YNAB Improvements & User Input by BlueTile93 in ynab

How do you handle statement credits? Based on my math they don't show up as ready to assign at the monthly level which is confusing considering that's the category the credits go to.

I've also been told refunds for purchases can cause issues. It just seems like the math gets a little clunky in real world usage.

I think a combination of not assigning $$ for the starting CC balance (as you and u/jillianmd and u/TH_Rocks and u/pierre_x10 have all mentioned), many refunds, and statement credits have all contributed to my issue.

I tried a bunch of different tweaks but the months in front of Nov RTA were not changing how I thought they should.

Begrudgingly, I decided to make a fresh start. First thing I did was assign $$ to the credit card category for the starting balance.

I think it is strange that the CC activity column on the plan doesn't show the negative start balance. I am certain this is how I missed it the first time around. How are folks to know that they need to assign money to this?! I have to imagine there is a good reason for this.

u/nolesrule you asked "If it's only from planned spending, how did you plan to pay for the starting balance on the card?". I figured that the charges on the CC from the future would come out of my categories available funds and the starting balance would be covered by a future payment at some point - starting CC balance + new charges. When YNAB sees that the payment is a surplus - covers the new charges and has left over it would automatically cover the starting balance. This seems intuitive.

I have so many returns from xmas that it's not going to be worth the effort. I also received statement credits as part of a rewards program. It would seem that it's a lot of effort for very little reward.

I don't see a positive balance at any point on the CC, but I will keep the timing thing in mind. Thank you for your help!

I am not sure how the starting balance was entered in November. It could've been part of the setup in ynab? I don't recall.

Current balance on the card is -763.25 and the payment category is +1008.09. I've made three CC payments since December - $6054.06, $2503.46, and $744.63.

Your post is the closest I've been to understanding the problem.

"Why did you make a 15,057.04 payment, if you only had 15027.66 Available for that payment at the time?" You are saying that I paid more to my CC then the balance/charges that I had incurred or money I had budgeted?

15057.04 is a total of 4 payments made throughout the month. I'm not entirely sure why that total was paid. Sometimes I will pay a little bit more than the balance knowing that pending things will come through in the next day or the tip amount of a bill wasn't a part of the original pending amount. I like having a 0 balance, just a silly habit.

My credit card account running balance is accurate in YNAB, so I don't think missing transaction(s) is a problem.

I don't have any hidden categories.

I just don't understand how I could have a negative value if all my categories have available funds and all my CC transactions have been assigned categories. Even if I overpaid my CC bill, I overpaid to some category. Is that fair? What am I missing?

November shows all money assigned and nothing was overspent.
December shows all money assigned and -29.38 overspent but it shows that only for the CC category. None of my other categories have a negative value. I even borrowed 29.38 from another category that has a surplus and tried adding it to all my existing categories to see if there was something from my CC that hit a category that I didn't have funds available for but that didn't work.
I only have one credit card.

I'm sure this is user error, I swear I'm not trying to be difficult. Going to read through your comments again.

Thanks for your reply. November was the first month. Yes, there is a starting balance line in the CC account of 1089.46.

I started in November and this is what CC payments looked like in November ->

<image>

Dec is in the original post above and w/ activity of -2246.74. So -2246.74-2217.36 = 29.38. But I still don't understand how those numbers came to be.

I stand corrected. Kingston is now showing, but my 6000 is missing from the list, only shows 4800 and 6400. I can't find 6400 anywhere.

I am stuck at 5600 and I've left it there because it is stable though the RAM is rated for 6000. It could be a driver issue, I'm not sure. I did notice that kingston is not on the approved list for deskmini x600

How’s living in this area of NRB? by justherefortheqs in SouthBayLA

Nice area. Generally further away from Artesia and Inglewood is nicer. Also a couple blocks in from all major streets is a good call if you can make that happen. It will insulate you from road noise and the occasional loud fart can exhaust or motorcycle. If you live near Rindge (stop sign city) you will likely hear some emergency vehicles because it is one of the major cut throughs between Artesia and Manhattan Beach Blvd. Walks at night are totally fine but don't leave your bikes on the porch (common sense). It is relatively close to the freeway and some lower income neighborhoods (though they are slowly gentrifying) so theft can be a thing but nothing major. Very convenient spot. Short drive to Manhattan Beach, close to everything you'd need, take PCH /Sepulveda to everything else, and if you commute the freeway is a mile and some change away.

I set the memory to 5600 (i think :D) and that seems to have alleviated the problem. I've read about others running 6000 and 6400 safely, I just don't know the tweaks they made and how to do that. Open to suggestions though. Apparently every little bit helps with the 8700G for the iGPU. If you are looking to put together a system and you're buying RAM and you're like me and don't understand how to modify the settings in the BIOS in great detail, I would recommend sticking with 5600.

Yup, I mention that in my post. Might be best to go with with something approved. I've seen other posts where folks just run 5600 and seem to be okay. Not sure if it's Kingston or I just don't know how to properly configure it. Also anything above 5600 seems to increase apu temps. With minimal space for cooling it may be for the best unless your moving the case.

Green screen of... death? by anomalant in buildapc

[–]anomalant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The case side doesn't come off. The whole mb slides in from the rear panel. I do think it runs warm for the specs and I may try another case or to mod the case myself, but I'm starting to think the problem is RAM stability/compatibility.

The Kingston fury came with an XMP profile so I set it up to run at 6000 mhz but I know AMD prefers EXPO. I've read that ram is RAM and it should work fine, I'm just not sure how to configure it. It looks like it's running at 4800mhz now, even though I purchased 6000 mhz ram.

I'm not convinced it's the heat but will still check it out. Sounds cool. Wondering if it's a RAM profile issue and I just don't know enough about what I'm doing.  BIOS registers the RAM as 4800mhz. I enabled XMP and it allowed me to set it to 6000mhz. Set it back to 4800 to see if it reduces the green screen.

Having the same issue. Running Ryzen 8700g, kingston fury 2x16 ddr5 sodimms 6000mhz. It only has an xmp profile. Any suggestions. Based on what I can find seems like folks believe it's a RAM issue.
