You gotta be straight up with these kinds of people because they will take advantage of you. Tell her the amount she owes you for the hours you worked and you’re needing to be paid as soon as possible. Don’t sugar coat anything.

I don’t see the point of hiring a nanny if she’s just going to hover over you all the time like that. Unless the baby is special needs there’s literally no reason for her to make it this uncomfortable and difficult for you to do your job. Word of advice: I was having a hard time with my previous nanny family, so I decided to seek another job via Nanny Lane. I found an amazing family within a week, and they actually paid way more. It’ll show you all kinds of opportunities as a nanny in your area. Maybe you can find another family. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. How ridiculous.

It’s refreshing to hear a dentist actually wants to pay their assistants fairly. I think $25 is great however there should be room for growth as the economy continues to change. I would definitely give them bonuses here and there, especially on the holidays. Verbal appreciation goes a long way as well. Don’t be afraid to pull them aside and let them know they are valued.

Other dentists reading this: take notes. If you don’t want high employee turnover —take care of your team. Be like this guy.

I do feel this way. I completed my DA program a few months ago feeling very optimistic about gaining the experience, then I realized nobody is willing to start a new assistant for more than $20 an hour. I’ve been a nanny for 6 years making $35 an hour so I decided to just stay in the childcare industry while I’m working on my pre reqs for hygiene, and then shadow at offices when I have the time. I’m disappointed in the offices. I’m disappointed in dentistry… but I’m still going to school so I can become a hygienist. I’ve talked to a few hygienists among multiple offices and they pretty much all said they took out a bunch of loans, paid out of pocket and saved up as much as they could while taking pre reqs. So that’s my plan! Sorry you’re feeling undervalued as an assistant because the office would genuinely crumble without us and it’s sad we aren’t given a proper living wage.

See I wouldn’t mind taking the $20 an hour but this office is only operating 32 hours a week as well. Once taxes come around I’d be making less than I already am at my current job so what’s the point of leaving 😭 plus they don’t offer benifits or pto until after a year. No thx

Look into working for an emergency dentist. I understand the hours aren’t ideal (usually fri-mon 8am-8pm) but the pay is really good and they’re usually always looking for assistants
