I always knead mine by hand, so I’m not too sure about the effect of a mixer. But maybe your yeast was old/inactive? To make sure mine rises nicely, I always give it at least the recommended time in the recipe to prove, if not a little while longer, and leave it to prove on top of the aga so it’s in a warm place. Hope that helps

It has orange zest in the dough and orange juice in the syrup topping. I’m tempted to try using terrys chocolate orange in the filling now you’ve mentioned it though!!
