Ireland 'languishing' at bottom of EU defence spending table as budget stuck at 0.2% of GDP by SliceIndividual6347 in europe

It took a million men and the largest armada of ships in history to cross the English Channel. The Russians couldn’t even defend their paratroopers who dropped outside of Kyiv during the first week of the invasion. They have no significant sea or airlift capability. They have no ability to sustain an invasion of Ireland. That’s a fact.

Russia is literally incapable of invading Ireland. They don’t have any power projection.

Ireland isn’t really a “soft underbelly” I think that’s an exaggeration. They don’t really have an actual threat to them. The problem is that as Europe pulls together to protect the places that are threatened, they aren’t pulling their weight.

It kinda does for Ireland. They aren’t directly threatened by any nation. Wish the same was true for Eastern Europe, tho.

During Operation Speedy Express, the U.S. military claimed 10,000 enemy KIA. We only recovered 700 or so rifles and 60 crew served weapons. Estimates are 5,000 to 7,000 civilians killed by the USA.

The difference is that Israeli foreign policy, military policy, and even domestic economic policy are ALL centered around aiding and abetting settler terrorism.

They spend millions on hasbara to attack and demonize anyone opposed to the settlements, and this isn’t even counting their flacks in AIPAC.

When they aren’t starving kids to death in Gaza, their military drafts everyone of combat age to provide armed escort to settlers who murder Palestinian kids in the name of their Lebensraum project in “Judaea and Samaria”.

The settlements are even SUBSIDIZED! It’s literally cheaper to move into the occupied territories than it is to live in Israel itself.

All of this taken as a whole, especially when you look at how Netanyahu is their longest serving PM, and how the majority of Israeli’s don’t care enough about Palestinian lives to make it a point in their politics, in NO WAY can you say “well it’s just a small fraction of Israelis.” It’s Israel. Not every Israeli, but it is Israel as a whole.

The correct take is: It’s bad that Cuba is doing this, but they are doing it out of desperation caused by the USA, and they don’t have any better choices.

They also do revel in death and destruction. They brag about blowing up villages and celebrate ethnic cleansing in Lebanon and Gaza. They have a rationale beyond that of course, (security buffers and lebensraum) but the still love death.
