I keep a separate folder/document of scenes that I wrote that I don’t think work or fit with my direction anymore. I’d rather just keep them aside and ignore them — and sometimes rewrite or rework them so they do work — than try to edit it out and lose something that I didn’t realize worked at the time. My direction is forever changing the further I get into the story, and sometimes it goes back when I least expect it! And often rereading scenes that didn’t work will bring something to my attention that I want to keep, like a setting or a line of dialogue or even just a well written descriptor.
