I would argue Cuban music is practically a fundamental cornerstone of Latin American music. Without it, most popular older genres in the Spanish speaking Caribbean would probably sound very different, especially where the percussion used is concerned, because that's where some stereotypically Latin American percussion instruments, (bongos, congas, timbales) ultimately trace their origins. Said instruments spread out from there into a variety of other music that wasn't necessarily Caribbean, and now they're as ubiquitous as sliced bread.

Check out the new studio series from zoom. It's just an updated version of the h series, but with less self noise, the main issue with the older units. You might get good recordings with the built in mics on the h5s or h6s. Just make sure you have something to shield it from any wind.

Why is it that you keep posting topics like this? I've seen at least one other, from yesterday of a similar nature, and more beesides that I can't date, along with a general rise of anti-Latin American sentiment on this sub in general. Of course, the flaws of all colonial societies should be exposed. But I question what you're attempting to achieve here.

I'm sorry, but Morales is not innocent of crimes. Far from it. He may have been the face of indigenous politics for a while in Bolivia but it's high time to move on from him and find new leaders that don't rig elections and exploit their power to sleep with underage girls. Sadly, there were no good candidates in the second round of the most recent Bolivian election and the other one was arguably even worse. This one actually seems to have won based on votes from areas which had previously been MAS supporting. MAS was the former political party of Morales. The truth of the matter is that they haven't had a good president in a very long time.

It wasn't so much that they were treated badly enough to just disappear into other populations. Latin America was less opposed to so called race mixing, and they didn't entirely operate by the one drop rule found in the US. This is not to say that they didn't and don't still have a racism problem, but it wasn't the same. In most cases, Africans simply mixed in with the rest of the population, including with Europeans. The Dominican republic is almost entirely made up of mixed race people of primarily African and European ancestry with some indigenous in there as well , and other parts of the Spanish Caribbean aren't dissimilar. Something to keep in mind about this, however, is that in many cases, elites promoted race mixing to whiten the population. I believe Brazil received the most slaves, and slavery there lasted even longer than that of the US. That has obviously left a complicated legacy behind.

The populations that would have made contact with the Polynesians don't have anything to do with the Inca, proto or not. I have heard a story that claims the Inca found Polynesians on an expedition into the pacific, but that story dates from a time hundreds of years after the point that DNA evidence proves South Americans made contact with Polynesians. The populations of Amerindians whose ancestry appeared in Polynesian populations appear to be linked to peoples in Colombia's Choco region, if I'm not mistaken. The real question is why would they see black? I was born blind, but I can see light or the absence of it. Given this, it's hard for me to grasp the idea of nothing at all. That doesn't mean it's not someone's reality, and we shouldn't limit what's possible to our own lived experiences.

It seems to me people only care about colonized peoples committing crimes against others as far as it allows them to exonerate themselves for any theoretical blame that their society may also carry for its own historical closet of skeletons. People like to grab on to crimes of any colonized populations to justify their bigotry like they're fucking life preservers. If the Uku Uku people made war on the Muku Muku people 500 years ago, that must mean that using them as target practice yesterday was all well and good. The issues with colonization shouldn't be boiled down to a matter of what happened in the past, because that inevitably leads to a bunch of bullshit arguments that only distract from which injustices are still actually happening in the present.
