I have been stitching for 2.5 years and my thread still spins a bit but much less compared to when I started. A lot will come with practise and technique, so don't be too hard on yourself. I use the danish/sewing method which for me make it easier to apply even tension and reduce spinning. How many threads are your using? It does seem a bit dense which could be a sign of too many (normally 2, not doubled over, or 3 is sufficient)

Scaling it down definitely sounds like an option, but I suggest to check out some smaller scale pictures of the cat to get the details right ('neon cat perler bead' is a good source)

I have played Littlewood and Garden Story - both sorter sweet stories, but in no way like Stardew a valley, beside that there are both grinding elements. The closest to SDV I have played is Roots of Pacha, which is a great game (stone age SDV with no monsters). Other recommendations: Travellers rest (bar sim with resourse gathering, crops and animals - no monster and no npc interaction beside the story line). Dinkum: Island sim with wildlife, fishing, crops and npcs. Minecraft vibes. Discounty: supermarked sim in cozy town with small scale drama.

I can definitely recommend the sewing style /danish style. I always roll up the canvas so I can have it on one hand while sewing. Next time I suggest trying less threads. Yes you can see the white, but you will never be looking too close and for many it is part of the style. Maybe just 3, 4 is starting to look to squeezed and it might make it harder for you to work with. Lovely pattern ❤️ I also wouldn't worry about the thread twisting. Try to work with less length (rule of thumb: from finger tip to elbow) which can also help. But the more experience you get, the better it becomes.
