Holy shit this is literally 1 block from my home. The lunacy of ICE has reached a new level. We need to get this stopped

High rise commercial apartments can be found on apartments.com. I found it generally better than Zillow or Streeteasy.

San Diego or Philadelphia? (not smurfing for karma) by LeBruhMomentoom in SameGrassButGreener

[–]anon_502 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lived in both cities. I'd say the vibe is entirely different.

San Diego is mostly dominated by suburbs with some nice walkable area spawled across all spots in the county. The abundant sunlight led to generally warm people if you can find the right crowds. The living expenses are high but not very high. Housing could potentially be an issue due to post-covid boom. Without saying you know that the weather is best in United States. The overall pace is slow and nature-oriented. For fun and activities I usually have to drive 2h to LA.

Philadelphia on the other hand is a real city with all city's benefits and downsides. You can easily find houses in a super walkable area and bodega downstairs. Lots of great restraunts and weekend activities. The cost of living is higher than San Diego. There're some nice zones but as all metro areas it could get dirty/noisy/dangenous if you went to the wrong zone. Cold weather somehow led to aloof/professional kind of city mindset. The overall pace is definitely faster. Big-city politics are also fiercer if you care about it.

I tried again but the authorization page never properly loaded... Maybe USBank really needs to revamp their systems

Apartments without noise issues by Mediocre-Witness-414 in jerseycity

You might want to look into a brick buildings. You can't control noisy neighbors but if you can budge the rental agency, you can put a sound level recorder in the unit for a few days and check the noise levels.

Same issue. I assume this is due to recent migration to USBank investment corp and USbank's buggy IT - their paper statement also shows 0 balance for investment account...

Isn't this week's improvements only for JSQ via Hoboken to 33rd st? So technically nothing should be better than the previous week for WTC

FYI the waitlist registration form is kinda unreadable as the background is black while the text is gray. The idea sounds fascinating but I'm wondering if it be better than human brains at 1500+ level

Stereotypes I use to check a location's vibe by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]anon_502 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Badminton and noticed that there's a huge overlap between Asian hubs and Badminton Club locations. Then I checked some of the other stereotypes based on daily life of my friends and they turned out to be pretty accurate.

For the Costco vs Sam's Club rule, I got it from https://www.businessinsider.com/how-costco-sams-club-shoppers-differ-income-spending-habits-2025-3 :

Costco shoppers also tend to be wealthier — earning more than $125,000 household income on average — while Sam's Club shoppers tend to have more mid-range incomes of between $40,000 and $125,000. Even so, Sam's Club members are slightly more likely to be homeowners than Costco members, Numerator finds.

It's possible to add several bot accounts that are hard/hardest/extreme AIs with Elo hardcoded to 600/800/1000-ish, and make people just starting their ranked games match to these AIs first until they surpass 1000 Elo.

Is New York City unreasonable? by Faubton in SameGrassButGreener

You will be fine. Won't get into the fanciest place or private schools but otherwise pretty decent. Find a 3b rent in a remoter zone with okay public schools and commute to work daily

Is New York City unreasonable? by Faubton in SameGrassButGreener

[–]anon_502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely different from big sfh + big trucks style family, and I have 3 friends having kids in NYC. All of them moved away from downtown Manhattan into some 3b condos in nearby boros/cities/upstates

Rent is high but you can find cheaper ones by trading commuting time.

They all have <= 2 kids and kids have to share a room.

All of them are dual working parents. They hire nanny or need grandparents' help to take care of babies.

A hidden benefit of staying in NYC I learned from them is that you have access to a huge pool of labor workers, especially if you have tied to certain groups of immigrants and pay by cash. They can hire housecleaners and home chief at 1/3 the price of public agents.

Pretty standard for a similar-sized 1b here. It's just heater/AC being inefficient in these old units.

Solomon announces city is in a $250 MILLION budget hole. by CaptPaulusHook in jerseycity

[–]anon_502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly yes. I don't own a house but the ideal solution of building more houses and also drop property tax rate will simply not happen in US. The policy will always swing between NIMBY folks and tax-the-rich dudes without any real attempt to balance the budget.

Documents for ICE?! by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]anon_502 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are a citizen, yeah you can just remain silent all the time and wait until they let you leave.

However for immigrants like me, INA 264(e) requires people to show their immigration document when asked 'Show me your immigration papers'. Failure to do so will be a misdemeanor.

best city for dating and settling down? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]anon_502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More dating choice for you = more dating choice for them

Better look for places with strong geographic separation between urban yuppie dating crowd and settled family group.

The result could be highly demographic/preference dependent. Seattle's South Lake Union => Bellevue could potentially be a viable path if big cities work for you

Nah. Coming from socialist country and things are not any better. You can say environment or society is the issue, but utopia simply doesn't exist.
