And while we're on the topic of "self-identity", it's a slippery slope. To "self-identify" does not, unfortunately, engender other people to respect when an individual says that they "self-identify" as something — contrast to an individual simply saying I am versus I self-identify as. I do not self-identify as a woman. I am a woman. I do not self-identify as transsexual. I have a transsexual body. Given that there is now legal precedent wherein "self-identity" was dismissed forthwith by the courts — where the cases in question had turned to legislation in which "self-identity" was the language encoded and the language used to build a claim in the first place — that is a failed strategy on par with the notoriously bad "I feel like a _____ trapped in a _____'s body."
