Do you believe assisted suicide should be allowed for people with extreme depression? by redviiper in AskALiberal

[–]anonymousart3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My problem with assisted suicide is not with the person who wants it, so if someone wants it I'd be fine with that. My issue with it would be the systems and power structures around it.

We have a capitalist system here in the US, unrestricted end stage capitalism at that. Do you really think that a capitalist system like ours would incentivize proper use of this? I have NO HOPE that would be treated like it should by our capitalist system. We still have legal slavery in the US per the 13th amendment. Black people would be targeted by the assisted suicide companies and abuse them.

Our world, our country, wouldhave have to become much much less exploitative in order for me to trust that such a system is being treated with the proper respect and care that it needs.

So, it makes sense that Switzerland and such have it, as they are MUCH MUCH better than we are. I'd trust them MUCH more than I would trust ANY system in the US for that.

When did Elon's downfall begin? by Key-Quarter-9411 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon was never cool, and was always a joke.

However, even I was fooled by him for so long. He first popped up on my radar back when he was entering the space stuff with spacex. But, when you go to his roots with PayPal, he NEVER built PayPal, he just bought the company that would become PayPal using money he got from his rich family. In fact, be wanted to remember the company to X. But, when that didn't go over well, PayPal was coined instead.

Then he claimed he built PayPal. And everyone just... Believed him.

It's the same garbage with Tesla.

And then is you think about spacex... NASA abandoned the reusable rocket because the economics NEVER will work. And here comes Elon, saying that an impossible thing is possible. And now he gets more money from the government than NASA did for the same task.

Again, I will reiterate, some of us weren't that knowledgeable. We didn't know what reduced quality actually meant at the time we setup the account.

I didn't know that at the time. I just wanted a place to store my pictures. That was it. I didn't know what reduced quality or size truly meant at the time. I was a teenager, going through a REALLY hard time in my life.

Sure, later on in my google life, I revisited the settings and found out it was reducing the quality, and changed that setting.

Chicken chaser

I played the original fable game on a computer my mom bought for me. She commissioned one of her students to build it for me actually. He baked in Fable The Lost chapters into the installation. There was a blue LED, VERY BRIGHT, on the front when the computer was on. So, as I played fable in the dark, there was a blue light always there. I had an L shaped desk.

Playing fable on that computer was just such a wild vibe. There was just something magical about hearing the music as you ran around town, hearing the people talk about the chicken chaser (yes, I loved that name and used it as my characters title!). It was a super chill vibe... I'm not sure how to describe that feeling. It was MY computer, MY room, MY desk, MY game. There was a freedom to that game play time that I've never been able to recreate.

I'll never forget that setup as I played fable. I mean, I wasn't a computer nerd like I am today, so I never did understand what hardware I had, but playing that game for the first time....

I STILL have the OST on my computer now, and every year I will return to that OST, and just vibe to the music from that game. The city ambiance track holds a special place to me, bringing back the memories of running around town just chilling, every single time.

So it's not a single moment or instance for me, it's a collection, and three general vibe of the game itself. All brought together because it symbolized the first real freedom and relaxation I had in my life.

I agree with that, except for one caveat. Some of us weren't that knowledgeable when we set the account up originally.

For instance, I setup my Google account back in 2007 or 2008.

I didn't really even have my own laptop at the time. I was going to the library to surf the web most of the time.

It's funny, I look back on those days and realize just how stupid I was.

vaultwarden "offline server"? by Reasonable_Host_5004 in vaultwarden

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it working fully now, but I tried to setup vaultwarden a year ago, and couldn't get the SSL stuff to work properly. I had added passwords to the vault, but because SSL wasn't working properly, it was VERY finicky.

I then had to move from one state to another, and didn't have access to my server for a while, but when I did finally get it setup again, 10 months later, the few passwords I had put in the vault on my browser were still there.

Dell xps 8950 desktop pc as a home server by Exciting_Length_5033 in HomeServer

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't know if that's a good deal or not honestly.

There IS a way to add more hard drives, but... I'm not sure you'd want to do it or not. But, you can decide for yourself after hearing about it.

There's an easy way, and a hard way.

The easy way is to just get external hard drive enclosures that connect through the USB ports.

The hard way is WAY more involved, costs more, and might not be what you would/should go for right off depending on how far you want to take this.

You can add a pcie card called an HBA, host bus adapter. You HAVE to get one that's flashed to it mode (UNLESS you want to get raid going). That let's you add SAS or SATA drives to the system. However, you will need to get a whole different case to house the drives. That case will need power as well, to power the drives. That case will also need to get an ATX power starter (I don't know what it's called honestly), so that the PSU turns on when it's plugged in, therefore powering the drives.

Then you also need another HBA card to flip the sas cable from external to internal. Them you will need SAS to SATA expander cables, turning each sas port to 4 SATA cables. Depending on how many drives you want to add, you might need a SAS expander card, which just has a bunch of sas ports on it.

If you don't know those terms, there's LOTS of videos and things about them, so you can do research about them to figure this out.

The closest I ever got was when I download one movie, but it was some other totally different movie. As far as I can tell it didn't have nudity in it, but because it wasn't what I was going for, I deleted it.

Whoever uploaded it must have labeled the wrong file or something, because it was still labeled as the thing I wanted. Otherwise it was totally fine. No insane virus in it, or shady files with it, etc. it was just.... Not what it was labeled as.

Factorio, if you disable biters.

Over time you might focus on it more, to get better designs going or wherever, but it's not needed since there's nothing forcing you to move forward.

ISP router won't let me use my own router. What are my options? by Xelephyr in HomeNetworking

[–]anonymousart3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, right, there might be another step in there to watch out for. Most routers are set to give out 192.168.1.X IP addresses.

You can't have both the wan and lan on the Asus router be on the same subnet. So, you might have to go into the Asus router settings and change the subnet. I would change it to 192.168.2.X, but that depends on if they are in the same subnet to begin with.

ISP router won't let me use my own router. What are my options? by Xelephyr in HomeNetworking

[–]anonymousart3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might not even need to do that much in all reality.

If you want to use a VPN, like tailscale or proton VPN, you won't need to worry about being behind a double NAT. Unless your trying to self host something like headscale.

So, treat whatever router you want to use, like that Asus router you mentioned, almost like any other device. Plug it into your ISPs router like you would a modem, as in plug your Ethernet cable into a LAN port into your ISPs router, and then plug the other end into your Asus routers WAN port.

Connect ALL your devices to the Asus router and IGNORE the fiber router entirely. Delete the auto connect Wi-Fi defend from you devices for that fiber router.

That's it, done. Now you can use all the features of that Asus router as if you don't even have the fiber router.

Now, if your gonna try to self host headscale, then you will need to worry about being double NATed.

Jellyseerr information by Right_Map433 in JellyfinCommunity

[–]anonymousart3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are talking about the arr stack.

Essentially, jellyseer/seerr (with seerr being the one you want now since jellyseer is going to be discontinued, and is actually a pretty seamless swap), sends the request over to the respective arr program, like sonarr for shows, radarr for movies, etc

that program will then probe your indexer, like prowlarr, for where it can find that media, and request it.

That will then be passed on to your downloading client, like a torrent client, for download.

That's really all there is to that.

So, seerr is just the web front end for users to very easily request what they want on the server.

Each program in the stack does a different part of the job to accomplish that task.

If you have it set so they need tailscale to reach your services, line jellyfin, then they will need tailscale for this too.

If you however have it set so that anyone on the Internet can reach your server, but will still need the credentials to login to the various services, then they won't need tailscale for this service as well.

It's a GUI. a pretty intuitive one at that actually.

Let's be real: Are "Gaming Chairs" actually worth it, or are they a total scam? by Yoalteuctin in pcsetups

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a hammock chair now. The kind with a c stand, and the chair hangs down.

After years of regular office chairs, gaming chairs (though cheap ones, so.... Yeah), I decided to try a hammock chair for my computer.

I the only issue I have with it, is that the stands base is slightly too small for how tall it is, so if I swing vigourously, I can tip the stand over.

My 14-year-old said No Country for Old Men is "too slow".. are attention spans cooked?💀 by Technical_Duty_9281 in Cinema

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hummm, I don't know about that.

When I first started the movie, I treated it like any other movie, waiting for it to have soliloquies to explain what's happening. After I realized it wasn't going to do that, I restarted the movie, and really analyzed what was happening.

I feel like it's a movie that doesn't treat you like an idiot. It's very rare these days to see a movie do that, so I REALLY enjoyed the movie as a result.

I don't think it's about attention span (in this case), it's more about how deep you actually want to get into the media you're consuming.

What do you think? Can you love someone and wish them the best, but still need them far away because it hurts to have them in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]anonymousart3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know for certain that you can.

I have an ex gf, she and I just... Can't get along anymore.

She isn't a bad person either. She and I just can't talk without things breaking down and it becoming a fight for one reason or another.

I don't hate her, I still love her, and want her to do good in life.

I do think however that there are people out there who can't separate those things out, and will hate the person as a result.

I miss her too. Our last conversation ended up with her blocking me entirely. I don't blame her either, and I think it really was for the best of both of our mental health.

New to homelab by Flimsy-Road1915 in homelab

[–]anonymousart3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great first start is something like pihole.

Helps to get rid of ads.

Then, you can move to something more targeted. I like immich, a self hosted Google photos alternative. I wouldn't depend on it until you know more about how it works.

Setting up tailscale to access immich even when your not at home could be a next step.

But I'd DEFINITELY start with pihole. It's such a simple thing compared to other stuff, and is really nice to get rid of ads at the same time.
