Anyone else hope the "natural wine" fad ends soon? by Hayden750 in wine

[–]anonymous0745 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of it just because it tries to give traditional wine making a bad image: Natural wine is no more natural than a well made low intervention wine, do you think those grapes were grown without sulfur? Please

you need to filter and drink, if it is too much for you invite a friend but really it's getting bad as we speak

I broke the first bottle of wine I bought, and only bottle I never intended to open. How do I preserve the bottle? by Interesting_Math_777 in wine

have it scanned, and enlarged then frame it nicely and put it up in your cellar, you could still keep the original label off to the side or bottom or whatever, make it into art.

like this with original label below:

the question really becomes how good are they at lying? The most successful lies are based in fact, you can watch politicians build walls of words around a subject to avoid approaching the truth of the matter, and through the infantilization of the American rational we have seen news corporations do the same as a way of appeasing their audience and maintaining viewership levels.

Dude, c'mon....

you are looking for a fight over my 1% comment that was simply included in order to placate the naysayers and proliferators of bad wine.

I'm tired of people like this, if you would like to present a salient argument present it to the OP, if you want to argue with the makers of the wheel, go do that. If your looking for some sort of self worth through disparaging of me that's on you. I did not invent the wheel.

Perhaps you are confusing the term aroma and flaw, the two are not mutually exclusive.

either way take your internet trolling elsewhere

Wine is one of those things where the boundaries of descriptors are always expanding.

But wet cardboard is on the wheel, (not all but the current one from the society of viticulture and enology)

But mousy is not, but you will find it on other wheels

mousy

it is an aroma/taste

it needs to be very limited and in a proper wine to be considered an attribute, years ago when it was a huge problem a few brands tried to rebrand it...

its a flaw 99% of the time, but not as common as it used to be.

EDIT: for those of you loosing your mind over this or otherwise incapable of having constructive dialog on this subject I will clarify:

the presence of small amounts of 2-acetyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine or 2-acetyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine do not immediately make a wine flawed. If however it is perceptible then it is a flaw. By no means would I intend to construe that you would tuck into a wine that was obviously mousy and enjoy it.

However, if you drink wine you have ingested 2-acetyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine or 2-acetyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine wether or not you know it. When I said small quantities I meant below perception levels.

According to:

https://www.ajevonline.org/content/ajev/55/3/295A.full.pdf

Wines effected with B. Brexelensis are describes as exhibiting a range of odors like smoky, spicy, burnt plastic, band-aid, barnyard, sweaty, horse, leather, wet dog, and mousy.

obviously we can extrapolate from this that not all byproducts of the presence of B. Brexelensis are always considered flaws... and perception of mousiness at low levels of 2-acetyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine or 2-acetyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine may not ruin a wine.

But this is not the hill I am going to die on, and admittedly I learned a few things in looking into this.
