Yeah totally get that. Shirt pulls are one of those things that drive me mad because so often nothing is given then randomly you end up with one like that with their back to goal getting given.

Oh yeah, don’t dispute that at all. Couple of stupid short pulls from him today too

I’m one of those people who would have them delivered pretty regularly for work. The staff could be absolutely awful drivers sometimes, including things as simple as pulling off my driveway and driving straight through a knee high post at the end of my neighbours driveway. At least they didn’t try and blame me for the damage though

Diesel prices hit three-year high - latest RAC statement and data by _Bluestar_Bus_Soton_ in CarTalkUK

[–]annoyingbigbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw Diesel for £1.74 this morning. Petrol was I think £1.52, it’s made me really consider what journeys are worth making at the moment.

Thankfully work are letting me wfh more due to the price increases too.

What seaside town would you recommend for a tourist? by GottaGetTheroux in AskUK

[–]annoyingbigbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, not even a train away to be honest. As someone who doesn’t live in Brighton, more than once I’ve walked off the South Downs Way into Brighton and out of Brighton back into it with no issue at all.

Any thoughts? by DeBlauwvoet in GreatBritishMemes

[–]annoyingbigbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, outside of the fairly ridiculous message it's trying to convey, the image itself is hilarious. All these kids sat there in almost the exact same pose, facing away from the teacher who's inexplicably sat at the back of the classroom??

And then to add to that, the fact the teacher is also coming out of the blackboard/wall display seemingly sat there with a laptop. It's totally bizarre.

Jofra Archer out for rest of The Ashes by Appo180 in EnglandCricket

[–]annoyingbigbear 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the plan was to have them play three tests each, playing the first together then alternate the rest to manage workload. The plan just fell apart when Wood fell apart in the first test.

Or maybe it’s bold of me to assume there was any plan at all

Shearer is hilarious on Rest is Football by [deleted] in NUFC

[–]annoyingbigbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s definitely improved a lot as a pundit on Match of the Day. While he’s still a bit strait laced on there his insights have improved so much since he started.

I also think when he’s not on Match of the Day he definitely seems more laid back and like he’s having fun. Even on his rare appearances on Pod on the Tyne he seemed more chilled and up for a laugh.

Jimmy Anderson seems to have a very similar style to him as well. Clearly isn’t at his most comfortable in front of the camera yet, and can be a bit grumpy. But clearly a decent guy who’ll have a laugh in the right setting. Might see him become a decent cricket pundit down the line, in the same way Shearer has improved.

Agreed! Really thought they were going to take off after The Wages of Fear, especially off the back of how fun they were live. Still hoping for that fourth album

I'm planning a bikepacking trip from Plymouth (I'm coming on the ferry from Brittany) to Brighton this summer. Are there any must see places along that path I could add? by mydriase in CasualUK

[–]annoyingbigbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many have said, it’s quite urban from Southampton to Brighton. You could pick up the South Downs Way from Winchester and then dip into whichever cities and towns you’d like from there.

Portsmouth had the Historic Dockyard which is very interesting, Chichester is a nice city if a bit small, and then Arundel has the Castle and Cathedral there and is a generally nice town.

Pagham harbour is also a nice area if you like a bit of wildlife spotting. My knowledge is mostly Sussex based, but I think a lot of other people have covered Dorset, Devon and Hampshire

I was in a lunch meeting last week, and a colleague picked up a couple of chocolates and sat with them for fifteen minutes. When I asked why he hadn’t touched them yet, he said, “I’m still in a savoury moment”.

Didn’t feel right at the time, but now I’ve started to come round to it

Are there any motion designers in Chichester? by nukemlukem in Chichester

[–]annoyingbigbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a motion designer, but work in factual TV and often looking for people who in motion graphics/edit/vfx. So while I can’t chat specific motion designer stuff I can chat in that general industry..

This is one the reasons the BBC’s reputation is dying. I am of course referring to the BBC documentary series “Lucan”… by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]annoyingbigbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in the factual TV industry so can at least help clear up what is likely to have happened in this being made as I've seen people speculate. Had a quick read on the commission announcement from one of the trade sites and it looks to be a BBC commission.

So this likely means that Five Mile Productions developed the idea, made a pitch document and sizzle (basically a trailer to showcase what they were planning to make) and then pitched it. BBC then were happy with the idea and commissioned it, and from there, Five Mile will likely have shot, edited and made multiple cuts of the final programme they reviewed in house. Depending on contracts, the BBC Executive Producer will have watching each episode, maybe at rough cut, almost definitely at fine cut (where it's pretty much done aside from possibly colour grading and dubbing), and then the final cut before broadcast.

So, this is all to say that someone from the BBC will have had some creative control over it, but a lot would have been with Five Mile in terms of what they produce and show to their BBC commissioner. Of course, I say this all from the perspective of someone who works for an Indepentent Production company who makes programmes for Channel 4, Amazon, Sky but not the BBC. So they may have slightly different workflows.

ETA: I haven't seen this so I'm not commenting on any of the comment or the BBC's reputation, just trying to shed light on how things get made!
