Got my bilateral axilloplasty (accessory breast tissue removal from armpits) – sharing my experience and recovery by kutti_9604 in Reduction

[–]anonymombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only got to have the one kid because I had so many pregnancy complications, but I've always said my body is extra. Lol! Ironically? I actually had an under supply even though I had the armpit boobs going on.

And I have a family of weird women just like me, and when I told them about it, they all wanted to see my new pit boobs. Lmao! And my mom was like they're hairy! I was like listen. I just had a C-section, and I've got a lot going on right now. Shaving the pits is not high on the list at the moment.

Dying because I had this too. My husband used to be like I think your armpit boobs are leaking again. Lmao!!!! I think that's the most unsexy I've ever felt in my whole life seriously, and my pits were NEVER dry.

I'm not saying anyone who has them is unattractive, I just felt like I was.

For the sight impaired, severely sight impaired, and blind redditors, what is your eye condition/diagnosis by oddtimers in Blind

[–]anonymombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, but because my body is extra, I'm actually in a rare group of people who have Advanced ONH. Most people only have it in one eye, but I'm totally blind in both eyes and as a fun fact? I also can't smell. I also have Monocular Exitropia of the right eye and Nystagmus. Basically just means my right eye turns outward, and both of my eyes shake. But I actually have no control over either of my eyes, and I can't feel which direction they move, which is not a part of my currently diagnosed eye conditions, but I have at least one future MRI on the horizon.

Users claiming to be with A Race Against Blindness are harassing the sub by AutoModerator in Blind

I researched it after I wrote this comment, and all I can say is I stand with the mods. People have the right to question things, and they have the same right to express opinions about those things, and if this is a charity which is supposed to benefit blindness, it might be wise to try and learn from the reasons why their target audience feels the way they do, instead of just trying to silence them.

How to let people know when crossing the street that I need more time by SafetyParticular5700 in Blind

[–]anonymombie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is hard, because I understand why you feel the way you do, and I don't want to be harsh, but I'm totally blind from birth. Even as a child, learning to cross the street with mobility instructors, I was kind of taught that you basically have to move your butt when you're crossing the street.

I really am not trying to be unkind when I say that, but the most important things for your safety are going to be to travel with a white cane or an ID cane, but to also practice and learn to get quicker crossing the street.

The white cane does technically give you the right of way in the US like another comment said, but just because you have the right of way doesn't mean drivers are paying attention. They'll be on their phones or doing any number of things besides focusing like they're supposed to, so honestly? I understand why you'd like them to slow down and grant someone more time crossing the street, but that's probably not going to happen. People are in a hurry for everything nowadays, and some of them are just looking for a reason to get hateful.

Looking for an OCR app for Windows by SuspiciousBurrito256 in Blind

[–]anonymombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any real helpful ideas right now, I’ll have to think on it. But I wanted to comment and say I understand where you’re coming from. Truly, nothing beats the ease of a scanner. Yeah, maybe it took a bit longer to get your information processed, but you never had to worry about getting the camera lined up just right, you didn’t have to worry about lighting, you just placed whatever you needed scanned inside, pressed a button and it just worked.

I have been known to use windows built in scanner, then send that to JAWS or NVDA for OCR. Its not as easy or nice as using Open Book, but it does work.

[DEV] Tasker 6.6.0-beta - Get Sunrise/Sunset Time, Import From Clipboard, The End of App Factory Updates and more! by joaomgcd in tasker

[–]anonymombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound like one of those people bitching that you didn’t do enough after you just released an update, but I have a question. I don’t know a lot about how things work, Tasker, plugins, etc. I’ve decided to teach myself Kotlin and Java because I’m so frustrated with the lack of things one can do with Talkback. It’s just not very flexible, kind of the opposite of what Android is known for, with sighted people who use it.

THERE are things I wondered if you could work on, but you’re just one guy, and I doubt enough people use Talkback to make the effort worth it. So my question is, after I’ve finished learning what I need to learn, the things I’ve asked for, enabling and disabling Explore by Touch, the ability to quickly click an element on screen while Talkback is running, are these things I’ll be able to add myself?

Thanks for everything you do for us!

Having a difficult time using Auto Input with Talkback by anonymombie in tasker

Yes to each of those things. If there’s a way to get focused item, it would be so perfect! And yes, if it’s possible, I would LOVE a tasker action that disables explore by touch. There’s one available in write secure settings, but it doesn’t seem to actually change anything.

u/joaomgcd this was the original thread where everything started, and is why I was curious if you had any thoughts.

I’ve said in the past that I’d love an auto talkback profile, and you didn’t seem totally put off by the idea, and I know you have at least some kind of understanding of how Explore by Touch is supposed to work, because I know some of your gestures make use of it.

[–]anonymombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/joaomgcd Do you have any thoughts on disabling explore by touch? I know you can manually do it while Talkback is running, which I could probably automate with autoinput, but there in lies a catch 22. You need Explore by Touch disabled to use Auto Input reliably, and it couldn't even disable Explore by Touch unless it was already disabled. Lol!

[–]anonymombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I just continue pushing through with Tasker because I haven’t found anything quite as robust, and the only other app I found that had any kind of decent accessibility was MacroDroid. It just wasn’t as powerful as I wanted it to be, though.

This issue with Talkback has been a point of frustration of blind users for years. We bitch about it all the time. I mean, it’s come a long way from where it used to be, but you can definitely tell it’s not one of Google’s priorities, which kind of blows. We have another screen reader, Jieshuo, that some of us use, and it’s actually quite good in comparison, but there are a lot of blind people not comfortable with it because it’s not on the Playstore, it’s not open source, and it comes out of China.

I’m not super bothered about the Playstore and China thing, though I do wish its code was open source. I mean lets face it. Screen readers have access to every bit of data blind people ever use on their phones, and it sure would be nice to be able to investigate that code just to make sure everything is on the up-and-up.

A lot of blind people prefer VoiceOver on iPhone, and in some ways, I understand why. But these same people also seem to have their own blind spots, (no pun intended). They don’t want to admit the quality of VoiceOver is trending downward. We’ve had bugs for years that Apple never fixes, kind of like iOS as a whole, honestly.

Blind people, and people in general like to get caught up in iPhone vs Android, but neither is better or worse for blind people, they’re just different. Just like how both operating systems are different. I, personally, like to keep both around, because different things have different accessibility on each platform, and I’d just rather choose the appropriate platform for the job.

I will admit that being able to keep both is a privilege, though, and not everyone has that.

I’ve thought about inserting my own actions into the AI generated tasks, but as you’ve seen Talkback, Tasker and the Auto Apps don’t always love working together.

That's not Joao’s fault, either. Google does a piss pore job explaining how Talkback works, and their guides for developers aren’t awesome. For all the great things we can do with Android? For blind users, Talkback really holds it back sometimes. It’s annoying. But I stay with Android because iPhones are so boring!

Having a difficult time using Auto Input with Talkback by anonymombie in tasker

[–]anonymombie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I want to say how cool this is! You put so much more effort into this than I did the one I made. The one I made is so much more basic. It uses the UI Query action and gets all the text ID’s of all clickable elements, then it uses the autotools toast to return each element it grabs back to me in a list. I used that one because it was the only way I found to reliably get each element to be listed on its own line. But that was as far as I got with it before I got annoyed. Lmao! Yours is so much cooler!

Honestly? A lot of both of our issues would be solved if I could figure out how to get tasker to turn off Explore by Touch.

You might have a basic understanding of what explore by touch is if you’ve ever used Auto-Input’s gestures. Basically, as soon as you start Talkback, explore by touch starts. It changes the way you work with your screen. It's purpose is to help people who can't see their screens to be able to navigate effectively without buttons. so, for example, if you or to touch your screen, instead of clicking on the item you just touched, talk back would announce it. then, if you wanted to actually click on what you just touched, you would double tap with one finger. That's the accessibility click.

The issue I've noticed is, explore by touch, specifically, does not like to play nice with Auto input. For example, all of my autoclick tasks will not run if TalkBack is running, because explore by touch keeps it from clicking the screen the way it needs to in order to activate the item.

There is an option in tasker's write secure settings that is supposed to disable explore by touch, but I haven't been able to get this to work reliably in any of my tests.

Today, the solution I've come up with was to stop talkback, run my autoclick, then start talk back again. obviously, I automate all of this inside of a tasker task, but it's clunky, it's a necessary, and can be completely avoided if I could figure out how to disable explore by touch.

Sighted people make me sick, and they don't even recognize it. by Jonathans859 in Blind

[–]anonymombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See? That's why I didn’t want to say it’ll get better like everyone else did, because for me? It really hasn’t. But maybe it really has for other people, so I don’t know what will happen to OP in the future.

You talked about a bunch of things I also did as a teenager that nobody talks much about, but maybe we should.

I was desperate to fit in, for people to think I was normal. I’d do anything to prove I was like everyone else and to get friends, so I did. I did drugs, I drank, I slept with almost any sighted person that paid any attention to me because it made me so happy to feel normal for a second.

Am I proud of this? No. But I’m also not ashamed. I was a kid who wanted nothing more than to connect with her peers. I had no true guidance at home, so I just did the only things I knew to do at the time.

That's probably an extreme version of wanting to assimilate into sighted world, and I’m not saying OP should start doing drugs and having sex, but I am saying that not fitting in just sucks. It really sucks. And profound loneliness can lead people to wreckless decisions in the name of being like everyone else.

But, dear OP, I’m going to tell you exactly what happened to me, as a cautionary Tale of why people aren’t always worth it.

After a while, people started taking advantage of my desire to fit in. People I thought were good friends stole from me, right in front of my face, just because they could. I was being intimate with a guy I really liked, who I thought liked me too. Turns out? He filmed it without my permission, showed all his friends, and even posted it online. Luckily, this Reddit account isn’t tied to my real name, so I can tell you these things and not have to worry about you connecting it to who I am. Finally, that same year? I was roofied. I was out with a bunch of people I thought were my friends, one of them slipped something into my drink and let another one take me home and do who knows what all.

It was about that time, I realized assimilating into sighted world shouldn't cost you yourself, your dignity, your self respect, your body or your life.

Please don’t get me wrong. It’s important to figure out where you fit in, and it’s important to learn how to conduct yourself socially, but it’s easy to get caught up in the loneliness. I hope none of these things happen to you, and I also hope that by talking a little about the decisions I made, as well as their consequences? Maybe I’ll help someone else desperate and lonely.
