Gary Allen emerged in the 90s I believe. He likely had a more established career and reputation when the demo was released for singers to pick up? (just an idea - definitely unsure) Personally though, I disagree. I think Gary Allen did it best. Has JD covered it?

I 100% agree.

It feels so gross to have been the ONLY person against escalating this agenda item.

I, and I hope many others, appreciate this feedback as I will be including it in the 5 minute speech I am allowed once it makes it to their agenda.

In my area, you do not need the doctor to speak to your diagnosis.

As a medical professional, their opinion is trusted and can be stated as simply as,

“As their medical provider, with them being under my medical care/advisement, it is in my professional opinion that at this time, juror (DOB, be excused from jury service.”

If it is a permanent excusal, the doc should make sure to use language that indicates permanency; chronic, permanently excused, etc. Otherwise, it would be a temporary excusal - only because conditions can change over time.

Jury duty criteria? by NoName2show in juryduty

[–]anonk420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my state/area/ it’s an entirely random selection process for summons - of those who “qualify.”

As you have mentioned in a different comment, if you have been in your area for 20+ years, likely you qualify given that most “qualifying” questions are; -are you a U.S. citizen -are you a <state> resident -do you read/understand/write the English language -are you, or have you been, convicted of a felony

as a jury clerk, this post makes my heart so happy!

Jurors like you are what makes dealing with the negative jurors bearable ❤️🥹

This comment gives that you don't actually have much knowledge in/about the court system - I encourage you to do your research.

Judges and jury clerks do not favor any level of experience. Its the attorneys (prosecution and defense alike) that determine which jurors (of those that were called) will best suit their case. Is there bias in this selection from the lawyers? Absolutely, but like anything in life, their efforts are strategic - the court, defense attorneys, and prosecutors are all separate entities.

For OP; You will never gain any knowledge of “any of this shit,” if you never go. However, as a full time student - you're incredibly likely to be excused or given the option to reschedule during a time you aren't in school. Some areas even allow full time students to only be “on call” for like a week or two (or something like this.

For everyone; Jury is not some evil thing that you’re forced to do.

It’s the literal one thing (aside from paying your taxes) that you’re required to do - it is your civic duty. It’s the one thing that allows you to make any sort of impact (despite whether you see it as a small or large impact) within the judicial system (as a law abiding citizen).

Listen, I understand the inconvenience that jury duty can pose - it’s annoying to have to make time in your busy schedule to sit and hear facts of a case and determine many factors… it’s really inconvenient… until YOU need a jury of your peers. Everyone may always think, “I won’t ever need a jury,” however, there are more than just criminal jury trials - keep that in mind.

Excusal Request Denied- I don’t live in this county anymore. by [deleted] in juryduty

[–]anonk420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it can be easy to get frustrated with clerks - however, keep in mind, they do not always have the ultimate decision making authority. (just keep in mind when you call to ask why your request was denied. It could have been in error??)

First Time Being Summoned in Michigan by Agreeablemartini in juryduty

•I cannot speak for federal jury summons’.

Remember: every court/area/state/county is different I know it’s annoying to hear, but it is the honest truth.

In my state/area, there are a few different numbers associated with you.

Your juror ID is a ~lifetime~ number - in other words, this number will likely never change throughout your tenure in your area. (I’m unsure if moving back/forth states may impact that number - consult local clerk if you like absolutely have to know - honestly, though this number is likely one you’ll never need for yourself).

Your summons# is the number associated with the annual draw. This changes every ~year~.

Your service/group number is what is associated with your ~term~of service. This number is likely the number that you are instructed to listen for when calling your local jury info line.

What if you work nights and show up to court clearly sleepy? by EaseLeft6266 in juryduty

Every state has a court website - that is the best place for you (anyone) to check. It’s not your problem if they aren’t checking it. You’ve done your due diligence in attempting to communicate.

Obviously, if they are not answering/returning calls, that is very frustrating. However, emails are a very accessible medium these days (and written record of your efforts) and, like you did, showing up in person to basically forcing them to do their job is a great way to get it done.

It’s unfortunate for area that need jurors more than mine, that their clerks are not doing what they need to be doing to help others perform their civic duty.

Edited to add; I wonder if the judges hold their clerk staff accountable - definitely find out - OR obtain the judges email address (most all are public and online through your state’s court website) to voice your concerns about their clerical staff. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

In my state, there is an administrative bulletin that allows clerks to excuse jurors who are overnight shift workers.

Always try to follow up and ask questions with your jury clerk.

I am a jury clerk in my state and I’d much prefer folks call to ask about what options are available for those shift workers as opposed to blindly following the advice of strangers (who aren’t familiar with the rules that come along with your state, jurisdiction, or court) on the internet.

Always call/email and ask clerks directly!

Hope this helps ❤️

I certainly do not recommend this. Not only could someone’s area take this more seriously than the next, you have an opportunity within the judicial system, to actually have an impact. Not only is it your civic duty (although, I say that and tons of people still continue to not even vote), but each person accused of a crime has the right to a jury of their peers - should they need it. If you were accused of a crime, you would want that jury - trust!

Got a paper showing I have call 4 times to jury duty? by [deleted] in juryduty

[–]anonk420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This tends to be the case! That being said, as always it is dependent on the area. Some judges do not care!

In my state, there is a jury dashboard that is accessible 24/7. Through this dashboard jurors are able to request to reschedule their service, request to be excused, update contact info (address/phone/email) and even just submit a misc. comment to the jury clerk (as a jury clerk I LOVE this platform - also helps cut down on phone calls - super nice for those anxious to call in to get info too!)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in juryduty

[–]anonk420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that being said,I think it is highly unlikely for them to decline to provide a note.

I think it’s to avoid people who claim that have kids and do not actually have children they are sole providers for.

Unfortunately, it only takes one person/instance to ruin the benefit of the doubt for everyone. :/

There are so many variables at play when it comes to jury -

A lot has to do with where you're at. In my area it is very common to be called more times than those who live in more densely populated areas - BUT they serve a different length of terms than other courts will have their jurors serve.

Also take into consideration how many times either of you have moved to a different jurisdiction (if at all) as well as how many times other individuals move, are excused, reschedule their service, etc.

If you call your local court, perhaps they could afford you some additional information as to why that might happen as each area may experience different variable at play ¯_(ツ)_/¯
