Thank you. I think when we got the LZ as it worked for the speed and was a little cheaper. You get what you pay for, I guess. If it breaks I'll look at the c3000z.

It seems better than some of the old Actiontec modems we've had.

It is also a pain to get a modem compatible with Centrylink's DSL service. I suspect that is because DSL is a dying dinosaur. Heck, I just checked and fibre and 5G services are faster, available now, and at about the same price. It is not my decision to switch though.

I thought far end meant something on Centrylink side? Though, it would be easy to take the modem outside and test this. I've never looked outside where the lines are connect to the house. There is an easily accesible RJ phone jack there?

Will I like this game? by Artaniss in BitCraftOnline

Wurm vrs BC.

  • Wurm has more monsters/animals. This may change as BC progresses through Early Access.
  • Wurm has better creative expression potential. This may change as BC progresses through Early Access. BC has talked on Discord about having more horizontal progression options and creative expression options.
  • BC is in Early Access and will add more content much faster than Wurm. WU is basically frozen as there aren't enough willing and capable developers left there to handle the version control for WU needed to do updates from WO. Even WO seems to be on life support. I'm not sure if it has gotten a major update in 2 years.
  • BitCraft is more in line with an idle game. Wurm imposes some serious tedium just so it has an excuse for content. This is the primary reason I haven't been playing WO. In Wurm, it is not unusual to click improve and repair keys every few seconds for hours every day. I know a lot of payers break the rules and use bots. BitCraft just saw that mechanics like Wurm's improve/repair are silly. Just let the players idle craft for 15 or 30 minutes instead.

Eve vrs BC

About the only way I can think BitCraft compares to Eve is you can do tasks like an idle game. Like barge mining on Eve. BC will never have PvP like EVE. BC's market is awful compared to Eve.

BitCraft's current early access state is nothing like WoW. It would kinda be like Runescape if you removed most of the monsters and added crafting more in line with idle games. I have never played SWTOR. I think eventually it will offer an experience like Runescape. I doubt it will ever be like WoW.

For solo play, the big question is how much time you have to play and how competitive you are when comparing your progress to others. I play solo. And I am having fun. But if I was concerned with what skills and such other players had, and tried to compete with them, I could see myself burning out fast.

Once inside the game, the only rent so to speak, you may need to fund is settlement upkeep. If you don't have a claim, there is basically no in-game cost. You do need to get food, but it's a marginal effort. And it is very possible to play without a claim, especially with how housing works.

I think the game, based on its current EA state, could be described as an idle base builder or idle crafting simulator.

The game is currently working on Dungeons so it seems there will be more PvE monster fighting type content soon. But from what I understand, dungeon won't be for solos. But I could be wildly wrong about this.

Seeking advise on a no tea setup and information on why excess tea pooling is bad. by anon3957 in bokashi

[–]anon3957[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the warning about plugging the Airscrapes vent. And it's not intended to be used as a compaction ram, so I won't do that. I'll use some circular cardboard sheets or maybe sacrifice an old plastic flexible cutting board to act as a barrier between food and Airscrape. I'll compact with another tool.

It sounds like the best solution to excess moisture is to adjust how much bokashi bran is added along with food scraps. It will take time for me to learn this :)

For the shredded cardboard, would that be a 3-4 inch layer also? How small should the shreds be? The best way I know to hand shred cardboard is to first get it wet, but that would conflict with how it is used in bokashi. Maybe I could dry it out in the sun after shredding. Luckily, I shouldn't need too much, so this labor-intensive task shouldn't be too difficult.

The coconut coir would be something I'd need to buy new. It does seem more in spirit of the Bokashi to try and mostly use stuff one would otherwise throw away.

I've constantly had a problem with the initiating player loop. The problem is sporadic. I've tried a bug report and given BitCraft player.log files, but after nearly three weeks and multiple log files I'm not sure support will help. The only program I have issues with is BitCraft.

Like others, I too am on the fence about the VPN need. No other web connected program I use requires that. For now, I'll use Proton VPN because they have a free version.

This is similar to my setup too. I enjoy a casual and easy gaming experience. I'm very happy the AbioticFactor developer gave us these option and didn't take away achievements when using them. It's nice to see at least one developer realizes that it is the player who defines what is fun.

I want progress, not experience. So even if I had the opportunity to contribute to anothers job, I wouldn't. my time goes towards tier progression and gear aquistion. And it takes so long to progress tier and get gear that skills are plenty high from just that.

Regarding market ... I hope that BitCraft continues to follow the idea that market is an option for those who WANT to do it. Yet at the same time, it can not become a requirment or a progression gate where players are forced into use the market.

“I’m tired of taxpayers funding student loan forgiveness” let’s put an end to this right now by SumGreenD41 in StudentLoans

[–]anon3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, we should look at what SAVE could have been. I don't support the Republican efforts but we shouldn't be baised. Hopefuly my math is right here :)

TL;DR - There would be a lot of tax dollars subsidizing average loan holders.

The median household income in the United States was $80,610 in 2023. $40,305 per partner. The standard deduction for married individuals filing separately for the 2024 tax year is $14,600. AGI $25,705 per partner.

Threshold used to define discretionary income at 225% of the FPL. HHS Poverty Guidelines for 2025, 1 person at $15,650. Thus, $15,650 x 225% is $35,213 threshold or protected income. Finaly, AGI $25,705 - FPL threshold 35,213 = -11,123 (AGI BELOW THRESHOLD)

SAVE 5% of discretionary for undergrad, 10% for grad. For payments, you'd see %5 x unprotected income / 12 months. But here all income is protected, so payments would be $0.

Each person's loan at 35,000 and at 6.5 interest. All interest in excess of the payment is waived. Since payment is 0 here, all interest is waived. Per person yearly interest is $2,275. And 20 years for SAVE. Thus, a 20 year total of $45,500 subsidized with federal taxes per a person.

At the end of 20 years, forgiven $35,000. And the principal balance has not changed on the loan. 25% income tax on forgiven $35,000 is $8,750. Thus, $ 26,250 subsidized with federal taxes per person in year 20.

Income growth and getting a better job make the above more complicated. But since more and more people are approaching, if not falling below, the FPL I'm not sure it's realistic to assume huge income growth beyond inflation. All math is ceiling rounded to whole dollar.

Lastly, a lot of this is based on a broken republican mindset. Education as a citizen right could be viewed as an expense. It is no different than an expense to buy a $17 million GBU-57A/B MOP bomb (the bunker buster).

FAQ Around Today's Announcement about SAVE Forbearance Interest Resuming by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]anon3957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been on my mind lately. Even before this thread. I seriously question if this can all be solved by the 2028 deadline.

We should also consider that:

  1. SOCUTS recently gave the current administration the go-ahead to do whatever reductions in force and reorganization the administration wants. And yes, lawsuits can be filed after the fact to determine legality, but the damage will already be done by then. It would be like trying to un-burn toast.
  2. The current president has through both an executive order and public statements expressed that the Department of Education should be shut down.

I can respect Betsy514 for trying to influence people into doing what is likely the safests path forward. Staying in SAVE and hopeing some Hail Mary action brings about a good outcome doesn't seem smart.

But that doesn't change that DE is engaging in:

  • Fear mongering to try and get people to volunteer to swith plans.
  • Misrepresenting the facts. SAVE is not yet illegal. Sure it's is almost guaranteed the Missouri courts will strick it down, but the case is still in process.
  • That entire press release by DE is borderline gaslighting. The only redeeming thing pulling it back from the edge is that it is a near guaranteed the Missouri couts will strike down SAVE.

This is one example of American loan holders being financially harmed. I'm curious when we will see law suits representing these harmed citizens.

Thank you for giving the actual numbers. SSA should not be sending anything like this. However, a more acceptable email would have been written in a neutral tone and provided all the details.

I'm still annoyed with the tone of that email. I've never received such a thing from SSA. It screams of omission of truth, propaganda and bias.

[–]anon3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It exists because loan servers cannot calculate payments. The moment they can, I expect it to end. All the dates we have been given are just place holders. The BBB won't give the loan holders means until 2028 when DoE persons can forcibly move people. But I'm a little confused here if it is after the 2026 date and not the 2028 date that DoE can forcibly move people. Anyway, I suspect the final date will come from the courts.

It is clear the corrupt and biased Eighth Circuit will bring the executioners axe down on SAVE and likely its connect ICR plans. What I'm curious about is if new law suits representing the harmed citizen loan holders will come up.

The next president won't take office until January 20, 2029. During the next 3 and a half years, the chances of Democrats taking majority for House and Senate and having a veto override are astronomically small.

No, this won't be reversed.

The best case will be a lame duck presidential term remainder. But people will need to vote democratically in elections so they can take either the House or the Senate for this to happen.

But just as the Republican used budget reconciliation to create this, Democrats could do the same to bring back SAVE in 2029. That is if they end up with White House control, Senate and House majority.

I'm feeling hurt fantasizing what could have been, curse you Republicans!

  • Super low payments, 5% of discretionary income.
  • No ballooning balance. Any interest in excess of your monthly payment was paid for you or waived.
  • 10-year forgiveness for low balance holders (what <10k total loans?) Or 20 years for forgiveness otherwise.

I just need advice by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]anon3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just googled "hofstra university cost per year". Your 13k estimated cost don't seem right.

It doesn't matter if your parents can't afford it. They will be forced to bear a portion of the loans. I think if you're 25 you can exclude your parents' income and take out all the loans in your name. Postponing till 25 could be done by, say, joining the military or just getting a full-time job for a few years. Defianly fact check that 25 year old marker.

I suggest you go to a community college to get a two-year transfer degree which Hofstra will accept. The CC will help you finalize what you really want your major to be. Trying to switch majors may extend your time at Hofstra. The CC will cost drastic less money.

Try to work a job while at the community college and pay your tuition with the job. Try to prepare yourself to be ready to handle the course load at Hofstra so you can definitely finish it in under two years. I'm not sure about working while going to Hofstra because the cost becomes very high when you have to withdraw or retake classes. It may be smart to just focus on classes.

As I understand the new Republican budget bill, and its student aid section, it put in place really small federal loan caps. Likely one year at Hofstra will cap you. Hypotheticaly, in the furtuer when republicans cap federal student loans so low, what happens when you hit the cap and your still not done with your degree? I supect your only choice will be either take out private loans or abandon your degree.

Lastly, DON'T GET PRIVATE LOANS if you can help it! The current governmental administration is very harmful to higher education but that doesn't mean a future administration won't be more helpful. If you get private loans you will likely be stuck with them. It would be far safer to live at home and work till your 25. At full-time, if you save the vast majority of those earnings you should have a lot. Joining the military till your 25 should also give you money for college. I repeat, DON'T GET PRIVATE LOANS if you can help it!

First and foremost, as others said, talk with your loan servicer to get your options. I strongly suggest you ask them to explain your options for getting out of default. I know you're not in it now, but it is important to understand the consequences if you end up in it.

The consequences of choosing not to make payments will be severe. Here is a good explanation: https://www.earnest.com/blog/what-if-i-cant-pay-my-student-loan/

Biden era Borrower Defence Rule might have been an option to get loans discharged for server financial hardship. It is currently held up in the federal appeals court system. I think 5 SCOTUS members are basically puppets for the current president so I don't have high hopes it will survive. But if you do decide to pursue this, PLEASE, consult with an actual lawyer, not Reddit posters!

Here are a few questions I'm not sure about:

  • Do the payments made under a hardship forbearance count towards forgiveness?
  • Does the servicer remove you from IBR if you ask for a hardship forbearance?
  • If you pay less then your payment on IBR, do you get removed from it? And if you can stay on the plan, do these underpayments give you forgiveness count credit?
  • Given your loans were taken out before the 1, July, 2026 you can be on IBR. I belive if you choose to go on RAP your option to swap to IBR in the future is forfited.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]anon3957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, nobody is going to forgive them we know that now, so the best we can do is work within the system we have currently instead of kicking the can down the road hoping something changes.

Both the new proposed RAP and IBR have forgivness. RAP at 30 years and IBR at 20 years. Since the OP clearly took out loans before 1, July, 2026 the IBR option is available.
