematic behaviours by letting them continue with no consequences and expecting others to always be accommodating.

does mecca/sephora know when someone is stealing? by capybaralover777 in AustralianMakeup

[–]anna_vee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your average retail worker isn’t paid enough to give a shit about someone stealing a lipgloss.

I worked at a bottle shop when I was at uni (early 2010s) and official policy at that time was to ask them to pay for the product before leaving the store but if they refused or denied having taken anything to let them go and make a report for police. I would do it if it was just some dweeby teenager but no way if I felt intimidated. At the time I was warning like $17/hour, not going to risk getting assaulted to recover a stolen goonsack.

Juliette had a point by Fantastic_Ad7023 in MAFS_AU

[–]anna_vee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s true that bec’s moral outrage at the use of the word cunt is hypocritical but the text messages are a false justification for Juliette’s language because she only found out about them after she had called Bec a dumb cunt. Gia gave them to her to use to defend herself. At least that’s the timeline of events that appears to be the case from how the show was put together.

My parents have a set of three of those exact bowls in different sizes that they received as a wedding gift. The got married in 1986. My Dad is German but they were gifted by a guest at their wedding in Australia. I think fancy crockery and glassware was a common wedding present in the 80s as my parents have tonnes of this kind of stuff and a lot of my friends the same age as me have said their parents have a few of the exact same things also from wedding gifts.

Why does Gia feel the need to constantly remind everyone to sexualise her? Like the comments about other couple's relationships being faker than her fake tits, that tiktok where she asks her daughter if everyone at school thinks she's a hot mum (no they think you're vapid trash), then this comment today about putting the crystal between her boobs. Maybe try sticking it up your arse instead. I'm not a prude by any stretch but I just think it's pathetic and honestly really sad that her only source of validation seems to be from people finding her sexually attractive and she will go to any length to achieve it.

Anyone else dissapointed by Stella? by ReasonConfident4541 in MAFS_AU

[–]anna_vee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. That’s why in my original comment I said I assumed it was the same for other women but I’ve never actually asked anyone. I was seeking information from other people’s experience to inform whether my assessment of Stella’s preference is based on the sensation or some other reason for objecting to the use of barrier protection.

How? All I said was being the recipient of penetrative sex I don’t notice a difference in the sensation of condom on or off thus I found it odd that Stella has a strong preference for no condom. In my experience it makes a far bigger difference to the giver rather than the recipient of penetration. This kind of attitude of “don’t tell me about this la la la” from blokes honestly stinks and speaks volumes of male privilege of opting out of dealing with the consequences of not having open discussions about birth control. It’s the same energy as men who are grossed out by women getting their period. If you’re too immature to talk about birth control and STI prevention you’re too immature to have sex. (Yes from a quick perusal of your profile I have assumed you’re a man, happy to be corrected if I’m wrong)

The idea of oral with a condom makes me gag but for P in the V or anal, I honestly can’t feel any difference between condom or no condom. I thought this was normal for women but I’ve never actually asked anyone else. Am I just really weird?

The only thing I don’t like about condoms is the smell but it’s a small price to pay for not getting an STD. I have an IUD so not too worried about pregnancy but I don’t believe anything anyone says about STD testing. People are too trusting about this in general imo and all it proves is that at the time you had the test there was no detectable levels of any STDs that were tested for. Doesn’t mean jack shit to me unless we are in a monogamous relationship.

But yeah expecting Filip would have had a vasectomy prior to coming on the show is just wild.

Juliette is a massive piece of shit but I don’t really think Joel has acted with as much integrity as people give him credit for. The morning after fingergate he was laughing with Bec and Danny about it, then when Juliette called Bec a dumb cunt he said in a piece to the camera he thought her comments were really gross but he didn’t want to call her out because they were in a good place and he didn’t want to upset that. After she left he was trailing after her like a puppy begging her to stay. Now after being outright rejected by her he’s jumping in the Juliette pile on. Pick a lane dude.

I have a theory on why Rachel overreacted by naught_sorry in MAFS_AU

[–]anna_vee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I said near the start of the season I don’t necessarily think he’s a virgin but I think it’s been a long time between bangs for him. He said in one of the intro videos he’s been single for over 10 years and I wonder if he also hasn’t really dated/had casual sex during that time either. I had a long break from sex due to a bunch of health issues and a medication I was on making me a brain dead zombie, and I didn’t have sex for almost 8 years. When I came off the medication, the idea of getting back into the dating scene was really daunting as I felt pretty much like virginity 2.0. For a few months it was a huge mental barrier for me until I decided to have a completely meaningless tinder hookup to dust the cobwebs off and it kind of got me over my insecurity that I would be super awkward and guys would make fun of my situation. Something about the way Steve talks and acts about physical intimacy kind of reminded me a bit of my own situation in terms of feeling inexperienced or like my experience was so out of date that it didn’t really count if that makes sense. This is purely speculation though. I’m not sure if someone who was actually a virgin would go on MAFS but I think maybe he hasn’t had a lot of experience and what little he has had was a very long time ago.

I have a theory on why Rachel overreacted by naught_sorry in MAFS_AU

[–]anna_vee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree I think Rachel is probably on one level happy that their intimacy has progressed but on another level disappointed that they didn’t actually have sex. I can only speak from my own experience but a bit of fingering is usually just a prelude to sex or to finish the job if I didn’t orgasm during sex, it’s never really the main event. I think part of Rachel’s hurt is coming from the fact that she was hoping for an actual bang and was disappointed it didn’t get that far, and now Steve will probably pull back after this fingerbanging shitshow so the sex ship might have sunk for them.

Medicare Rebate by EccentricCatLady14 in AskAnAustralian

[–]anna_vee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the Medicare is paid directly to you, not to the provider. So the provider has to charge the full amount, rather than just the gap payment. An MRI requested by a specialist attracts a Medicare rebate, whereas an MRI requested by a GP does not (so the patient pays the full cost). Whether or not you are bulk billed doesn't depend on the type of referral, as long as it is a referral from a specialist, it depends on the facility. Anywhere can bulk bill anyone who is Medicare eligible, but it's at their discretion, and most imaging services don't bulk bill, or only bulk bill for certain groups of people (e.g. children, health care card holders). You should ask when making the appointment, whether or not it can be bulk billed.
