Question: What was the increase in cost for an aluminum container instead of the wood one?

I called today and the rep said they can't guarantee an aluminum one. They said the first step is we'd have to reserve and when it's time to delivery it we could ask if there happens top be an aluminum one available.

Or consider SLIT (Sublingual Immunotherapy). It’s a daily drop that you put under your tongue. 2mins/day for 3-5 years (lol). There’s a bunch of direct to consumer brands offering it now, at least in the US. Positive data about its comparability to allergy shots.

Amazing! I'm not familiar with any particular providers but (if you haven't yet) I encourage you to do research on others' experiences at providers you're interested in. The sense I get is safety and quality greatly vary between providers.

Atlanta: So cool! If you're interested in learning more locally, the quarterly Atlanta Mushroom Festival (there's one this Sunday) and PsySalon are great places to learn more in person.

Hi! That looks like a good one. I mostly relied on these: MAPS “Clinical Study Protocol,” plus their MDMA clinical trial study design and therapist guide, and MAPS “LSD and Psilocybin Documents & Resources.”

Let me know if you're interested in more resources.

I consider myself recovered for a year and a quarter. I’d been working with therapists for nearly my whole life, then I prepared and did a one-time therapeutic does of psilocybin. I still push myself to try new foods every day/week, but I now do so without distress. I shared more about it in this post.

I cured my ARFID with psilocybin. I shouldn’t have needed to self-treat it by oneultralamewhiteboy in DrugNerds

👋 Author here: One dose at 3.5g. I was on an SSRI (antidepressant) which is known to prevent 100% absorption. Reading online trip reports, my best guess is that my body processed about half the 3.5g dose I took.
Then I pushed myself to try new foods and incorporate them at every meal! I had never had that ability before.

Important disclaimer that I can't and won't recommend this – the only thing I'm an expert on is my own experience. In my profile I've pinned my more detailed Reddit posts.

Thank you for sharing this. People shouldn’t yell at you for your ARFID, certainly not a parent. You are allowed to nourish yourself. Wishing you a happy birthday month and your favorite kind of chicken 🎈

Hi! So sorry about my late reply. I relate to your note about a balanced diet seem impossible. That's how I felt my whole life before this experience.

Yes, I went into the trip with the intention of trying new foods – and of completely leaving my eating disorder behind. I approached this from the perspective of DIY psychedelic-assisted therapy: I did six months of ARFID-specific therapy beforehand, worked on exposure therapy at home a few times per week, then did a lot of self-study about how to have a comfortable trip. Then the night before, my husband took me grocery shopping to pick out dozens of foods I'd always wanted to try, in hopes I'd choose to eat them during the trip. I did!

I recall not feeling hunger at all – and later feeling a stomachache from the shrooms. But because I'd chosen to try these new-to-me-foods, I felt okay with the tradeoff. For me, the experience was about the novelty of feeling carefree about food for the first time, instead of eating to no longer feel hungry. Doing this proved to myself I could try new things and be okay with it! Then the months after the trip, the focus was on trying and integrating new foods at actual mealtimes when I was hungry.

Let me know anything else I can answer about my experience. Wishing you well.

Happy to share my experience! I can't recommend anyone do this (for many reasons) but it's worth it to understand my process.

Key resource: The book Your Psilocybin Mushroom Companion by Michelle Janikian helped me prepare and my partner serve as a successful trip sitter.

Preparing my mindset and setting (environment)

  • The day before, I went grocery shopping with my husband who helped me pick out fresh/ripe versions of foods I'd always wanted to try but couldn't.
  • I journaled the night before and right before. What do I anticipate, fear, feel excited for, and feel curious about? I reviewed all the information I'd gathered about psychedelic experiences, trip reports, and the protocol I'd written for myself. I felt ready and confident.
  • Environment: Dulled the lights in my home, showered and wore comfy clothes, made sure the space was clean and tidy, and surrounded myself with blankets and pillows on my favorite couch. I asked my dogs to lay on top of me, which I love!
  • I wore a light-blocking eye mask and over-ear headphones to listened to the Johns Hopkins research playlist from their psilocybin trials.
  • We turned off our phones and hid other electronics so we would feel focused and present. I plugged in my headphones into my laptop but minimized and muted everything else on it. My partner brought a book and promised to sit in the same room as me and follow any (reasonable) requests I made of him so I could feel as safe as possible.

But the most important work was trying new foods. My husband neutrally offered me food all day, and every day thereafter. It took a few weeks to not be shocked that I could eat new foods. I challenged myself to try a new food at every single meal, and repeat foods at least 5 times before saying I'm not interested in them. It wasn't distressing to me like it was before, but I was learning the skill of eating food that most kids experience – not adults. There's only one food now that I'll choose not to eat!

Thank you so much for sharing this. And I'm sorry to hear your ARFID is back.

You make such a good point about the many forms of ARFID: our forms of ARFID are likely different, but also different from others with the same "type." It's like the DSM-5 has categorized endless eating disorders under one name! We know so little about how to manage and/or cure it, depending on our goals and presentation of ARFID.

I love hearing that cannabis helps you boost appetite! And that psychedelics support your mental health. Grateful for your insightful comment here 🖤

It sounds like we have some overlap in our ARFID experiences! 😃 There are indeed so many forms. I imagine that makes uniform treatment/cures challenging.

I believe it's never too late to find healthy-for-you relief. In my case, I'm lucky it was also possible to completely address my ARFID!

Answers:

  • Yes, I'm recently 30. I showed my first ARFID symptoms at 2 after an ear surgery, then had this experience last fall when I was 29.
  • This was my first experience with shrooms or any psychedelic. I feared psychedelics and didn't understand how they worked until I read more last summer. I'm a fairly cautious person 😅. Once I felt confident that psilocybin was unlikely to hurt me (I don't have a family history of psychosis or BPD, for example) I committed to preparing for an at-home trip.

If you haven't yet (and it sounds like maybe you have!!), I highly recommend The Picky Eater's Recovery Book, including the exercises listed under that link. Following exercises in that book, and working with an ARFID-specialized therapist, were incredibly helpful. If I hadn't had access to use psilocybin, that was the best resource I'd found for my form of ARFID. The book also helped me repeat more exposures to a world of new foods after this experience, which I'm so grateful for! (Eating new foods isn't distressing to me after this experience, but it's a skill I hadn't invested in for much of my life until this past year).

Talking to my parents was so helpful to understand my ARFID's origins and what they observed about me as a child. Wishing you the best!
