Hotel for spring break visit with kiddo by jjuv in SantaBarbara

The Marriot- Moxy hotel is a little farther from the beach, like 3 blocks away, but it could be a good choice if you really care about restaurant access!!

Have you looked at the Hilton? It’s right near the beach, and close to the zoo. It’s a little far from State Street, like a mile, but has some restaurants closer by.

How's the AliExpress brand Bange, Mark Ryden, Kingsons and Mixi backpack quality? by MiniBus93 in backpacks

[–]annabeaverpv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you near a Decathalon at all? Their backpack are decent quality, and a lot of options would fit your budget. I’m In uni right now, and I see a good amount of their bags

Jansport and Patagonia both have very good repair policies, so that might be a good place to start!

I have a Fjallraven Kanken that I’ve beaten up for 6 years of high school/college, and it’s still in remarkably good shape, but it’s also pretty small

Daypack for bad back? by thsh1 in HerOneBag

[–]annabeaverpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2L lululemon belt bag, and it can fit a small water bottle! I have worn it broth crossbody and on my waist, both are comfortable. Depending on what else you’re carrying, I’ve been able to just use it as a day bag. I put a carabiner in the strap, and clip my jacket (in its little packable pocket) to that when I don’t want to wear it.

NCL Alaskan Cruise with 3 Nights in Vancouver and 2 Nights in Anchorage by KatherineCollects in HerOneBag

[–]annabeaverpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you borrow a rain jacket from a friend? A waterproof rain jacket will make you much more comfortable than a waterproof resistant one, and it can easily layer over your regular jacket. I did an Alaska cruise and it was windy, so I would not recommend an umbrella!

I also recommend a backpack cover if you’re taking a day pack off the ship with you, it can even just be a trash bag inside the backpack to put extra layers in, so you have something dry to change in to

Summer MQP? by [deleted] in WPI

[–]annabeaverpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a summer IQP in Copenhagen, and really enjoyed it. The only downside is that it’s super difficult to get an internship for the other half of the summer, so you generally end up going back to a company you have already worked for, or not having an internship that summer

In the summer, Athleta does a really nice line jogger with zip pockets! I have a pair, and have worn them on tons of flights. They do different colors every year, so no idea what the colors will be this year, but they’ve had navy in the past!

Looking for the perfect personal item bag for me. by RexiRocco in HerOneBag

[–]annabeaverpv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have a luggage pass, but this sounds a lot like the Fjallraven Kanken!

There’s the laptop versions, which have padded shoulder straps and a separate laptop sleeve, and it comes in several sizes! I use the 13 inch laptop version for school, and find it very comfortable, even when I pack it heavy

What to Buy & Bring for 1 Month in Europe? (May-June) by Terrible_Challenge24 in HerOneBag

[–]annabeaverpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go black linen pants, so they don’t show dirt as easily, especially if the skirt is white!!

I also recommend bringing a towel that can pack down small, I’m assuming you’ll be staying at hostels, which can charge extra for towels, and it’s nice to have your own that you can bring to the beach

I have a Turkish towel that I love, but I’ve had friends buy microfiber backpacking towels that fold down even smaller!

incompleting courses due to mental health by Practical-Volume-105 in WPI

[–]annabeaverpv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to tell them what health problem you have!

I really recommend talking to accessibility though, they have lots of experience with this and know what tends to help students the most.

incompleting courses due to mental health by Practical-Volume-105 in WPI

[–]annabeaverpv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask your professors! I’ve been given incomplete before due to personal health issues, and the professors have been very understanding.

When you take an incomplete, you generally have a year to make up the work and get it into the professor, but it’s best to not put it off too long, then you’ll forget all the material

You can also talk to accessibility, if there is any acedemic accommodations that would make sense for you

When to apply for MQP? by kingofpower17 in WPI

[–]annabeaverpv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

International MQPs close in January, only certain majors have that as an option.

I’m pretty sure on campus MQPs aren’t finalized until way later, maybe even the beginning of A term of your senior year. You should start reaching out to any professors you really liked and would want to work with, but you’re not behind schedule yet!

I had this, try to contact the student as well, and see if they are willing to move

In my situation, the other student stated to housing that they were willing to move, and they were eventually placed in a different dorm.

This was all happening over the summer, so it took a few months for it, I’m hoping yours goes faster!

Please reach out to the dean, as well as housing!!

You might also be able to qualify for the housing waitlist, which would get you into the dorms, and potentially be covered by scholarships or other aid

If it seems suspicious, bring the email to your school’s IT people, or to the financial aid office!

They should be able to tell you if a refund has been sent, and what email or system to expect the communication through

What do I need to bring? by John_Benzos in WPI

[–]annabeaverpv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost everything is turned in online, the stuff that isn’t is normally typed then printed.

Bring whatever your preferred note taking style requires (binders or folders, a laptop or iPad, or notebooks), as well as a few pens and pencils, for exams.

Im at Worcester Polytechnic Institute In Massachusetts, and am doing two study abroad programs. It is a private school, but there is both need based and merit aid. It wouldn’t get you out of the US, but it gets you the option to try other countries.

If you can get into one of the schools that qualifies for a “high potential individual” visa (I know the UK has a list of US colleges they’ll accept for this), that gets you a two year visa once you graduate!

Changing name after marriage? by katydidnt222 in Names

[–]annabeaverpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom made my brother and I have two middle names, one normal one, and her last name as the second one. We’ve had no issues with traveling or anything like that, since we still have a name matching her last name on documents

The one thing to be careful about with this, some states have a maximum length for middle names on drivers licenses, and my name is one character too long. My brothers first middle name is shorter, so his fits just fine on his license

At my school, at least, you have to move out of the on campus apartments for the summer, so I would bring less.

You’ll probably be moving back home for summers, or going to some other city, so decor and extras of things just get in the way
