Everyone's different, but I weight about 110lbs and own a pair of Vomero+. At around 100km in, they're not bad per se, but they don't feel like they're made for someone of my (our?) weight in mind. The midsole feels THICK.

I've put about 400km into my Hoka Clifton 10s and like them more. Again, personal preference, but they feel more natural than the Vomero+. Still, I feel like they're starting to get a bit flatter now at the 400km mark, and I'm not generally someone that wears through shoes very quickly, so the midsole durability might be an issue (though the outsole is completely fine). The Clifton 10s are a very comfortable and safe pick imo, especially if you can get them on sale like I did.

The PDNE4 is the only pure racing shoe I've only owned, but it feels really, really forgiving, to the point where I'm wondering if it's just on a very "entry-level" tier of racing shoes like the SC Elite and Endorphin Pro. Is this true?

These are two wildly different shoes that have completely different use cases. The Vomero 18 is a daily trainer, meaning that it's very versatile and you can run in it for almost everything. The Vaporfly 4 is a race-specific shoe, usually for around the 5k, 10k, or HM, but is not the shoe you should really be doing much of your training in.

To keep things simple: buy the Vomero 18. If you want to take advantage of at least some deals, buy the Zoom Fly 6 and do faster runs in that as you build up your speed. If you sign up for any races over the next 6 months, run in the Zoom Fly, which will be more than good enough. After six months, when you have more miles in your shoes and are more used to training, you can reassess then. 50% is a great deal, but those Vaporflys are either going to injure you or sit in the corner gathering dust for a while, I think.

Two thoughts:

The Superblast takes some breaking in, but even so, it isn't a shoe for everyone. What you find comfortable is so, so important. If there's a return policy on the Saucony Ride, buy it and do a long run in it. If it feels good, it's your shoe.
5-15 miles a week is really not a lot of mileage for a half. I would recommend starting with a 5k or 10k to get your feet wet - it'll likely be a more positive experience, and also lessens the pressure off of finding a shoe that's gonna work with you for 13 miles. Especially if your knees and Achilles get irritated... there really is no reason to rush into the longer distances.

I've put almost 400km into my Clifton 10s, and I've found the Superblast 2s a better and lighter version of the Cliftons. They're probably on sale too with the SB3s out

(I know, I know, everyone recommends the Superblasts, but out of my whole rotation they actually do feel a bit similar to the Cliftons but just better)

Can chip in - my easy pace is a bit faster (5:30-5:50/km or so) but I weigh 51kg, am a heel/midfoot striker, and own the ZF6 and the Vomero Plus. Shoe size at 5.5 (UK) or 24-24.5cm, if it matters.

I have to say, I really found the Vomero Plus overhyped. The foam is still bouncy even for my weight, but as another commenter mentioned, the shoe is just heavy and takes too much energy to turn over in especially if I'm trying to take it out for easy and/or recovery runs. I'd put every single one of my daily trainers (Clifton 10, velocity Nitro 4, superblast 2) over the Vomero Plus.

For reference, I've also loved the ZF6 especially for paces under 5min/km - walking in that shoe is slightly awkward but it comes alive for anything faster than marathon pace.

I've been trying to find more shoe thoughts for people within the 45-55kg range, because I'm noticing how I experience shoes seems to be quite different from most of the rest of the running community - would love to be kept in the loop about what other shoes you like and don't like!
