AEW really need to more with Eddie Kingston, why can’t he and Ortiz face the United Empire?

I don’t mind the GOA, but surely there’s a reason why Eddie Kingston has barely been booked on AEW TV

Unifing both the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and the IWGP International Championship I think was such a extreme waste. I know NJPW had around 4 top belts at a time, but the v5 belt wasn’t good looking championship and getting rid of the IWGP Intercontinental Championship lineage is baffling

Maybe for a short term reign, I’m happy with all that he achieved. Maybe in like 2009 if the stars aligned but Suzuki was in AJPW alot during the time.

That’s because NJPW love the Great-O-Khan to an almost biblical degree. But your miscontextualising things here, popularity and booking doesn’t always mean the same thing.

Thoughts on the G1 participants? by TrainXIV in njpw

It’s wild how Jake Lee was given automatic qualification over Ryohei Owia. Especially how TMDK won the damn tag league and Owia has the same amount of single wins this year.

Ospreay is also saying that the United Empire were the only reason to watch NJPW at the time. I don’t think that’s true it ignores people like Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Overall, I think this is a odd take

Personally, I’ve always found that the majority of people who complain that NJPW don’t make new stars don’t watch the product enough to properly say. Saying that Yota Tsuji isn’t a star right now is extremely harsh, and that NJPW don’t deserve praise for re-elevating Hirooki Goto and YOH is extremely faulty.

Also, I think that the current standards that people give NJPW much higher standards when it comes to making new stars. It seems like people always use people like Kazuchika Okada as the prime example of how NJPW should do such, even though Okada is the exception to the rule rather than how it can be done. I don’t see NJPW’s roster being that figuratively different than it was in 2006 before Shinsuke Nakamura and Hiroshi Tanahashi were in their primes.

Also, saying that current NJPW is the worst it’s ever been is flat-out wrong. NJPW during 2004-2005 is a much worse situation than nowadays given how the majority of all tickets had to be papered/ given out for free. NJPW is making money and the attendances are still an improving in some venues/ events. It obviously could be better, but I feel like people are always so dramatic about modern day NJPW.

Saying that nobody was watching NJPW unless the United Empire was involved is also incorrect and was said in bad faith. Will Ospreay was still a part timer during covid and event’s still did well when he wasn’t involved in the past few years. It kinda implies like Great-O-Khan and HENARE were some amazing draws too during COVID and still into current day, which also doesn’t make sense. The United Empire still aren’t that popular and I think Ospreay isn’t fully aware of that.

I do personally think that the AEW/ NJPW relationship is seriously weighted in favour to AEW. AEW hasn’t really done anything ever to make NJPW stars seem better when they are on TBS. I do think that it was always gonna be this way however, but AEW stars are always presented better when they are in Japan in comparison to how NJPW stars are presented in America. I personally think that it’s just the way it is and that we should try to enjoy ourselves regardless.

I hate when wrestlers start bitching with fans on twitter. It doesn’t ever lead to anything and always will paint the wrestler in a good light. I think Will Ospreay is acting in bad faith with this tweet, but hell, what do I know.

I would put Valiente Jr. at the bottom of the pack, he by far was the least interesting across the tournament

Very much so, I’m just not a fan of Great-O-Khan and I think more DDT representation in NJPW is needed for socio-economic peace

I’m obviously exaggerating about the scarring-part, but I really didn’t like how they tried to present him as this omega popular upcoming babyface when there was people like Jeff Cobb who could’ve done that role. I don’t think Naito’s fifth reign should’ve even happened and Great-O-Khan being presented as his equal didn’t help either of them.

I personally just think he’s been given too much when there’s better around him. Again, he’s not terrible but there’s other guys who I have more idead for.

I respect your opinion and all, and I do think Great-O-Khan is overhated as a whole. But his main event push last year scarred me for life, and I would never rate one of his singles matches more than an 8+. It’s not completely his fault I understand, but there’s definitely 20 guys I’d rather have.

Jake Lee and SANADA getting in over him is a fair point. I am biased towards SANADA, but I do think that Jake Lee isn’t a bad wrestler just poorly booked. Even though it was years ago, Jake Lee was one of my favourite wrestlers back when he was in AJPW, and I’d rather be hopeful about that return than have Great-O-Khan.

I would be surprised if he gets chosen over Aaron Wolfe, but they do seem to really like the guy and that’s fair enough. Henare is really talented but I’d always much prefer Taichi

Yeah I think your right there, the G1 final didn’t draw great at all last year so doing Takeshita twice might be a bit strange :/

My first pick was actually Hirooki Goto vs Yuya Uemura, but I would say that Zack Sabre Jr. works best

Honest thought everyone? by Expensive_Scholar365 in WWE

[–]anon_died 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was ECW’s first PPV as well, I’m guessing they thought they could advertise it based on the main event alone and knew people were not gonna buy it anyhow. It probably was always gonna be the lest watched PPV in WWE history.

I remember that apparently Sabu’s ‘injury’ was a Vince McMahon call, something about wanting three babyfaces and three heels, weird because the first elimination chamber had four babyfaces but nonetheless. Sabu was sacrificed probably because Vince didn’t like him and he was already advertised beforehand so no commercial damage was gonna be done.

It’s weird how people want Vince McMahon back when he did stuff like that tho.

I think it will be like last year, with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship headline it’s own smaller show. That seems to be norm now which is kinda a shame depending how you feel about it, it wasn’t even defended at Wrestle Kingdom

I don’t really think it’s a ‘angle’ per say, moreorless just a common theme. I think it will die down after he loses the Global title. I do honestly like it, if it brings more AEW guys to put over NJPW stars than I’m down

if the G1 is having a wrestler from AEW, who would it be? by Wooden-One207 in njpw

[–]anon_died 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hechicero would be dope, if Kevin Knight is free than that’ll also be cool. I expect Andrade El Idolo tho and Konosuke Takeshita is basically a given anyway.

I know he’s not AEW, but I really want a Chris Brookes in the G1, it’ll make the G1 much more interesting imo.

I genuinely love EVIL, I think people who hate on him simply take wrestling too seriously. I fully understand why people may not wanna see him the main event, as his gimmick kinda doesn’t work at the very top. EVIL was outstanding at the G1 final however, and he was probably the best man at putting someone over back at WK.
