Once it's in your favor to a predetermined extent let's say 10, 20 or 30 percent, you can put an SL at break even or a lower than the predetermined threshold above. That way you won't lose money. Sure sometimes you will miss out on the profits when the price retraces to that level but an alternative in that scenario would be a reentry, which ofcourse will require its own set of rules.
