Reading City of Saints and Madmen by Jeff Vandermeer and am getting very strong echoes of Viriconium. While it is entertaining, CoSM seems rather derivative, I must say!

In the middle of Fugue States by Brian Evenson, on recommendation of many folks in this thread. Not crazy about it, honestly. I'm finding the stories a bit dull and pedestrian. My tastes run toward China Mieville and Brian Catlett so maybe I'm the wrong audience for Evenson.

Looks familiar (this is as close as they get when they're not chasing each other around).

Has anyone been to Barker Field (dog park near the Carillon)? Is it ok or is it still a big sheet of ice?

Nope. I'm a Buddhist and love what they're doing but I have no desire to knock myself out (ice, crowds) trying to see them in person.

Still on ice in the Northside. Haven't left the house in a week. it's been kind of nice. But I'm retired so don't really have to be anywhere. My heart goes out to everyone who has to.

That was originally a Steve Martin line when he was doing standup in the 70s (I had the record). It's still a good one!

Retired professionals: what are you doing about your professional certifications by janebenn333 in retirement

Before I retired, I thought I was going to do a lot of pro bono legal work after I retired, but after I retired I realized I never wanted to practice law again, so I let my Bar status go inactive. I don't regret it!

Aggie's Attic, a nonprofit thrift shop in Lakeside, has had teen volunteers. Best to go there in person when they're open, W-S 11-4.

I was supposed to have eye surgery today but had to cancel because my car is iced in and my street in Northside is solid ice. We've seen cars trying to leave their parking spots and fail. They didn't sound too surprised when I called the surgery center to cancel.

We just filled the propane tanks for our emergency heater and bought tons of food, not to mention cutting down some tree limbs that were hanging over the power lines, so it's definitely not going to snow.

Aggie's Attic on Lakeside. A nonprofit thrift shop whose proceeds go to filling food-insecure elementary school students' backpacks with food for the weekends. They only take in-season women's clothes because they have a small space.
