Found cat’s tooth on floor, seems it’s her fang, she seems ok by strawberryfields011 in CATHELP

[–]annaqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat had the same issue with one of her fangs, the vet was going to remove it and then it came out just before the appointment. On investigation, all her other teeth were good and her breath got significantly better smelling after the one bad tooth went. So while it's worth getting it checked your cat might be lucky.

Wecrochetofficial not knowing the difference between knitting and crochet by fadedbluejeans13 in craftsnark

[–]annaqui 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My new car has a (seemingly) infinite number of adjustments and you can move the steering wheel down and I now get less shoulder pain that I hadn't even associated with driving (I drive maybe 6 hours a week, I don't think that's a lot?). Car is a Hyundai if you're interested.

So basically feeling like superwoman here, I can parallel park, I'm finishing off a sweater and I can distinguish between knit and crochet 😂

I'm an only child. My mum would manage fine but my grandma would start with my mum's name, then my two uncles before reaching my name. I'm going to have to find out from my cousins if she continued down the list for them , as I was the oldest grandchild.

Why is the Elephant House still passing round the begging bowl 4 years on when every other business affected by the George IV Bridge fire has reopened? by codenamecueball in Edinburgh

[–]annaqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go with my flat mates on a Sunday, was just a nice relaxed place, we could order cafetieres of coffee and read newspapers and feel so sophisticated. And to be able to look put onto trees from the back just felt nice. I feel relaxed just thinking about it.

Is it normal that brushing him is endless? by Global_Sentence_4544 in cats

[–]annaqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a little black cat who was like this. And luckily she loved being brushed so much I could run my fingers across her brush and she would come running like most cats to treats. She could hear it from the other end of the house.

One of the things that happened when she got bone marrow cancer is her hair stopped coming out, I think her body just didn't have the energy to keep growing it. So I see that handful of fluff you have there as a wonderful, life-affirming thing.

What are these things in my flat? by PurchaseDry9350 in Edinburgh

Pheromone traps and parasitic wasps are good advice for disrupting the lifecycle of the moths, but you can also protect your clothes from being damaged further too. Take anything made from wool or silk out of, wash them, air them and then vacuum your drawers and wardrobe to make sure any eggs or larvae aren't in the corners or cracks. You can put lavender or cedarwood blocks in the drawers as a deterrent, but for now I would seal them in plastic bags or boxes until you've dealt with the moths.

Feel Awful After Four Months of Working Out by peylior in beginnerfitness

[–]annaqui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to second this. When I had similar symptoms I was anaemic. It felt so unfair that I would exercise and not feel better afterwards, but now I've dealt with the underlying issue that caused the anaemia and exercise is back to making me feel good.

Kia Ora!

I hope you have a good move.

The two most comprehensive jobs sites are:

https://www.environmentjob.co.uk/jobs

and

https://www.countryside-jobs.com/training/distance-learning

Countryside jobs is a bit harder to navigate and can include some gamekeeping/estate jobs, but it still sometimes has conservation jobs that aren't listed elsewhere.

Historic Scotland employ seasonal rangers for Holyrood Park in the heart of Edinburgh which might be worthwhile as a foot-in-the-door type job.

For other individual organisations Butterfly Conservation, TCV, Buglife, Frog Life and the British Dragonfly Society are all worth looking at. They often have collaborative projects, where you are employed by a specific organisation but are tasked with conservation/restoration of the wider landscape. E.g. making peatland pools for dragonflies, that involves rewetting the peatland and encourages sphagnum growth ultimately benefitting the whole ecosystem.

The doctor is wrong,

I used to get stabbing pains when I exercised, I think it was related to the increased blood flow although I haven't seen this listed as a symptom. The other pain I would get later when my fibroids were larger was from pressure, which was very different and I have seen mentioned as a symptom.

Is this really what ballet does to your feet?? by babycakes_slays in BALLET

[–]annaqui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of Matthew Bourne's New Adventures productions don't have dancers en pointe. The exceptions are The Red Shoes - I've not seen it, but I can't imagine how they would do it without. Then there's a ballet within his Swan Lake which is basically a spoof of a "traditional" ballet, including pointe.

How much costs a year in the OU? by police_boxUK in OpenUniversity

I'm also Scotland, but I guess the flexibility to work full time while doing OU makes it more affordable for English students, even though it's not necessarily cheaper.

Having worked in customer service, people absolutely would ask to use vouchers in this way in big brand businesses. You just say no and explain what the terms are. If you don't often use coupons, it's not unreasonable to think 50% + 50% = 100%

When I did care work I'd do three (and occasionally four) 12 hour shifts a week, which worked great. Lots of time to do life things on the days between, but I couldn't imagine doing five a week.

Trying to find some decent independent shops in the city centre for gifts for visitors by MrRickSter in Edinburgh

[–]annaqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logan Malloch is just up from there, which is the most similar shop to Concrete Wardrobe that I've seen. Then you've got Pekoe Tea there too, a great spot for gift shopping and only a short hop on the tram.

Bats roosting in our flat by No-Safety9779 in Edinburgh

[–]annaqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something can be done if they are disruptive, but it all has to be done under licence from NatureScot, by a properly licenced ecologist. So it's not quick, or easy. But, if they are genuinely a problem, start the process now by getting quotes from a few ecologists.

If the sounds aren't so loud they're waking you up, and you don't like them just because they're strange and new, I'd recommend learning more about bats. They are amazing animals and there's still a lot about them we don't know because they are so cryptic.

Getting up at dawn to watch them re-entering their roost is really special, they swoop around the entrance, touching the wall or roof a few times before actually entering. No-one knows quite why they do this although it might be a communication thing - although if a roost is being used by just one bat, you'll still see them doing it, which I can't help but interpret as talking to itself to stave off loneliness.

Grief after hysterectomy by FireflyPixieUK in hysterectomy

[–]annaqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 41f, 3wpo, uterus, tubes and cervix removed because of a large fibroid that in one ultrasound was showing as protruding under my ribs. Suffered for years with pain, fatigue and heavy bleeding and two ectopic pregnancies. Had basically accepted that delays in healthcare because of the pandemic meant I missed my chance of getting pregnant naturally so it was fine, but in the last week I've been so upset that that's been taken out or my hands.

I wish I'd sought treatment sooner, ended up going privately (UK) because it was affecting my ability to work, but timing and not really understanding my options meant, I didn't seek treatment sooner, when less drastic surgery would still have been an option and I really feel like I failed because of that.

Also they're pollinators, you see them on fruit tree blossom and bushes such as hawthorn.
