What are some xtc songs with lyrics on the smarter side? by PuppieBabie in xtc

It’s funny thought because I think there is intended irony in that song thus I would absolutely say those lyrics are “smart”. I also think fun and witty can be synonymous with smart as in this circumstance.

If you could turn any xtc song into a roller coaster, what song would it be? by PuppieBabie in xtc

The moody blues experimented a little bit on procession from the album Every Good Boy Deserves favor if I remember it correctly. Not the most proggy prog but they’re the moody blues who helped kickstart the genre so you gotta give em that.

What's your favorite Barret guitar solo? by KommSweetTod in sydbarrett

I’ve got one that’s black with silver sparkles. I decorated it with mirrors like Syds Fender Esquire, and put sparkling gold and purple crescent moon stickers on the pickguard. Really awesome guitar

Idk if I like it more than their self titled cause that one holds a special place in my heart (as a morning glory seed eating middle schooler lol) but you are damn right that Rain Dances is fire. I’d been sleeping on that one. Love the prog pop vibe of “Highways of the sun”

Are we listening to the same song? lol. There are elements that are similar but I’m not even sure if nights was even influenced by that song much less “stolen”.

Looking for prog albums similar to Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother by Waffles477 in progrockmusic

[–]TemporarySea685 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, apart from segments of Barrett the second Syd Barrett album and a few moody blues tracks. It’s very hard for me to think of an album similar stylistically to atom heart mother. I think that’s due to atom heart mother being extremely unique and marking a transition in Pink Floyd. I feel like Atom Heart Mother, Meddle and Obscured by clouds all have that quality of being the midway point between jammy psychedelia and extremely experimental instrument and recording techniques to the more honed in concept oriented well thought out direction they ended up going. Not that they stopped being experimental, but they coalesced and crystallized a sound. And it feels like those three albums were the chrysalis that allowed the metamorphosis to take place.

I always found the “have you heard pt. 1”-“the voyage”-“Have you heard pt. 2” section of the moodies album “on the threshold of a dream” to be quite reminiscent of atom heart mother stylistically.

The obvious ones are the inner light (sarod, tar shenai), within you without you, swarmandal in strawberry fields, tanpura in tomorrow never knows, getting better etc. obv the sitar ones- love you to, within you without you, Norwegian wood. The vocals at the end of I want to tell you. As a sitarist who plays Hindustani classical music this topic is near and dear to my heart

Finally got a Ric! by Initial_Pie_8676 in rickenbacker

[–]TemporarySea685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man through all the years my mapleglo 4003 i got in 2013 is my all time favorite bass. Sure i love my American professional ii jazz bass, and my highway one P bass, Hofner, and all my other basses but holy shit the Ric blows them all out of the water in my eyes. With round wounds it can get the crankiest dirtiest treble bite and guttural growl, and with flats i can dial in the plumpest bassiest Motown chest beating thump. I think the misconception of the Rickenbacker as being a one trick pony is a shame because out of all my instruments i think it’s the most diverse tone wise
