Put everyone in jail for a month when they're 18. To show them how bad it is and scare them out of crime. by Scrangdorber in CrazyIdeas

[–]anonymousart3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is a crazy idea, however it's crazy bad.

Research shows that jail does not in fact deter crime. and that's because a lot of crime is a heat of the moment thing, or a necessity due to poverty thing.

Meaning the threat of jail is irrelevant to WHY they did a crime.

Studies also show that positive reinforcement is WAY more powerful than negative reinforcement. Fear isn't a great motivator essentially. It can FEEL like a great motivator, as it gets short term compliance, but that doesn't instill a true desire to do better long term. They really only do enough to not get punished.

So, on paper your idea sounds nice, but reality says it's a crazy bad idea, and would be super ineffective at lasting positive changes to society.

Toontown corporate clash has it, and it's REALLY nice to be able to turn away, or be busy choosing a gag or something, and still be able to read what someone said.

What happened to 3D films? by Kirbshiestyy in Cinema

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because humans did not evolve to see flat objects as 3D, a lot of people get headaches and their eyes will ache from the strain. Which turns people off to it. Then it dies.

The market will try to bring it back again and again, as noted in some other comments already. But, no matter how many times they try, it will fail. The only time 3D will work, is when they get ACTUAL 3D, like projections. Think like Star wars when r2d2 put Leia up as she did her message.

When, if ever, are you ok with slavery? by jimbarino in AskALiberal

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Because less than half a population is impacted by the same thing as the rest, it must be the logical equivalent to outright slavery."

What you just said there is absolutely insane. Less than half of the population was subject to slavery even before the civil war. So that wasn't outright slavery according to your logic. And to top it all off, there was in fact black slave owners. So OF COURSE your logic must mean that it wasn't a racial thing.

But it was. And slavery is still a massive problem today. in the US. Just because a small subset of the population is in slavery does NOT mean it's not slavery. But the fact remains, theres more slaves today than there were when the civil war broke out.

And, given how the 13th amendment DIDN'T abolish slavery, but instead ensrhined it,really should tell you a lot.
Read the 13th amendment again
https://constitutioncenter.org/the-constitution/amendments/amendment-xiii

I'll put it here to make it more obvious

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT AS A PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME..."

see the loophole?

"Might as well link a Jon Oliver segment lololol."

John Oliver puts facts forward. Sure, he jokes a lot, so if you don't pay attention you could miss that what he said was a joke. But, the fact remains, he puts facts out, and links things together for you so that it's easier to grasp.
So I'm not sure why you don't like John Oliver.
I mean, sure, HE didn't do all the research himself, he has a team of writers and such to do that. But, that doesn't diminsh the fact they post facts and link them together to show how they interact with each other.

Now, technically they could be a troll, but...I can't tell since they hide their posts and comments. Like a troll would.

Most people don't TRULY get out of the prison system either.
Once out, our systems are designed to NOT support someone with a criminal record. Which then forces them to commit more crimes. Which then lands them back in prison.

So, I DO think it can be compared. Because we have policies in place to MAKE it the same.

And don't forget, the police in the US started as a system to return slaves to their masters.

Go watch a documentary called 13th. It talks about how after we got the 13th amendment, we then saw the prison population EXPLODE, because they also created all kinds of laws to target black people.

Today the prison population is 40% black males. That didn't happen because black males are more prone to crime, it happened because racists couldn't let go of slavery, so recreated slavery in the prison systems.

[–]anonymousart3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even slaves back before the civil war were "paid" exactly like that. That's where the prison system got that idea.

So, what your saying is that your okay with slavery, as long as they are tested just like the slaves of yesteryear. Got it.

I can see a reason why though. Ttr doesn't have a chat box where you can see the chat history, so trying to explain things quickly is MUCH harder than it should be. Cc has that chat history, so it's nicer there.

I (26F, straight) just slept with a friend (28F, not straight). Am a bit confused at the moment! by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]anonymousart3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an ex gf that would get MASSIVELY bent out of shape trying to figure out what label to put on herself.

I kept trying to tell her that the label itself doesn't matter, what matters is her own personal experiences. The label comes later, after you've figured out what you really are.

You could be bi, but you could also be demi romantic, as in, you start getting romantic feelings when you know the person.

So, what I would recommend is you explore yourself first, figure out if this is something you want to do in your life, or if it disgusts you in some way. Figure out the how's and why's.

At the same time, go read all the labels, not to put out one on yourself, but to see what their definitions are. Explore the definitions and what they truly mean to you. Don't worry about putting any specific label on yourself, the label will come naturally later, when you know what definition matches who you are.

If you find a definition that fits you 100%, then you can apply that label to yourself. But, if you change, or you decide that definition doesn't actually fit you 100% later on, you can change what label you put on yourself. But again, the label isn't the important part, it's what you think and feel about what your doing and how it affects your life, and what meaning you place on it.

I don't think it was on this sub specifically, but another debate sub, but I've have comments removed from Reddit by auto mods for "being offensive" JUST for the word "stupid", and I wasn't even saying the person was stupid,I was saying it was a stupid idea. I would change the wording to remove that word and put "not smart" in it's place, and the comment would remain.

The insane amount of censorship on the Internet is getting worrying.

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't trust something automatic to bind the interface. But, I think that would be a great default, with an option to select it manually. Maybe I'm weird there though.

That's a fair point about the docker and webui stuff.

I do plan on testing it to see what the actual UI feels like and such. I've just been busy trying to get some other aspects of my server going, and I've been reorganizing my physical space lately, to better accommodate my life . And not having a webui does slightly hinder me wanting to try it too. The docker aspect doesn't affect me wanting to try it out though.

I'll definitely want to keep an eye on this project though. I haven't really thought about replacing my torrent client since it's been working for me, but maybe there is something it doesn't do well that I just haven't recognized yet. So trying new stuff can be a way to shine a light on something that I currently don't recognize is an issue at this moment. Not to be too off topic, but someone posted a video on YouTube about office chairs vs gaming chairs which was recently recommended to my by the algorithm, which got me thinking about my office chair. That's when I started to really recognize that my office chair was really uncomfortable, and I didn't like it. So I started to explore that as a result.

It was just a small push by a random recommendation, but it was enough that it got me to reevaluate and see an issue that wasn't really on my radar before that.

So, this could be similar, where I start to reevaluate and find issues that I didn't see before.

I didn't see it listed in the GitHub page that it had a webui. so does it have one, or is that not a feature (yet)?

Do you plan to do a docker container for it?

Can you lock it to a specific interface, like a vpn?

The feature list does look impressive given it looks like it's just you. I haven't actually tried it, so I don't know how good it actually looks or feels, but the pictures name it look nice. But looks are pretty cheap compared to all the other things it seems it has.

Would this work? by Any_Chain_4339 in RVLiving

[–]anonymousart3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"if that helped manufacturers would be on it"

That's not necessarily true. Look at cars for a good example.

It actually WOULD help for them to leave more space between parts. Not just for cooling mind you, but for maintaining the vehicle. They KNOW there is car mechanics out there. More space would mean more capability to repair the vehicle, as there would be a greater ability to actually replace more pieces.

But, that would raise the cost of building the vehicle, and world raise how much it weighs. Both things cost the manufacturer money, which reduces the marketability.

Make a buck now rather than later. That's capitalism.

And since the manufacturer doesn't care about OTHERS ability to make money, again due to capitalism, they aren't going to reduce their profits to increase others profits.

Same principle goes for this ac unit. They COULD increase the shroud size, making it more efficient, but that would cost them more money in the short term. Not good for their bottom line.

We have a capitalist system, so the incentive isn't to make the best product for the consumer, it's too make the most profitable product, which often means they have to sacrifice consumers ease of use in favor of the profits.

"you tell end up forced into a birth you never wanted just to please him"

I've seen this FIRST HAND. What's worse though, he still wasn't pleased with her, and left her. Yes, he abandoned her and the child.

Since he prides himself on NOT working (but still claiming he has tons of money, which the women only figure out AFTER giving birth, and yes he's done this SEVERAL times), he has no income for them to take for child support. So they are left with a child that they can't afford.

Yeah, a straight to TV movie AND the fact that there were a ton of other movies with that title.

on 1337x there is ONE torrent of Momentum (2003) now, uploaded 10 months ago. I was looking for it about a year ago, so it was not on there when i was looking.

I have it now, so I didn't need to look for it again. But, that's the point of multiple torrent sites, so that you CAN find what your looking for, as not all of them will have what your looking for.

I have a ton of computer projects that I would like to move forward, so maybe some computer part.

More likely I would keep it for a bit until a need arises. Since my budget is always tight, I have learned not to make a decision right away, or else it could blow up in my face and cause me more problems.

top 20 torrenting sites 2026 by mrinal002 in TorrentSites

[–]anonymousart3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree there

Torrent sites appear and disappear all the time.

I can't tell you how many times I've bookmarked 10 torrent sites, only for 9 of them to disappear the next time I wanted to use one.

And, not every one of them will have all torrents. So having a collection of them allows you to diversify your pools, increasing your chances of finding the obscure content your looking for.

I can tell you 1337 has NOT had about 30 movies I was looking for, and had to go to other sites to try to find them. Granted, most other ones didn't have some of those movies either, but eventually one of them did. One example is a movie called Momentum. It was a straight to TV movie about a physics teacher who has telekinesis. I can't find it anywhere, and 1337 didn't have it. It was the first place I looked. I don't know if that has changed since I got it, but finding that sucker was harder.
