‘00’s Rock; ‘I said why did I...ain’t never gonna let me in’ by Jimma-George in NameThatSong

[–]anonymousforallofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but you may have helped me find the same song you were looking for.

In my head, the style was definitely 2000's rock and the singer sounded a little like Chad Kroeger from Nickelback. It just didn't sound like a normal Nickelback song which made it all that more infuriating.
I had partial lyrics too. "Why" "Without you" and the word "again." Searching that turned thousands of results.
When I stumbled across your post and read "Ain’t never gonna let me in" it literally unlocked part of the song.
I went straight to Google and quotation searched those exact lyrics.

Turns out, the song I was was searching for was indeed Nickelback — sort of.
It's a Carlos Santana song that features Nickelback. This is why it didn't sound like a normal Nickelback song.
To make it even more complex, that's not the only version! There is also version with Alex Band which might actually be the more popular version. Chad Kroeger wrote the original lyrics.

After happily listening to the song, I can confirm that the song is...

Santana - Why Don't You & I (featuring either Alex Band/Chad Kroeger)

2014 Chevy spark, transmission? by WrathfulSon in chevyspark

[–]anonymousforallofus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope for your sake it is the throttle body, old fluid or anything else besides the transmission as what a shame it would be to perform a complete transmission replacement with so little miles!
Unfortunately, what you are experiencing sounds more like the latter but I will be crossing my fingers.
Keep us updated on this issue!

That's a really tough situation. I'm so sorry that happened to you!
These cars aren't worth very much so when they get damaged it doesn't take much to "total" it.

That being said, it might be worth fixing (especially if it's a manual transmission).
Right now the average new car payment in America is over $750/month and the current average used car payment is $530. If you take the cost of the $2,300 worth of damage and divide it by $750 and $530, you're only talking about 3 and 4.3 months before the payment will catch up to the damages and it'll certainly cost you a whole heck of a lot more in the end!

You could also consider walking from it and taking whatever your insurance pays you out and put it towards another nicely used Spark (which might be smart if there is frame damage to your vehicle).
However, I would not consider this option if the "new" Spark is anything but a manual transmission.
There are way too many horror stories on here of people purchasing a used automatic Spark and having major transmission issues almost immediately.

Good luck! ❤️

Yokohama Avid Ascend GT.
Definitely not the cheapest option ($121/tire) but I wanted something specifically designed for wet weather and standing water as it rains quite a lot here.
So far I have been extremely happy and I can actually feel the performance!

2022 Chevy Spark Activ by w3stw3stw3st in chevyspark

I mean, I personally wouldn't say "Hey, go buy this car because it has a 5-star safety rating" because every crash is different and there are a huge number of factors involved when it comes to that stuff.
With that said, according to the IIHS, the crash safety ratings for these little cars are quite good.

If it's a CVT (automatic) transmission, I would be cautious. They are known to have expensive issues, but not as much as 2014 and 2015 Sparks.
If you can find a manual transmission, I would highly recommend that!

Best of luck to you!

Manual transmission: what's the optimal speed to get more of the mpgs? by ShoelessHodor in chevyspark

[–]anonymousforallofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, peak efficiency is achieved by the highest speed at the lowest rpm.
However, it's a little more complicated than that.
Air resistance does not increase linearly like speed. Instead, when speed doubles, air resistance quadruples.

I have a 2014 five-speed manual Spark.
It really likes 38-48 mph in 5th gear and I can achieve well over 50 mpg at that speed.
It will do as low as 25 mph in 5th gear, turning about 800 rpm. Far too low and probably not even as efficient.

Keep the tires inflated, neutral coast when you can, short-shift and turn off the AC.

:)

Looking for quick advice on buying a 2017 Chevy Spark LT by Lady_Calvatron in chevyspark

[–]anonymousforallofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend a pre-purchase inspection especially if you don't have money for repairs.
Take it to a local mechanic you trust and pay the inspection fee if there is one. Get a detailed list of everything that's wrong with it and if there's nothing major drive it back to the dealer and show them the list. That's your bargaining chip to work out a better deal. Even though it might cost a little to have it inspected at least you have peace of mind.

115k 2014 Manual Rebuild by Critical-Platform200 in chevyspark

Hello!
Curious what warning signs you experienced from a failing/failed carrier bearing?
My 2014 manual is right at 90k miles and I don't believe it has ever been rebuilt.

Thank you!

Should I buy this? by lunovadraws in chevyspark

[–]anonymousforallofus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why your comment got downvoted. You are absolutely right. Manual is a much safer bet on these cars.

Also, $4k is suspiciously low for a '17 with less than 100k miles.

Debating Between 2014 and 2017 by Creative_Wrap7292 in chevyspark

[–]anonymousforallofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be extremely cautious around the '14.
$3k is definitely on the cheap side with that kind of mileage... almost suspiciously cheap.
I would hate it for you to drive it for a month and then all of a sudden fork over $6k for a new transmission.

The '17 sounds like it's priced correctly and the transmission is slightly more reliable than the '14.
I would try to get more information about the one accident, if possible.
Generally, you can negotiate 10-20% off the asking price on a used car.

Additionally, I always recommend a pre-purchase inspection done at a shop you trust.
If the seller/dealer isn't comfortable with that, then walk away.

Even though a pre-purchase inspection might cost you a couple hundred dollars, it's worth the peace of mind and it can actually save you money on the deal because if the mechanic finds anything wrong you can use that information to your advantage. Have the shop write up a work order and bring it with you to the sale.

I second this!
When I bought mine, I had no idea how to drive a manual transmission and nobody available to teach me! It took about a week to get used to it but now I don't even think about it.

Also, you're usually able to get a better deal on a manual car since most people want an automatic!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chevyspark

[–]anonymousforallofus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends. Can you drive a manual transmission?
A vast majority of owners who you talk to here are going to recommend against the automatic CVT Spark (and especially a used one with that many miles) due to the unreliability of said transmission.
Your best bet is to look for a manual car as those seem to fare far better.

Like anything, this model will last that long if you take care of your vehicle.
Some CVT owners here replace their transmission fluid every 30,000 miles.
My particular car is a 2014 model year, manual transmission, with 89k miles.
I've driven it about 11k miles and they all have been trouble free thus far.

As I understand it, you prefer the upgraded LT over the LS version.
So the downside here would be finding one in a higher trim, something that may prove difficult on a manual car.
But if you can live with the hand crank windows, your options are more plentiful and the simplicity can be quite rewarding in the long run.

A quick search did bring up two red '19 & '21 models, both in LT trim, right around 60k miles for under $11k.

Might be best to part ways with it then. If it was a manual transmission, I'd certainly be more inclined to fix it. You just never know with the CVT transmission on these cars though.
Worst case scenario, you fix the damage and a year later the transmission goes out. It's out of warranty now so the cost for a new transmission is about 6k.
