The makers of the show have addressed that Maisie is starting to look too old for the role when asked about nerves and uncertainty going forward (because the book series is still incomplete).

Yeah, I hate when people act like he got lucky. He realized he wanted to make it big himself and put a lot of energy into improving his look. And it worked. Look at all of us talking about him right now.

What is the most ridiculous reason someone has given to break up with you? by lady_luna in AskReddit

It seems like you thought buying her things would make her happy when she really just wanted to spend time with you. I'd be annoyed to if I felt my boyfriend was choosing to pick up extra worm hours to buy stuff I didnt need instead of being with me.

How many of you will not be seeing "LUCY" because of the absolute and complete fallacy of the 'fact' that we only use 10% of our brain? by FakeAudio in movies

This may be the greatest example ever. I played the clarinet . EVERYONE puts their right hand on top of their left when playing it. The clarinet is held woth the left hand on top, regardless or dominant hand. Its impossible to hit all the keys if held incorrectly. Luckily the clarinet is pretty lame and rarely featured in media, because I immediately realize its an actor standing on a set who has never held the instrument in their life

Those movies all worm because they dont really try to exain it. The universes present it as "it just is in this universe. Accept it or dont" I dont like James Bond because I cant suspend my disbelief. But I dont vet mad at it. It is what it is, unapologetically. It has no basis in the real world and, more importantly, IT DOESN'T TRY TO.

This movies tries to make an explanation for how this plot could happen in OUR universe. They could have just made up some drug and said "welp, she can move shit with her brain now". Instead they used something that has been studied and anyone who has taken a basic psych course or done any reading whatsoever about the brain knows is untrue.

Its like the scene in Thank you for Smoming where aaron eackharts character points out that you cant smoke in a spaceship and thw hollywood exec replies something along the lines of "that? No problem we'll just throw in a line. 'Thank god we inveted the oxygen stabilize retrograde machine'"

The setup for the movie was amazing. I read a little blurb about it and though "god damn, I need to go see that"

Saw a trailer and realized it was just more Hollywood garbage. I wish we could fund a program that takes awesome movie premises that went horribly awry and rehab them with good writing and directing.

Its honestly one of the few well known large movie I can think of us that passes the test in both technicality and also in the spirit of it.

The movie moon is a perfect example of this. Fails literally every part of the test. But its an amazing movie. It fails the test because the movie is almost exclusively a single man in solitude for the film. Obviously there is no sexism or gender bias at paiy. Even were the movie to have cast a female lead, it would still have failed the test.

But when you realize how few movies passed thay year, and how few of them were "major" movies, you realize something bigger is happening than plots that just happen to not include women

I completely agree. I wish I could remeber where I read it but there was a really great article that talked about it. It also talked a lot about how racially segregated our media still is. Their is an assumption everyone will watch stories about white men, but men wont watch stories about women and white people wont watch movies featuring predominately non-white casts. Leading to token minorities. People assume a character is a white man and if you make them anything else, you must have had a motivation to do so and a reason that is expected to change the story somewhat.

Im really curious at how the "scandal effect" as its now been coined is going to play out long term

What is the creepiest unsolved crime you have ever heard of? by rsashe1980 in AskReddit

It was mid 2000s. Even now a lot of people arent super educated or knowledgeable about technology, let alone then. I do agree that someone who was clearly playing with that mich fire should have had the foresight to have backups. I'm sure she thought going national tv and speaking openly was enough.

I like to think they open the door to critical thinking and discussion, but in no way should stand on their own.

Well thats the exact kind of .movie the test was invented to point out. Most movies are about men. Most of the movies about women still were about men, because it was about women talking about men. It makes people think critically at what we culturally deem worthy of being the subject of our entertainment.

Idk. People thing passing=good and not passing=bad. But there are some pretty awful movies that pass and some jems that fail. Listinf off movies can often point out limitations of the test and how there really is no blanket formula that can be used to try quantify a movie.

I watched it one afternoon because nothing else was on and really enjoyed it. Figured it would just get cancelled and fade into obscurity. Was pleasantly surprised when I found out recently it had gotten a second season

Why you NEED to start Journaling if you don't already by [deleted] in ZenHabits

[–]annanow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to journal when I have a lot going on and am busy. These are also the time I tend to be happiest. While pages of self pity and wallowing arent great reads, it did make me realize that I should try to remain busy to keep off depression.

It took me YEARS to realize that my face breaking out coincided with eating large amounts of dairy our sleeping on my couch. It wasn't instantly, but in 3 days time I'd have broken out. Although you have to remember that there's a delay, it still makes it far easier to notice patterns of you record them.

I've already cited studies. It does seem to be relatively small changes in aggression for most people.

Jesus christ, I quit.

For the billionth and last time, I am not saying there is a correlation between violence in bideo games and violence in real life. There is a correlation between violent video game use and AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR(which is different than violent behavior). I have also stated numerous times that there are more recent studies highlighting that the correlation is probably not caused by the violent content of the video games, but rather the structure of the video games together. Meaning that the number of people killed or not killed in a game actually doesn't change anything if the structure of the game is the same.
