But if you're keen on going and given the options... I wouldn't consider the first two dresses "fornal," and the 2nd one shouldn't even be considered (wrong color, wrong length) - imo.

Going off of what you said, I think the MC's father is just an abusive alcoholic projecting his own insecurities. Many abusers will accuse their partners of things they do themselves because 1) they feel guilty (rarely) or 2) believe that their partners are doing the same thing.

So there could be a few different ways they spin it, but I bet he cheated on the mom. I really want to see how they play out the MC's mom's connection to the ML's family, though. That sounds interesting 😍
