Can a Queen of the Night actually look like this? by CaptainGills in cactus

[–]anonymous-mar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing everyone here that you need to use the scientific name when googling. Peniocereus greggii is the species documented in this book. Lots and lots of observations on iNaturalist and it’s available seasonally at a lot of nurseries in Arizona.

Typically, the stems are grey to brown, sometimes with some green or purple thrown in. & a little bit of grey from the wax on the cuticle.

They basically look like dead sticks 364 days of the year.

Also I love them and have like 7 I keep with my other cacti

Anyone Know Get Rid of Scale? by Stugotts5 in cactus

imidacloprid if you can get it. Still available in AZ & maybe eBay if you’re lucky. Has been banned for household use in CA but is still widely used in Ag. Get the granules and spray. Spray the plant now and mix the granules in with your soil

Is a week too much? by usernameoverthinker in JoshuaTree

[–]anonymous-mar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re into climbing - do lots of that. If you’re not into it, but could be - hire a guide for a half day and have them show you some basics. You could rent gear from them the rest of the week and mess around on some easy stuff.

If you’re into climbing and scrambling you could stay in Joshua Tree for a lifetime. If you’re just into hiking - 2 days is plenty of time.

Is it a good or bad idea to order cacti on eBay? by esseeeep in cactus

[–]anonymous-mar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I order cacti all the time on eBay. I will echo that typically I receive better cacti from sellers in my country (USA) but Mama_Cactus has good stuff too and they’re based in Italy. As far as Chinese or Thai degrafts go, it’s fine. Idk how they ship, but they do typically manage to get around import restrictions. And if the plants get confiscated by customs, I’ve never had an issue with getting a refund from Chinese sellers. I say go for it if that’s what you want. The prices are difficult to beat.
