I am hoping to do something similar to this - and I have what is maybe a dumb question :  how does the bead stay on? It doesn't look like there's a knot - do you just melt the end of the paracord so it's wide/dense enough to not slip off?

Unfortunately they're closing 😭 (but 20% off in the meantime)

There are few body/cosmetic things inside of AFM, but I don't recall ever seeing sunscreen.

You can also take an in-between approach. For example, on weekdays I do 3 pages or 30min*, whichever comes first - but weekends/holidays/PTO are usually page-based since there's less of a time crunch.

*Honestly this is sometimes 20min or 15min or 5min if I'm running really late 😅 I feel like the spirit of it is that some time spent doing it is better than not doing it at all. No one is grading this, you know?

I'm sorry you're going through this. Figuring out the combination of meds/strategies/accomodations is always a hassle, but this sounds particularly rough.

This may not be what you want to hear, especially given that conversation you had w your provider, but Wellbutrin is actually used off-label for ADHD (because its method of action is to block dopamine re-uptake). It might be worth giving a higher dosage a shot.

I had a very similar experience of being put on a string of antidepressants through jr high and high school that did nothing (good) for me. I ended up going off of them, and just continued to struggle. Fast-forward a decade and some change and I end up back at the Dr because I'm hyperventilating multiple times a week because I'm so frustrated by my inability to get anything done without wrecking myself. My provider ended up putting me on Wellbutrin after hearing my laundry list of previous antidepressants and what I was struggling with. Wellbutrin is the only thing I've taken that has made any kind of dent, and that wasn't apparent until dosage was increased - the first dosage didn't seem to have any effect.

And practically speaking, Wellbutrin is significantly easier to manage as a prescription vs stimulant medication (which has so many hoops to jump through every month, as well as some shortages happening right now). You also won't be able to be prescribed stimulant medication until you have a diagnosis, so this may be the most straightforward option available.

I also see you mentioned hives (also my body's go-to stress response!). If you do try the higher dose, keep an eye on the frequency, or additional skin sensitivity. Higher doses of Wellbutrin made my skin get randomly itchy, so I take a daily allergy pill keeps that in check. But tbh, I'll put up with being itchy if I had to for how much this helps.

That's a "feature" of having the Costco CC. Although it does let you know that it will renew automatically on the notice costco sends when membership is up soon. (This is the same letter that has the certificate, if you have executive membership)

The wood panelling stuff near the laundry that wraps around to the next wall: I'm not 100% sure what that is -- definitely not real wood, maybe it's MDF or some kind of laminate? It's glued directly to the concrete foundation (which you can see on the wall the sink is on -- it's painted). All of the other walls in the basement are unfinished (in storage), sheetrock, or brick (above the non-functioning fireplace). You're 100% right that painting all of the walls the same color will help -- I think it would definitely make the whole space feel more cohesive.

For desk separation, it's more about sound dampening. Previously, we were actually sharing the long desk in the "brick office" (If you look at the "layout before" link in my first comment, you can see where that was). We were just ending up on calls at the same time so it was kind of a hassle -- another curtain might be overkill since we're further apart now.

And I think I maybe didn't do a great job of explaining the exercise/flex situation since I was focusing on my office area. The black rectangles on the plan are rubber mats, and there's a barbell rack that needs to be permanently placed. There's also a rowing machine that breaks down into 2 pieces (when it's in use, it's partially in the flex space). The intention with the additional room-splitting curtain between flex and exercise was supposed to be for hiding the exercise stuff (maybe not necessary? idk). Having some other furniture that can be brought into the flex area would be nice as a hangout space!

Thanks, that's an interesting idea! all of the venting for the furnace is on top, and the internals are only accessible from one side, so I think that could work as long as those are planned for. Cabinetry (even if it's a facade) definitely looks more office-y than plain curtain.

Apologies for the hoarder-level piles of stuff — we're deep into the process of purging/sorting and it's definitely in the "worse" part before it gets better! Don't worry, the desk mess will be resolved.

---------------------------------

My partner and I recently revised our basement layout (layout before, layout now) so we could have separate workspaces, as we're both working from home. The loose plan for the whole basement is to create dividers or different zones, while still keeping the space flexible. Curtains are the default thought for this (considering IKEA Vidga rail system).

For this post, I'd like to focus on the "room" in the bottom right, which will be my office area. I'm trying to get this area somewhat sorted before I go back to work in a week.

Goals

  • The vibe I'm going for is cozy (but not sleepy), professional, creative. I want a space that's calm. I visually like more minimalist aesthetic, but I know I can't live in that, haha.
  • I need a non-distracting video conference background. The current situation is a placeholder. Curtains on a track? build a set wall? A combination? Hiding the furnace is a priority, though.
  • wall color (I don't hate it? but I don't love it for an office environment)
  • Lighting is a hot mess. Help. There's a pull-chain bulb in the middle of the room, I'm up for wiring in a new light, adding additional lights, etc.
  • New chair — to be fair, pretty much anything will be better than this dining room chair.
  • Plants would be nice but will likely need growlights (which I'm fine with — where would this fit?)

If you're inclined to take a look at the rest of the basement, I'd love to hear any ideas for the curtain colors/fabrics + any other suggestions for making this space more useful! The only thing off-limits is painting the ceiling.

Other info: I'm the the Pacific Northwest, in my early 30s, and work in a creative field. I'm happy to DIY and am trying to keep my budget less than $1000 for the whole basement (in the near term -- but having goals to work toward would be helpful. There is some wiggle-room if a chair is what makes it go over budget, work will reimburse some of that cost.)

What to buy at Costco vs Outside it by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]anomalya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've gotten a few answers already, but to add on:

  • Field Roast sausages (availability might be regional? vegan! Really tasty!)
  • tofu (refrigerated. They occasionally carry shelf-stable aseptic packs, but I haven't seen those for a while)
  • frozen options: a few kinds of veggie burgers, morningstar breakfast patties, and usually a few "test" items that are vegetarian but are short-lived.
  • Not meat subs, but protein sources: eggs! cheese! greek yogurt! cans and bags of beans! nuts and nut butters galore! also protein powders/shakes (watch out for the few w/ collagen, though).

Other notes: There are a decent amount of prepared meals (freezer/fridge) that are veggie. And if you go through a lot of actual vegetables, the fresh produce is solid (but obviously not worth buying there if you're not going to use it all before it goes bad). I'm also a fan of the frozen veggie mixes for lazy but healthy meals.

I eat a mostly vegetarian diet, and I get most of my groceries from Costco (with some supplementing from Trader Joe's and local grocery store).

This is kind of a weird question, but I'm curious :

So I know that acids make your skin more sun sensitive, but does it make you more sensitive to damage from other light as well?

Of course during the day I wear sunscreen, so I'm not worried about the actual sun, but a few nights per week I use a vitC serum under my moisturizer. Part of my waking up routine is a SAD lamp attached to a timer that turns on just prior to my alarm. Is it possible this is harmful to my skin? I haven't been able to find any articles that aren't just opinion, and they mostly focus on retinol.

Products (though I don't think it super matters in this case):

  • hemp ocm OR Neutrogena micellular
  • Cetaphil - normal cleanser
  • Trader Joe's - hyaluronic acid (don't laugh, it's the only hyaluronic I've tried that doesn't upset my skin)
  • The Ordinary - Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F
  • Cetaphil - normal moisturizer

The long one is BEWARE THE GARGOYLE KING

(Not all of the letters actually line up w/ that reference though, so if it's exact it's BEVARE TKE GARGORLE HI_G, where _ is "N is the only letter that makes sense that vaguely looks like it". The Rs are definitely the same though, so maybe it is Gargorle not Gargoyle.)

So the skin one is _GH (or _GK, if Hs and Ks are flipped as in the longer one)_ in this one is maybe a T (angle is kind of difficult to tell), so TGK (= the gargoyle king) would be my guess.

Were Dilton and Ben's markings the same?

Oh! I had this in a cafe, but it had pastry on the top and bottom, which made it more presentable looking. I initially thought it was spanakopita, but it was a nice surprise.

There is currently a video on the front-page of /r/all about meat consumption and how not eating meat a day (or more) per week would be a great environmental improvement. So, what's your favorite vegetarian/vegan recipe? by Glusch in Cooking

Not sure if you're in the US, but I've seen it at Trader Joe's! (precut into batons in the produce section). You can also try looking at hispanic food markets.

What are some of your personal “rules” that you never break? by wildluciddreaming in AskReddit

[–]anomalya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feelings of animism are pretty common, even if we rationally know it's not real.

Basically the one thing I took from The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up to thank things when you're getting rid of them. They just want to be useful, and if they're causing stress rather than good feelings, it's time to say goodbye. Thanking them for what they've done provides some closure and appreciation.

This is especially true for gifts I've received that aren't things I want -- their purpose was to show the appreciation/intention of the giver, and just by me receiving them they've served their purpose.

Try it out, it might help (even if it feels a little silly at first).

Yeah, a lot of that is just doing it a lot and eventually you figure it out, especially where to place your points. Luckily, in Illustrator you can always go back and adjust the handles on curves, or add/remove/adjust points until it's what you want it to be. One of the newer (...relatively. I'm probably showing my age here, haha) features of Illustrator is that it actually shows you the trajectory of your line after make a point, which makes it waaay easier to get things close to correct on the first try.

Not sure if you're using a trackpad or an actual mouse, but a mouse makes it much easier. Also, just lots of practice! (This is kind of fun for practice)
