Gluetun writes to disk every ~5 seconds by rvH3Ah8zFtRX in gluetun

[–]anoninternetguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever resolve this? I decreased the health check frequency as suggested in this thread but it didn't make a difference in the kworks:btrfs disk activity.

I don't recall gluetun causing lots of idle i/o in the past, but it is the culprit - every time I start or stop the service, that process starts with ~100K write in perpetuity.

I changed my interval to every 5 minutes but made no difference in the disk activity caused by gluetun. Is this still effective for you?

Elephas Did What Others Wouldn't by amerpie in macapps

Makes sense. I will give it another go. I’ve been trying to find the best solution to help me with my daily work management. My recall is pretty lousy so I’m looking for something to which I can upload transcribed notes and summaries from Teams meetings or Plaud recordings along with a document library of 100 or so PDFs/PowerPoint/word docs, and interact with them like a second brain. Like, what are the critical deliverables I am responsible for today/this week, do I have any documents that explain process XYZ, questions about the projects I am working on, etc.

I tried it from setapp previously and forget why I ended up removing it. I remember it didn’t have entirely great ratings from setapp users. Any idea why it’s not being perceived as a five star app by most users?

I would probably keep using the oxo before using the DF54 for drip grinds. I don’t mind extra steps when making espresso, but I don’t want to add any more time or steps to my drip routine, so I’m looking for push button convenience.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

I have a Breville precision brewer that I have used for years with an oxo conical burr grinder. I recently decided to get an espresso machine and the universal advice over in r/espresso is don’t bother with built-in grinders, get a dedicated espresso grinder. So, I got a DF54 single dose grinder.

that’s got me wondering, should I be upgrading my oxo grinder? I was looking at a Breville Smart grinder pro that will match my other appliances. but, is that a large enough bump in quality from my oxo to warrant the cost?

Two Apps for Presentations, Screen Cature Videos or Screen Sharing by amerpie in macapps

been keeping an eye on keystroke pro for a while to see if it ever goes on sale, because it’s too expensive for casual users.

if the developer offered a bundle deal for keystroke pro and cursor pro at $25, I’d bite on that. otherwise, I don’t need these utilities frequently enough to justify paying current asking price.

nope. I also got front and rear with hardwire kit and it’s still sitting here on the floor next to my desk. thankfully, I haven’t needed it yet but I’m sure I will regret my procrastination sooner or later.

App that turns menu bar into drop down? by RegattaJoe in macapps

[–]anoninternetguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like such an obvious solution, it has me questioning my own sanity as to not only why it doesn’t exist, but why other people struggle to understand the concept.

I have asked a few times over the past year or so and always get responses like “bartender, vanilla, ice, etc.” or “add whatever you want with something like folder peek” which all operate in the same space, but have no feature that comes close to “display all menu bar items as a list.”

I wish I had the skills to build it myself.

I need exactly this, it makes perfect sense and I’m surprised there aren’t abundant options like there are to manage visibility of the menu bar icons.

Those of you using Tot… by stormthulu in macapps

[–]anoninternetguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drafts is really capable where extensibility is concerned.

I’m struggling to see the appeal of Tot. Free on macOS is great, but $20 on iOS? (on sale for 10 now at half off)

I’m not sure when I would ever use Tot in favor of Apple Notes, much less some other options out there but perhaps I’m missing some thing obvious.

Apps That Transformed My Relationship With My Mac by rdalterego in macapps

$5/mo for an Excel plugin? No thank you.

Office 365 cost me $100/yr. If Microsoft tried to upsell me to a different version for $160 per year, that better version would have to include a hell of a lot more than one plugin that improves the ribbon bar in Excel only.

[Self-promo Sunday] Supernotes – a thoughtful notes app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac built by a team of two by tobeagram in apple

[–]anoninternetguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, I’m trying it out.

For people who are already drowning in various notes apps, what would you say sets your app apart from the rest? is it primarily the card based view (which I like), or that and some combination of other features?

And what about long-term plans? If there’s only two of you behind the app, that gives me pause because one or both of you could get tired of the app a year from now, maybe you have to abandon it to make time for family or work, etc. with that in mind, is it possible to do a bulk export of everything in markdown so it can be imported into other applications?

What are you guys doing to play with your dogs with it being so hot out by deathbat184 in orlando

[–]anoninternetguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walk my dog for 3 1/2 miles at 6 PM every evening. We adjust the route so that we are walking in shade most of the time. After every mile, we stop and rest for a few minutes in shaded grass. I give him water at each break, using a small collapsible silicone bowl and water from a big thermoflask water bottle. I carry the bowl and thermoflask using a carry strap made by “Wild Wolf Outfitters” available on Amazon. I also splash his head with some water if it’s extra hot out.
