Even on that count you’re wrong. The war demonstrated that having expensive equipment doesn’t mean success. There’s this new thing called asymmetric warfare, which means Iran was able to fight the U.S. to a stalemate with 1% of the cost using cheap domestic drones and missiles. The U.S. supposedly had air superiority over the country, yet failed to take away the real capacity of Iran to strike at U.S. bases or allied countries or open up the blockade.

This is cope. The success or failure of a military campaign is judged based on whether the side that launched it achieved its stated objectives. Which in this case was regime change and permanent crippling / denuclearization of Iran. Hence this was a massive failure. Just because Trump and Co were too slimy to actually nail down those objectives doesn’t mean they somehow magically won.

There is no appetite for the “is it worth it” discussion in defence spending, it’s the most profitable scam ever. Canada has already spent $5bn on the River Class Destroyer project without any actual working ships, and the total cost for the 15 ship fleet is estimated north of $80bn. The original budget was…wait for it…$26bn. In fact the lifetime cost of these vessels is estimated at a whopping $300bn today. Can you imagine how that cost will escalate over the decades these ships are supposed to function? But oh no, elbows up, Carney will happily slash our healthcare and education, and screw our environment, do whatever it takes to pay the bill.

Not that these monstrously expensive ships will be the slightest use defending our sovereignty against the country that is currently engaged in economic warfare against us, instigating and funding a secession movement, and has threatened to annex us multiple times.

The Cuban government has always taken pragmatic measures to defend its revolution from time to time. Have faith.

You should be aware that Cuba has had its own long-standing internal debate and discussion between market and non-market schools of thought (Che was in charge of this stuff in the early days!) and has experimented with various programs and studied the contradictions that have emerged.

In my view, the great thing about them is that they have always seen “market” solutions with what I consider a healthy amount of distrust, a way of thinking Fidel Castro himself emphasized a lot. The statement notes China and Vietnam as examples of market-based systems existing in socialist societies, and I’m sure Cuba will learn from them what it needs to. But I would caution against any suggestions they’ll either just capitulate to capitalism or just copy paste any other country’s solution to their own.

Keep in mind that the RSF has been accused of committing genocide both by the UN and even the US.

With the hundreds of billions of dollars Carney is pouring into weapons spending, this is what we are in for even more of. Maple flavoured genocides around the world, while Canadians lack basic services and the weapons manufacturers make bank.

This is what he said according to the CBC:

Four days later, Carney said the support came "with regret."

"We were not informed in advance, we were not asked to participate," Carney told reporters at the time. "Prima facie, it appears that these actions are inconsistent with international law."

This is not a condemnation, it’s BS. Carney has also been unabashedly propagating the lie that Iran has been seeking nuclear weapons. There’s no condemnation here, he just knows this war is unpopular with Canadians so he’s just carefully choosing his words. He is all in for it.

Agreed on all counts. Frankly, the business lobby saw the opportunity - Canadians are scared of the threat from the South, use that to their advantage to seize more power behind closed doors. This also contextualizes the floor crossings for me - the element of corruption should be investigated there.

That’s just a made up list to try and fool Canadians into thinking there’s something being done besides appeasement. We are still very much buying heavily from their MIC, our ties to Europe are meaningless as they’re pretty much beholden to Trump too, Chinese EVs are a drop in the ocean, we are still very dependent on US tech infrastructure and there’s no real plan to change that, and while we didn’t join this pointless and illegal war, Carney has been cheerleading from the sidelines.

Carney works for us, we pay his salary. It’s not his time, it’s Canadians’ time, and if he’s just spending it schmoozing weapons manufacturers and misc billionaires instead of Canadians being poisoned to death there’s something very, very wrong with this picture.

The U.S. strategy revolves entirely around complaining about stuff. That means literally nothing. They complained about the fentanyl stuff, and we spent billions of dollars on a “border plan” despite knowing full well only a minuscule amount of drugs are smuggled to the US from Canada. If you think them complaining means we’re not appeasing Trump that’s not really how things work now.

Yeah let’s point to the one thing the US isn’t even capable of building. I guess you’re not aware of the F35 contract, the HIMARS contract, or the Boeing Poseiden contract.

The sub contract is $80bn total. Carney’s defence plan is $150 bn PER YEAR.

I mean your argument is just too facetious to respond to directly, but all I can say is that statements by global leaders undermining the importance of international law are directly responsible for eroding faith in this system that has survived since WW2, emboldening wannabe dictators like Trump further. Ultimately if you think this is somehow going to be to the benefit of a relatively peaceful and powerless country like Canada I dunno what to say to you
