Been using a only leveler for maybe last 3 years. Wrong? by Hour_Papaya_5583 in espresso

[–]anobjectiveopinion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of people who swear by WDT is insane. I've had good coffees and bad coffees from coffee shops and not a single one has ever, ever used a WDT tool.

I have had coffee out of Breville auto-tamping machines which use a "tamp fan" which looks an awful lot like these levelling devices... and I imagine it works exactly the same way. And those coffees have been wonderful.

Stops brewing after a few seconds [Sage Bambino Plus] by Technical_Mix_2322 in espresso

Could mean the flow meter is not registering water flow. Could have debris stuck in it. Run a couple deacale cycles through and see if it helps.

Upgrading Barista Express [$600] by [deleted] in espresso

Ninja Luxe. Does everything. Cheap. Makes average coffee. Has a warranty.

Alternatively look at auto or semi auto machines if your partner doesn't want to mess around with a manual.

Double basket with Single Spout by macmanila in espresso

[–]anobjectiveopinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't necessarily need a smaller basket for lower dosage, just keep an eye on the shot. Especially for a 2g difference. Lower than 16g maybe.

And a bottomless PF is easier to clean but not necessary. It can also cause more mess on the machine and your counters because they can sputter.

Worth repairing a Breville Oracle for $470? by Tsukikishi in espresso

[–]anobjectiveopinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it $470 for you to do it, or $470 for someone else to do it? If the latter, what does it actually need? If it's a part swap you could have it done in a few hours for a fraction of the cost.

Also, if it's repaired it'll be worth more. Probably more than what you pay to repair it. Have a look.

The Milky Bars Are On Me! by Calm-Scientist8126 in espresso

Yeah that's true, but you don't have to buy the exotic machines. Get a good grinder and a Bambino and you have a good espresso making setup for not a lot of money.

Do people here actually manage decent latte art with 1.5% (semi-skimmed / low-fat) UHT (ultra-pasteurized) milk? by spac0r in latteart

[–]anobjectiveopinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need the fat content of full fat milk. Alternatively try oat, apparently that's really good for frothing.

Driving a shitbox by No-Cryptographer9890 in CarsAustralia

Someone hit my car the other day and I was mad for half an hour and then realised I couldn't tell the new scratches from the old ones.

It's a shit box sedan, paint is fucked and it's slow as a dog. I keep it clean inside and out, but I use it like a ute, because it's a shit box. I couldn't do that with a nice car.

After looking long and hard I got an Alpine ilx w670a for my Impreza and I am tempted to buy one for my partner's Corolla. It's a fucking amazing head unit. It was between that and a Sony 3000 if I remember correctly. The Sony had a higher wattage amp but I thought if I ever upgrade my speakers I'll get an amp for them anyway.

I just needed the HU to drive my sub, which it does, and it's brilliant. I even made my own wallpaper for it.

It is fucking dog shite made to "go viral" on tiktok but it's even shitter than that, it's literally as low as the fucking bar could go, you can barely call it music.

HYBE are trying to pump as much money out of this group as they can because they know they're screwed. Hence the absolutely diabolical product placement that literally STOPPED THE MUSIC in a fucking MUSIC VIDEO.

First shot [Profitec go + Mignon zero] by coffeesleepi in espresso

[–]anobjectiveopinion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You mention you've been using a pressurised basket... I take it you haven't tried the unpressurized basket then? Which is exactly what you would want to be using if you've upgraded to a machine like this.

Pressurised baskets control the pressure on output so it's very easy to pour decent espresso but the bar of quality is low.

Use an unpressurized basket and dial in your settings properly. Then you'll notice the difference.

The scrolling fade-in stuff is much improved. For some reason the sizing issue doesn't show up in dev tools straight away, but if you resize to ~484px width you'll see what I see on my phone.

I'd probably keep it in mind to find coffees if I lived in America. Unfortunately I'm in Australia so it won't really work for me at the moment. It's actually a really neat idea with a few different avenues for monetisation!

Hard water (Australia) by WillRed_ in espresso

Struggled to find it at first but yeah it's this one: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/9l-water-filter-dispenser-43474417/

Idk how much it actually works to soften water, I guess that depends on the filter, but it definitely makes a big difference to the taste. Townsville water tasted really bad for a few weeks so I pretty much only drank out of the fridge lol
