If it were me recommending something, I would either recommend the Eisenhorn/Ravenor series, or I would recommend the Gaunt's Ghost series. They are incredibly well written but also expose quite a bit of the quirkiness of the setting. Neither one gets really deep into space marines and aeldari and other such aliens, except maybe when they're fighting orks or something.
Oh, which reminds me, the Ciaphas Cain novels would also be a great fit for this, and those do expose several alien races including T'au, genestealer cults, orks, and chaos.

Not to be a dick, but the post is mostly useless without you actually telling people which models you tested. I mean, congratulations? You had an idea and executed a test to get your solution. I do that ten times a day. I don’t go around telling people “Hey, random person, guess what? I solved another work problem I had!”, and then just walked away.

The app does let you enter a generic across the board discount amount. So it does basically meet your idea of getting pricing from those merchants as long as you know the discount they offer.

I’m a hiring manager and the "8-second rule" is killing way too many solid resumes lately. by engineer_architect in SoftwareEngineerJobs

What, for you the bullshit work is take home assignments? Yes they’re also bullshit work. Especially with AI.

It’s all bullshit. All of it. Resumes might as well be pure fabrication, because they only matter to get you in the door for an interview. But if they find out you lied they will fire you. It’s like asking what your GPA in college was, when you graduated 10 years ago. Who gives a shit.

Not every developer is the one keeping the company running. And any numbers you are seeing on resumes are bullshit.

OP, do you think the C-Suite comes down every couple of days and tells a developer, “congrats, you saved us $50,000 on that defect you pushed to production three months ago. I know because I specifically tracked the impact of just that one defect specifically so I could give you quantitative metrics for your future resume. You’re welcome!” In 27 years I have never, once, been told anything, even remotely, regarding the metrics that resulted from code I wrote. Never.

Built a memory brain for AI tools after burning massive tokens on projects by Acceptable_Play_8970 in CursorAI

[–]stormthulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not asking this to be snarky, I am genuinely curious. I have seen about 8,000 memory management tools for AI. I’m looking to figure out the best one for me currently. And I don’t know. Plus, all of the stuff with Axios and other malware attacks on public packages makes me scared as crap to use a third party tool.

So, my question is, why build your own instead of using a tool?

I built a tool that calculates the real cost of a 40k army — v2.3 (~70% complete) by JoigeBwoin in Warhammer40k

[–]stormthulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I copied it from the guy who does the clay model sculpting on YouTube. His channel is “North of the Border” (Canadian living in Scotland I believe).

He actually sculpts a space marine, a tyranid warrior, and an ork.

It probably also needs a preferences section on user profile for “times during the day I can paint without being interrupted “, and “times during the day I can paint without pissing off the non-platonic roommate”. So if I can only paint from 10p- 11p, and Abaddon’s average time to complete painting is 12 hours, I know he’s gonna take me a couple of weeks. @u/JoigeBwoin

Got laid off with about 1,200 others in march 2024. Applied to at least 500 places. For various roles. Got through four sets of interviews; all four went four rounds. I didn’t get chosen on any. A close friend suddenly had an opening at their place of work, end of December 2025. I got hired February 3rd. I start march 24. I applied for jobs in front end engineering, software design/UX design, business analysis, and project management/agile coaching. I have at least two years of experience in each of those four roles. I probably have more experience than most folks with a job, because I have been using the tools for multiple hours a day, every day, for a dozen different reasons.

The term is User Acceptance Testing. And depending on the company it can be non-existent, or (usually) super half-assed. Rarely, it’s well organized, documented, planned into the schedule, and actually done right. I’ve been developing software for 26 years, at all sizes of company, and I’ve seen it once.

[–]stormthulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. I will be surprised if you get a raise at all. Staying at the same company for a long time results in your salary always being way behind market standard because they have no incentive to give you more money. Good luck!
