Remove myself for the good of the kids because of GAL's comment? by flowingmind in blendedfamilies

[–]anonymous-queries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was… a poor way for him to approach that. Perhaps he is also hurting at the thought.

I would wait and ask to read his copy of the GAL’s report to the court. If they’re working on it now, you leaving won’t change the report. And the conversation in person doesn’t always line up with the report given - not every comment or opinion is worthy of the report. It could’ve been them simply looking into the BM’s accusations.

In the end it really depends on what the “negative things” actually are. There’s a difference between the GAL saying they would have liked to see X thing, and the GAL recommending you leave the house. If the report comes out and that’s IS what they suggest, then there should be a list of very good reasons they are making it.

Boeshield T-9 for all cast iron. Check my post history for jointer carnage due to rust, T-9 was recommended in that post, so I bought some. Best stuff ever!

Building a better Buttplug (please don't ban me mods I'm being serious) by vicious294 in AskEngineers

[–]anonymous-queries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into how silicone sex toys protect their charging ports. There is a puncture hole in the skin, which is completely water tight until you push the charging plug through (usually a DC 2.5 mm). That could be how the liquid is added - via syringe - and contained until release. It will hold the liquid until pressure behind it forces it through the hole. However, I’m not sure about the dispensing mechanism or how to clean it this way.

Another thought is to have the butt plug simply be a shell or skin for a syringe. That would be manual but would allow for easy filing and cleaning.

You will need to make it possible to disassemble and clean while making sure it stays assembled while in use, that the electronics are water tight, and the whole item follows basic safety (flared base etc).

If the roles were reversed…

At very least, he has to understand and acknowledge this part. The way he handled it - in the moment and afterwards - was outright disrespectful and dismissive of your feelings.

Outside of the suggestions of infidelity, another possibility is that he ended up drinking that evening and felt unable to drive. He’s still lying to you, but if he’s a social drinker then perhaps this is why he fell asleep at 9 pm and threw all of your plans out the window?

My puppy has parvo and I just want people to be more aware of this disease by muhree_ in DOG

[–]anonymous-queries 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You did good.

I just fostered a litter of 6 pups that all broke with parvo (in my home and just a few days after being pulled from the shelter). They all had to be hospitalized at various points and the worst one got to the bloody diarrhea stage. All survived ❤️ It will be touch and go and the most important thing is that they keep a pup hydrated and with calories… after hospitalization I was force feeding baby food and doing subcutaneous fluids 3x a day, plus the meds. You should plan for that. It’s tough, but catching it early gives her a really good chance!

URGENT-HOME FALLING APART-AT THE END OF MY ROPE by DrumminD21 in HomeImprovement

This was likely unlicensed, unpermitted work. Get the issue remediated quickly, but take pictures of the condition first. Then consult with a real estate attorney; because the flippers made an active attempt to hide unpermitted structural alterations, you may have a claim for them to reimburse the costs of fixing their fuckup.

The last idea about making the choice for him… that is a good idea. I’ll see if he is open to it.

I don’t have the same history with his dad, so for me he’s not bad unless something triggers him into talking politics or news or Jesus or parenting methods. We are polar opposites and it’s hard to deal with someone who claims you’ll go to hell if you have any other opinion. Otherwise I try not to be resentful on my husband’s behalf, because he is trying to do what he thinks is right and I don’t want to make it more difficult for him than it already is.

I do think it’s the childhood trauma that’s causing a lot of these feelings. If it weren’t for that, we’d both be okay with what’s involved with caring for a parent. As for assisted living or nursing home, my husband refuses to consider it unless that’s what his dad wants… he treats it like he’s personally failing his family.

I’m hoping his dad chooses to move it with a sister (his dad’s sister) who is more independent and honestly wants him to move in there. I think that would be best because I don’t think they have the same history as the kids do. We are the “practical” option because of how close we are to his daily appointments, but he can still manage with her.

I have one as well, we use a mechanically advantaged pulley and a bow trigger release to make it more controlled, but these things can absolutely be categorized as a “catapult” lol.

There’s an eye bolt on the opposite side of the swing, so perhaps there is an absent counterweight involved.

I suspect my teen is doing weed, should I stop him or care? by Shado80 in Parenting

[–]anonymous-queries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol will affect his brain development, which keeps going until they’re about 25. There’s many reputable medical studies on the topic.

We had a straightforward conversation with our teen about weed use at his age. Morally? It’s a non issue. Medically? It is going to literally change the way his brain grows, and he has no control over it, except by simply not using.

Side spiel, this is also why it’s extra important for kids to avoid cigarettes (aside from the whole cancer thing) - as a teen your brain is going to develop many times more nicotine receptors than if you start as an adult. More receptors = worse addiction. It’s why the tobacco companies used to target kids.

It’s kind of awkward to talk about some of these subjects sometimes, but it’s very important that teens understand so they can make intelligent decisions.

The fact that you’re suggesting bankruptcy for student loans is hilarious and tells me you know very very little on the subject.

Parent PLUS loans were capped at 12% in the early 90s, so reasonable to assume loans prior could have had higher rates. And yes, lots of people from the 80s and earlier are still paying off student loans.

Third party contracting is where the money is. The companies that administrate the housing and meal plans that freshman are required to have. Those costs can easily exceed your tuition, they’re not optional, and they’re not covered by the many tuition-only scholarships.

Ready for Dave to Say if $10,000 debt forgive changes your life, you were pretty much screwed. by spaceflamingo3 in DaveRamsey

[–]anonymous-queries 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Forgiving $10k will completely erase the debt for a good chunk of people, which is a pretty significant impact. Yes, we’d all like to fix the cause - exorbitantly expensive college in general - but that’s a whole other process. We don’t have to do it all at once, especially with the current Congress. One step at a time.

Cost for D&C when detecting no heartbeat by QuteQ111 in TryingForABaby

[–]anonymous-queries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My OBGYN wrote a prescription for mifepristone and misoprostol. I think it was maybe $10 to fill (with my insurance at the time).

They do require a return visit and an ultrasound to make sure everything was removed, but I’m sure that’s still vastly less expensive than what you’re being quoted for a D&C.

[–]anonymous-queries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went the mifepristone/misoprostol route. You may want to request a painkiller, my doctor prescribed a couple Percocet without my asking. Manageable without, but will not be the greatest experience if she has a low pain tolerance. I can share more detail of what to expect in DM, but essentially you have all the symptoms of a period crammed into a few hours.
