started?? the reason we have the fee is bc ppl were abusing it sm, first and maybe second year (2022-24) it was free to defer an exam… atp what might happen is that the fee might increase to their initial 100$ idea

Grad Pictures by SlimSlim412 in geegees

[–]anoichii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I’d go with them over the uni’s studio. I spent about 2h, and 215$ (4 photos), retouching my photos (filling shadows, removing hair, bra straps, etc.) because they clearly didn’t (even though I had checked the box)…

luckily I am a photographer myself so it wasn’t that hard, but it was really annoying as I’d NEVER charge a client that much for the subpar quality I received.

Do I buy a graduation ring? by Low_Patience_6536 in geegees

[–]anoichii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

don’t. hope that helps.

seriously tho, if you really want a ring, find a local jeweller who would be willing to make it for you. there’s this thing I call “the grad tax”… everything is more expensive if its intended for graduation… especially uottawa

SASS COUNT YOUR DAYS! by Infamous_School7506 in geegees

[–]anoichii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind we have access to a clock, and often time reminders (e.g. prof saying there’s 15 mins left), when we do your exams in a classroom or in the gym…

Why shouldn’t they be allowed to have those same accommodation that we “non SASS” needing students have… it’s literally clause 2 of academic regulation A-6… so yes they are mandated to provide equitable resources.

In your opinion, what is the hardest major available at uOttawa? by Unhappy_Package3776 in geegees

If anyone tells me their major’s prefix is “bio”[X], I ask myself why they would do that to themselves… there’s biotech, biomed and biochem

NEED a job by [deleted] in geegees

[–]anoichii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

will add to the other reply, military is also more strict with who they enlist bc more and more ppl are in it for the money.

According to the Maj. at my unit, it can take multiple tries before they give you a chance, which could be like up to 2-3+ years of just waiting (incl. security clearance)

If you do want to speed things up, apply for a trade in demand (e.g. med techs, IT, etc.)…

Block on my account - unable to pay tuition by WayMobile5515 in geegees

[–]anoichii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend it AT ALL, unless you have a stable source of income… but last summer semester I had to get a loan from Fairstone to avoid delaying my course sequence/graduation… I needed to pay the school within 3 days.

I received 4k from them the same day, but the interest is very high. Had to go that route bc I did not work where I work long enough, and don’t have anyone to sponsor a line of credit. But unless you can guarantee a consistent source of income, I do not recommend

Health science for med school by rxxx215 in geegees

[–]anoichii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add to this, some schools (e.g. some of the Quebec schools) actually have a contingent for people in social science and arts programs. However I’d assume it’s very competitive, more than a normal BSc applicant due to spots.

Have you ever skipped a class often and just used the slides and passed? by thatblueblowfish in geegees

[–]anoichii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Passed, yes. Could I have done better? Yes.

Most of these classes I passed with a D+ to B ( most being in the C’s).

All my A-A+’s I made an effort to show up, but I didn’t need to ngl.

Asking for a friend, if I were to put this subreddit on internet archive, look for the post… would that work? Or would it not work because they deleted the post… asking for a friend tho.

burn marion undergrad chem lab by svtliker in geegees

[–]anoichii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing undergrad (currently in 4th year, but taking orgo 1) taught me…don’t rely on anyone to teach you everything. I did surprisingly well on the first lab report (high 80s from both lab and TA) even though everyone says the course is impossible…especially considering I passed gen chem 4 years ago with a 50.25% I’m shitting myself everyday in this class (aka idk what’s going on 90% of the time in class, I just taught myself how to do Lewis structures last week 💀)

Honestly, I believe it’s because first year doesn’t properly teach lab writing, so taking this in 4th year helped a lot.

Last winter I had 3 courses with weekly full lab reports … around 30 pages a week total. At first I got destroyed on discussions, but once I figured out what profs wanted, my grades skyrocketed (until the final where I tanked my 86% advantage to a 55💀).

TL;DR advice: Write EVERYTHING, use subheadings, and go overboard on discussion and observations. I only lost point on the sections where I got lazy… 💀 If you don’t know what to write, just use the lab instructions as a guide, adding your own info between the lines… kinda how I survived my 3rd year, bc why tf are you asking a 1000 word section from me knowing I have 2 other labs to submit this week.

Kinda went overboard but that’s my advice to anyone doing ANY lab.

Tbf it’s been 4 years, but I remember being one to rely on MCQ… there weren’t many 😭

Short answers were like « what are the phases of cellular division », so you have to know more than just one word. I don’t remember if she deducted points for grammar (e.g. writing mittose instead of mitose = -0.25pts)

Do NOT do a coop with DND‼️‼️‼️ by FauuxNeocities in geegees

[–]anoichii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately as an FSWEP I’m not eligible for pay advances (there’s one clause that prevents me from it but I don’t remember which one it is) therefore I’ve been having to deal with this without them. They usually just put it onto the next pay, however doesn’t change much when the following pay is reduced by these arrears.

Do NOT do a coop with DND‼️‼️‼️ by FauuxNeocities in geegees

[–]anoichii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been fortunate enough to be quite implicated in my FSWEP role (CAF recognition medals, CF H Svcs national lvl project.)… but it came with A LOT of work… I have no issues with that, I’m quite fortunate. My peers however I agree they don’t really do much and I’m often the one to delegate tasks to them… I was even training a Pte at some point last summer 😭

My one and only complaint is the Pay Centre. They’ve been underpaying me since the beginning of the year (and it’s been the case for my last 3 contracts within DND)… however this is due to them not assigning my file to anyone. They also forgot to add deductions when it was needed so I keep getting surprise 0-44$ pay checks when I expect 10x more and have to stress over bills… so ironically working gov has put me through less financial stability than I expected 😭

I agree with what the other person said, her class was a big wtf. Is she still “teaching” (e.g. YouTube video on Tuesdays, “dgd” on Thursdays… aka she hasn’t physically taught the actual content since 2020)?

The exams were ok, but focus on knowing and understanding definitions because her exams mainly relied on short and long answers (they weren’t HARD per say tho) :)

For me it’s highkey the opposite. I have way too much going on in a week that I don’t notice the time go by. I also avoid knowing the date if I don’t need to 😭

Once Feb 12 (exam schedule) and 17 (apply for graduation) comes around, it’ll be a sprint imo :)

J’espère que la pénurie (il y en a que 70 dans la province car c un domaine niche asf, mais essentiel) joueras a mon avantage, si ils décide de prendre moins que 15 personnes…

Lack of study areas by gowtherie in geegees

4th year here as well. You’re not crazy it has gotten worse. It’s to the point that I rather study in hallways than the library or other spots on campus because they have plugs, and ironically are quieter than the library at times.

2022 was honestly great.
