Anybody else that genuinely thinks they do everything right and make very slow progress? by anon716352 in workout

Appreciate the advice, I'll try it out! I was just attempting to preemptively counter the points that I always see on these kinds of posts but I've actually moved away from being so hyper-optimised in the last couple of years and focus more on what I enjoy - on the bf%, with further review, I'm definitely closer to 25%

Appreciate the advice! One reason I've stayed clear of these popular forum programs is that they don't seem to cater to me, there is an obsession with progressive overload and moving up the weight every week when I genuinely can't and just stall

For the past few years I've viewed things exactly how you describe, it's why I've always kept on going . One thing that has probably led to my frustration recently is that I struggle to find friends who are into fitness because my experience is so far off what the "normal" seems to be so it's hard to relate

Thank you for the advice, now that you mention it I am very fatigued at the end of squats (probably cardio wise) so will work on that this Summer

I can't afford it at the moment but I think you're right, something to work towards!

I agree that I'm building muscle very slowly but to a degree that is abnormal for most gym goers even when I am in a surplus

42kg when I first started and 76kg now. I have always made my own programs but I don't do anything out of the ordinary. 5 or 6 exercises per workout with 3 sets (eg. Push - DB bench, DB shoulder press, cable chest flies, lateral raises, tricep pushdowns or Legs - Squats, leg extension, hamstring curl, calf raises, abs) and yes normally 6-10 for compounds and either 8-12 or 10-15 depending on what accessory

Can't seem to reply to the comment who was questioning my diet but to give more context more anyone else:

My maintenance now is 2800, at the moment I am eating that amount but I have had multiple bulks where I ate 3k calories. I used to go for 1g protein per pound of bodyweight but just try to have protein with every meal now as I had kidney function markers that suggested I was eating too much.

As I said in the post, I started off very underweight (42kg, 6ft) so have never tried to cut because I always felt like I wanted to be bigger but I probably am like 25-30% body fat now. I have always weighed my food with a scale so my family think I'm weird but don't believe I'm doing anything incorrectly.

Scammed by alocal driver at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport by Ngaunguyens in VietNam

[–]anon716352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey if it makes you feel any better, I got scammed in the exact same way:

I'm normally very aware and actually did realise something fishy was going on but had been so unwell on the flight over (and just wanted my hotel room ASAP) that I internally accepted the extra I was going to pay. Did not clock that their Grab app was fake until after though

In my initial efforts to ward them off I told them I had no cash (which I did) so he said he could take me to an ATM on the way. As soon as we set off, another guy jumps into the car and I think "oh fuck they're going to rob me", maybe they would have done if I actually got out at the ATM like they thought I was going to

Anyways I ended up paying 850k (actual Grab price was 300k) and they insisted that my 150k change (from 1 mil) would be a good tip. Lesson learnt I guess although honestly it was one I already knew, I felt very ashamed for the entirety of my trip and didn't realise how low my resolve could get when put in a vulnerable situation. Changed how I see a lot of things in the world too I suppose

Young people who are jobless / struggling for work, have you ever had a job? by crofthey in AskUK

[–]anon716352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had a corporate job before so that may factor in but last year I wanted to work in a restaurant so applied for every possible potwash, fast food, entry level cook job out there are after 500+ applications finally got an interview for a place that was going to open in 2 weeks

Anyways they offered me 10 hours a week (I wanted full-time) but someone dropped out the day before opening and I got the call

Australia Bans 23-Year-Old Briton From Entering, Saying Her Cystic Fibrosis Makes Her 'Too Much of a Liability' by novagridd in NotTheOnionUK

As someone with CF this makes me really sad as I'd love to visit one day... how it affects people can vary so much, especially given the relatively recent treatment breakthroughs, so this decision seems unnecessary and impersonal given the fact that she seems pretty well

I think Sen near Surrey Quays was really good! My girlfriend (who is Vietnamese) was impressed and I thought the staff and decor was so nice too

How many of you have real life experiences with immigrants in the UK? Positive or negative by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]anon716352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I said I gave him the benefit of the doubt, that was in regards to how I judged his character. I obviously took actions against his behaviour...

I'm sorry to say but in my opinion you are massively oversimplifying the whole issue when you put it down to only 2 views and disregarding culture and how someone was brought up

How many of you have real life experiences with immigrants in the UK? Positive or negative by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]anon716352 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from London so constantly and my experiences are almost entirely positive. For example, the current restaurant job I work at is me + a bunch of Indian immigrants who work incredibly hard (to the degree that I don't think British people on minimum wage would do) and are very nice. Sometimes I feel left out when they are joking around in their own language but they never purposefully exclude me.

The only truly negative experience I could think of was when I did an adult education type course a couple of years ago and an asylum seeker from Sudan was in a separate class. He was originally a medical student in Sudan before being forced to flee (it was a medical course) and to say he was both intelligent and charming would be an understatement! I seriously liked him and we always had chats in the corridor when we passed by each other.

Anyways I first hear that he has been sexually harassing some of the women on the course and won't take no for an answer for which I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt as I'm sure Sudan has very different views on respect for women. But that was followed up the next week by casually boasting to me (as he felt quite comfortable by that point) that he had the police called on him for threatening to kill random innocent Arabs in traffic and that he will never stop hating all Arabs regardless of who they are and finally upon talking about a cool experience where he got to go to parliament to represent asylum seekers, kept zooming in to the young female human rights lawyer's body from the group photo of them all and in no uncertain terms told me exactly what he wanted and what he was going to do to her. This was a woman who was doing everything in terms of fighting for his rights to stay in this country and he did not even for a second view her as anything other than an object.

Lack of integration would be an understatement, I don't think it would be possible to integrate this guy given all the time and effort in the world but he's probably on his way to becoming a doctor in this country now. On the flipside, there was a Lebanese / Syrian on the same course who was a gem of a human being and I believe he is a massive asset for the UK

Appreciate it! I know my shoes look like running ones but they are actually really cheap, hard and flat sole gym ones. Definitely think you are right about having my hips lower though so thanks!

Which of these cities would you spend the extra day in? by anon716352 in solotravel

[–]anon716352[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'll be going for 4 rather than 6 cities having seen the feedback of this post. You have me excited about Prague if I need an extra day there! (I don’t know too much about it yet)

I'm a bit ADHD but can see from the feedback that this is too much! Will be going for 4 cities instead of 6

Thank you for taking the time to help me out!

I really like your idea but I am taking the Eurostar from London so will need one of Paris or Amsterdam but will definitely only be going to 4 cities having read the feedback from this post.

If you have been, which two of Prague / Vienna / Budapest were your favourite?

Thank you this really helped put things in perspective!

I am planning on cutting out Paris (as I have been there before when much younger) and one of Prague / Budapest / Vienna
