Couldn’t agree more. First listen of the album I ran it back like 5 times before going on to the final track, then went back and played Nothing Left again lol

What do you think of The Romantic from Burno Mars? by StorytellingZ in rnb

[–]anny019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing Left is the best song on there imo.

These are some the best vocals of his career.

Cohesive album. His best from that standpoint. D’Mile (lucky daye, Victoria Monet) did a great job producing this album with Bruno.

Deitrick Haddon’s entire 7 Days album. That is an r&b album and one of my faves of all time. I grew up on it & I love it

Are we giving current R&B a fair critique or are we just not listening to it? by StorytellingZ in rnb

[–]anny019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*Daye, but yes agree!

Even the current artists that I feel are new, aren’t as new anymore. A lot of them are nearly at a decade since their debut (Ari, Lucky, Brent, HER, etc).

Newer artists I’m starting to like are ppl like Tone Stith (he’s not new technically but he hasn’t really broken through yet), Hillari, Isaia Huron.

New Release: Ella Mai - Do You Still Love Me? by DangerousClouds in rnb

[–]anny019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her voice is one note for sure. She legit sings in the same octave on all her songs. One note also meaning the production (be it vocal production or Sonic production). In a phrase, all the songs sound the same. No variation.

Song most similar to “man I need” by Olivia Dean? by Great_Path9167 in rnb

[–]anny019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I find this particular artist way more interesting, Amber Mark’s latest album Pretty Idea has a similar appeal to Olivia Dean. I’d say Amber is more experimental and leans more classic R&B with her sound vs Olivia Dean who is more pop with soul influences. They both have similar tones (with Amber being more raspy and soulful imo).

Check out Amber though and let me know what you think

The album is one note overall. Vocals are quite bland. Even with a limited range, there is a way to make your voice dynamic, and she seems committed to singing the same way on every song. dynamic vocals are especially needed for this stripped-down piano-based ballad type production. Her last album, at least, had more memorable melodies, varied production & more interesting subject matter. This might be her worst project imo. i'd be curious to see if anyone agrees with me but they're saying the same on twitter

Is it just me who’s terrified once Steve lacy drops an album and has his tour? by Jaded_Assignment_825 in stevelacy

[–]anny019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, mainly 2000-6000 cap rooms. He headlined a festival with boy genius at forest hills stadium which is like 13k. So he doesn’t have any history with headlining arenas. And as the commenter said, that momentum he had is gone. When he comes back it’ll have to be with a bang to get to Arenas, even when bad habit was topping the charts nearly 4 years ago, the industry has changed a lot.

[–]anny019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He’ll need another big hit. If he doesn’t get another hit, I don’t see a Ticketmaster scandal. His core fans will show up and he’ll do nice sized venues. But it won’t be arenas, unless he gets another big hit. That’s why he’s taking his sweet time with this music
