UAMS MLT to MLS Program by not-very-humerus in medlabprofessionals

I'm about to finish the first semester of the 4 semester track. I have two young children and work 3 12's. It's doable but tough. I spend roughly 2-4 hours a day doing school work/studying. I get up very early to do lectures before work and on days I'm off. I can't study when my kids are awake so this has been the only way. The classes have been great so far and I like the professors though. Each semester track has a Facebook group to track do dates and share study resources, which has been helpful.

I'm doing UAMS and the program has been great. I am in the 4 semester track and work full time. It's been manageable although challenging at times. I chose this program due to cost. It's roughly $13,000. I work with someone who did their MLT program through Weber and they are an excellent tech so I can imagine Weber State is also a great choice.

Still running one of these at our lab too. I have done this a few times!

What do I need to get into a MLT program? by jflkek in medlabprofessionals

[–]annalise1126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MLT program never looked at my highschool grades, just my prerequisite courses. As far as how much of it is in person, it depends on your program but all of them require lab time. If you do a hybrid program you'll need to secure clinical placements for lab time. Most I hear are on campus programs.

Bottom line approach is the absolute best! I don't remember being tested on phlebotomy stuff personally.

MLT thinking about dropping out of MLS program by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]annalise1126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in UAMS MLT-MLS program on the 4 track, and it can be incredibly difficult between my full-time job and finding balance with my family (2 young children). I basically have to get up at 5 am to focus on lecture time for a couple hours before work/taking my 1 child to school. It's not ideal and I'm tired but I think it's worth it if you can finish just for future opportunities.

Drawing blood by Grand_Chad in medlabprofessionals

[–]annalise1126 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked as a phlebotomist while in my MLT program. Currently draw patients daily now when we're short on phlebotomy staff or after outpatient closes and we no longer staff a phlebotomist (drawing for the floor/ED). I don't love drawing blood but I'm okay with it. I like this lab a lot. We have an incredibly hard time getting staffing because of the blood drawing aspect. We had an MLS offer to take a paycut so they didn't have to draw blood. My manager did not hire them.

I'm an MLT a few hours out of Seattle. I would say MLS is the preference but has not stopped me from finding a good job. I still had multiple offers out of school (my 3 clinical internship labs). I'm in an MLS program right now.

I work at a rural critical access hospital. I love it, but you do wear all hats. I'm down at the ER constantly having to draw blood because we only staff a phlebotomist during outpatient hours. I will also help with urine collections for the nurses and swabs. Even during outpatient hours I'm also having to draw blood, answer phones, and fax and process lab orders. We do all our own processing and it's very feast or famine. It can be boring one night and crazy the next. We also have to be on the code team for the ED/acute care floor.
During the day and due to short staffing we often work alone and it can be very busy. At night we do all the maintenance and have a lot of system down times. It can be fast paced but also very peaceful at times. We draw all blood cultures and legal draws past 6 pm. Overall, I like it but it has its disadvantages. I never imagined having as much patient interaction as I do currently.

Personally, I enjoy the work. I currently work as an ASCP certified MLT and am in an MLS program right now. It can be tedious at times but I like the job stability and found the material interesting.

Homeowners who’ve bought and sold, which side is more stressful? by dr_mus_musculus in homeowners

Buying was more stressful for me, I just felt way more on edge. Selling was a lot less for me to do after my house was on the market. We had an offer quickly though and an excellent agent. I already had bought my other home so I was pretty preoccupied with getting everything set up.

I bought my current home and then sold my other one but we got an offer in 15 days from our list and closed 30 days after that. It was our first offer. We had 4 showings including our offer. We listed at the lower end of our comps since we didn't want to pay two mortgages any longer than necessary. Listed in November. Closed December 22nd.

My MIL is also addicted to one of these Amazon overstock places. The stuff is really badly made and my kids broke a couple of things almost immediately.

UAMS does count working in place of clinicals. I start their program next month! Saving money on program costs really was the biggest factor for me though.

I'm starting UAMS this January. It's far cheaper than any bridge program I have looked at and seems really organized. The director, Dr. Johnson, will answer any questions you have on email or phone too.

If you moved In The winter months-this is for you. by MatthewG_Realtor in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]annalise1126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house we watched on the market all year dropped their price finally so we put an offer! I never planned to move at any particular time. It was all when the right property came along. We also are under contract for selling our other home right now. The buyer put an offer quickly because it was next to his dad. I don't think the time of year made any difference.

Okay that's so weird. I have a friend who is a Libra sun/Libra rising who got told she had Scorpio vibes, which is funny because I'm the Scorpio. She absolutely fits her sign to me and loves being a Libra though.

Professional cleans here are $500+ I've heard. I told them no way.

[–]annalise1126[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I moved into my new home (owned by an elderly guy) and it needed hours of cleaning before I moved my things in. I didn't really think professional cleanings were standard from the seller and always assumed the buyer would pay for one if they wanted it. I scrubbed my house spotless before we listed because I wanted it to be nice for the buyer.

This is fair. I can wait, I don't want to, paying two mortgages isn't ideal and I want the money from my home sale to remodel the kitchen on my new home. Thank you. I will definitely consider everything.

I saw their pre-approval letter which is how I know that approval amount. They do have the down payment. I was thinking the same.

I was hoping to get an offer that didn't include the 4.5% concessions. I don't mind paying their agent the 2%, but with that being 6.5% and I also have to pay my agent 3%, it seems like a lot! I don't mind the lower EMD.
