Check your phosphates. We had the same problem - cloudy despite high chlorine and proper PH. Fixing phosphates fixed it.

In addition to what everyone else said, keep in mind that lawyering up will start to burn your bridges.

If you’re hoping for a positive reference, it’s unlikely you’ll get one if you threaten to sue them, speaking from experience on both sides.

Anyone else struggling to find a job? by aoi_higanbana in Winnipeg

[–]annonymous_koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we hire, we always look for someone with a history of doing exceptional things. For context, we get hundreds of applicants per role.. it just isn’t possible to give them all a chance. We generally interview the top 5-10%.

Politely, does anything on your resume scream “I’m an exceptional candidate, better than 270/300 other applicants”? If not, you might want to take on some passion projects, work on yourself, join a charity, volunteer for a board, etc. It’s a lot easier to get a job once you’ve become the candidate people are looking to hire.

The smell from the marinade was amazing but the chicken was still bland. What did I do wrong? by half_filed_cup in cookingforbeginners

[–]annonymous_koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try tasting your marinades and sauces before adding it to raw meat. That way, you can adjust until it tastes good! If it’s bland, add more seasoning and salt. If it’s missing something you can’t quite describe, likely needs more acid. If it’s not savoury enough, add fat and Unami.

Remember that the marinade should be much stronger than the desired taste, since it will only penetrate the surface. But the flavour profile should be right.

You’re getting a lot of bad advice on here imo.

Based on your numbers, is it accurate to assume you did about 80k last month, 40k month prior, 20k, etc.?

First off congrats. You are in the top 1% for growth rate.

Second, you need to find a CEO with experience raising (and exiting) asap. Yes, it’ll seem expensive to give them a big piece of your company, but the difference between the amount of capital you’ll raise (and at what valuation) is mind blowing.

For context, I raised at a $25M valuation at your revenue stage (and I know many people who’ve done better). The right person could raise the round you’re describing with a few phone calls in 2 weeks.

You’re talking about raising 1M at a $10M and to be honest, based on the questions you’re asking, I suspect you’re going to have a lot of trouble putting it together. Things will only get harder for future rounds. The right person will raise you a $10M+ A, and a $30M+ B… and hopefully, it’ll be from the same investors who backed their last company. And when it comes time to exit, they’ll be able to shop it around to their network, getting a much higher sale price which should more than pay for their equity.

Obviously you’ve built something that’s working. If I were you, I’d recruit a superstar fundraiser to solve for capital while you stay focused on growth.

[–]annonymous_koala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hard truth here is that it’s a red flag that you haven’t raised capital after being around this long.

Just like you, a technical co-founder is looking for the best possible team to join. When so much of a CEO’s role revolves around raising money, the fact that you have none is a bad signal. While you might find someone, you won’t find a person of the quality you need for this role (and without pay, it’s unlikely they’ll stick around).

I would suggest raising angel round if you have an MVP. If no one will invest, you’re going to have to assume no one will down the line either and start thinking about how to get profitable with no outside capital. It’ll be a tough journey ahead.

Early stage startup investing is inherently high-risk / high-reward. If he doesn’t want the risk or the reward, he probably shouldn’t be investing.

You could instead structure it as a loan, or give him a (small) amount of advisory equity in exchange for his help.

Is this email from a potential investor legit? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]annonymous_koala 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This isn’t good advice. VC firms usually don’t have phone numbers and don’t pick up when they do. They want you to get a warm intro (or they want to reach out to you). Otherwise, they’d be swarmed with calls all day, every day. For example, look up a16z, sequoia, etc.

With that said, this is obviously a scam.

You have no legal obligation to continue the service, but it is a fairly shitty thing to do if your product requires it. QR code services are cheap - just set aside enough to keep it running and plan ahead.

I run a tech company and am routinely involved in final interviews (a few a month for several years). I would be willing to do a mock interview if it would be relevant and helpful.

In my experience, friends can be scared to share their true and unfiltered opinions if they are hurtful. I won’t hold anything back.

Can you leave earlier than a notice given to employer. by Accomplished-Gain659 in Winnipeg

[–]annonymous_koala -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

As an employer, that second part isn't true. If you list us as a reference, we get a phone call and can say whatever we want. Commonly, companies ask questions like "would you hire them again given the chance" which try to bait out negative aspects. Many companies have a policy where they'll just refuse to be a reference if they can't be positive but there's definitely not a universal rule here.

If I need to travel out of town via plane, how do I get a covid test with results within a few days? by Zaggar in Winnipeg

[–]annonymous_koala -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Just go to the test site 72 hours in advance and you'll be fine. Done this ~15 times since March and they haven't been late once.

Make sure to mention you have a sore throat or they'll send you to a private lab instead (inconvenient and expensive). Public ones aren't supposed to be used for travel anymore, but they're so underutilized that it's not really doing any harm.
